Good evening, everyone. I'd like to call this special meeting of the Board of Supervisors to order today, Thursday, September 3, at 6 PM. It's wonderful to see everyone. We will have our invocation offered by Mr. Jamison, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, Mr. Carter. So if you would all stand, thank you.

Let's pray. Dear Lord, we just come to you with a thankful heart tonight, Lord, and just ask your blessings upon us in this meeting. We just pray that you give us your wisdom, Lord, and your discernment. We pray for those sick, Lord, and just ask you to touch them with their healing hand and be with them. Thank you very much. Okay. Next on the agenda, we are going to hear briefly from our counsel, Mr. Dadak. And so, Mr. Dadak, I'll turn the floor to you, sir.

Thank you, Madam Chair. Just a quick recap of the timeline and steps in this process. On August 20th, 2026, this board held a meeting to discuss the process of filling the vacancy, which under Virginia law, the board has 45 days. On August 21, 2026, the county issued a public notice of vacancy. requested applications for the vacancy, and provided scheduled events. It is the opinion of the county attorney that the Boone District Supervisor's seat is vacant. On August 28, 2026, the circuit court entered the writ of election. In its order, the court noted the vacancy of the seat and ordered a special election to be held in conjunction with the general election on November 2, 2027, to fill the unexpired term of the vacant seat of Supervisor of the Boone District of Franklin County, Virginia. Applications for an interim appointment for the Boone District of Franklin County were due yesterday, September 2, 2026. Today is the announcement of the names of all persons being proposed for interim appointments, and their application materials will become available to the public. I believe next week, September 9, September 10, 2026, the board intends to hold closed session meetings for the purpose of interviews of those applicants. On September 11, 2026, the board intends to hold a special meeting to vote to appoint the interim Boone District Supervisor. These steps and schedule are pursuant to and in compliance with the requirements of the Virginia Code. Thank you, Madam Chair.

Thank you, Mr. Dadak. OK, so we're going to move into the next item on the agenda, which is the reason that we're really here this evening. One of the reasons is to have the formal announcement of the applicants who have applied and have been screened as being appropriate through the screening to run for this seat. So Madam Clerk, if you would list the individuals who have successfully applied and met the screening criteria.

The individuals are Bonnie Law, Don McCrae, Peter Millam, Thad Montgomery, and Lauren Walk. Thank you, Madam Clerk.

Franklin County Board of Supervisors moves to enter into a closed meeting in accordance with 2.2-3711A1 of the Code of Virginia as amended for personnel discussion of appointment to the Franklin County Board of Supervisors Boone District and A8 consultation with legal counsel.
