And then the national night out is going to be Tuesday, October 6th. And the following day is National Coffee with a Cup, which is Wednesday, October 7th. Those are the three PD events that are going to be that we're going to be hosting the next couple of months.

Are you going to have it in the same place?

So usually we do it on Galleon. We didn't do it on Galleon last year because of the construction. I'm crossing my fingers. We are going to be able to to have it again once again on Galleon.

The 4th of July was phenomenal. We had a great turnout. The kids had a blast in the dunk tank and on the water side. We had a new vendor called Traffic Man. Everyone seemed to like burgers and hot dogs. I don't know I haven't talked to you guys in a while we hired a new programming and events coordinator her name is Shanika so next meeting I'll bring her on so you guys can meet her but a big chunk of the event Shanika took over and she did great so we're excited and we're happy to have her on the team along with Christina who is here and you guys have met and what is she taking care of I'm sorry I missed it programming and events programming in the new community center

Um, I don't know if we had an update after the grand opening, the grand opening event was also great. That was the biggest event we've ever done. Um, we had over 30 vendors and over 30 sponsors. So total of like 70 vendors. And it was great. We had like over 700 people in attendance. And even though it was raining, everyone seemed to have a really great time. Besides that, we're really just honed in on opening up the community center and getting everything situated.

Speaking of the community center, that's actually next on the agenda. It's discussion and review of the village community center programming. Do you have that, Lily?

I did not put that on, no.

No, but I love it because I actually just told someone today about the community center and she asked me, what kind of program is there going to be? Because my world is full of yoga and all that. Like I, so many people that I could help bring things in.

Sound healing, yoga, any of that type of stuff. But no, I didn't put it on the end.

Lily, who's handling that? That could be me. Can you give us a little glimpse at least?

Yes, I will give you as much as I can. So we actually don't have anything yet because I'm going to go out to bid for the programming services because I've gotten so much interest, which is fantastic that everyone wants to be so involved in this great project that's coming to the village. So we're going to do an RFP, which is a request for proposals, here soon in the next few weeks. So people will have 30 days to submit a scope of work. And then a committee will ultimately choose the programming that will be at the community center.

Okay. A committee of?

I need I forget I was talking to legal about it. They told me what the exact term was. It's like a selection committee. I can't remember what the exact like name for it is. But it's something along those lines.

But is it of commissioners of residents? Are you making another board? Do you do you know?

No, I don't know yet. I think it would be of residence if I understood right. We got to briefly talk about it for like a minute before the commission meeting.

But more information on that soon. I've been ordering furniture, so we've been assembling furniture.

So are the lines budgeted for that already? The community center?

I have like GLs for the programming that already exists. So yoga in the park, chela fit, I have paddle. And then we have a general line item for programming. How much is it? Rough guesstimate, we put in $100,000.

And that's in the current budget that's being looked at? Yeah. Will the Y be there with the kids?

Yeah. The Y will be doing after school. And the idea is hopefully we can move summer camp into the community center too. It just wasn't this year for them to be.

Yeah. Yeah. Because the community center isn't open yet because we don't have a TCL. Okay. So we're waiting on a TCO. And while that's happening, I've been ordering furniture and we've been assembling furniture and just kind of trying to get all our ducks in a row so we can hopefully open sooner rather than later as soon as we get that.

So do you have like specific categories that you're looking for programming in? I assume so, right? To span between children all the way to seniors.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So in the scope, it says, or the scope that I've been like roughly working on, it has like mommy and me classes and ranges all the way to Tai Chi for seniors.

So adult programming to the more the merrier.

I think you're thinking of Pirate Alley for... I think you're thinking of Pirate's Alley for Anson Family Park.

No, they had said way back that they were going to do that and make it a one-way street in front of the community center. Is that not the way they're going to do? Yeah. They said they were going to change the parking. Cause we were, this was very early on when I first joined, we were saying how we didn't think there'd be a lot of enough parking for the community. And they said they were going to change the street to do, I can't, I don't know what the words are instead of two side parking, but one side and a one way street. So that's not happening. The street's staying the way it is.

Yeah, but we did do that for the park on Pirate's Alley. Um, because we got extra parking behind the community center, um, in that lot, like in front of the fields, they added a ton of extra parking spots. So I'm not sure if I remember them saying that.

So, so for the, the little park, the one on North treasure, you're talking about, they're having diagonal power parking. Lily?

I used to walk my dog in Pirate Alley. The only thing I ever saw back there was trucks for the grocery store.

Yeah, I don't come down that way anymore because our gate doesn't open right on the back. So I haven't been down the alley in a while, but I face that direction.

Why did they pay to put grass on that lot right now?

so that we can open it, um, as soon as possible. What's it going to be? Open another green space for people to go hang out. Yeah, exactly.

Are they putting any benches and tables or anything?

It's in the discussions. I know there's not much money in the budget. Um, But I know they wanted it to get to a usable green space so that people can go out there and just play some soccer or play some football or just go put a blanket down and hang out in the grass. I know we are getting portable toilets out there. But for right now, I think that might be it.

They did a great job. The grass looks great.

Hi, Cleve. This is my neighbor, Cleve, and he has a great idea or potential for programming for the community center. It's a Darley Parton Imagination Library, and I'll let him take it because he has it all worked out.

No pressure. Yeah. Let me turn my camera on. So the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, it's a program Dolly Parton started back in 1995 to help children read. It's kind of a nice touching story why she did it. Oh, perfect. I'll restart it again. Hello. Can everyone hear me now?

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. So the Imagination Library, Dolly Parton started to help everyone, to help children start reading. Her dad didn't read, and then she saw that as a program to get kids excited. It started in Tennessee, her hometown, and then it spread to five countries now. It's in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada. And the fifth country, Australia. So you can see some statistics. The program basically is from zero to five years old. They will send a free book to you a month for the child. So 60 books through the whole program, 12 books a year. And the idea is they partner with local communities, cities, nonprofits to fund this. If you are a local community member, if you're one of their partners, what you help with is like the marketing, the registering, promoting the program. I've been talking with the regional spokesperson for Florida. And what they told me is about two to three hours a week is usually how much it takes. I have done some analysis based on the information they gave me on kind of what the cost would look like. I did that by looking at our current population or for the census of 2024, we have around 373 kids that are under five years old. So they would fit this profile and they have a cost estimator on their side. This is kind of what it looks like for the first five years. to run this program and it scales up as you get more people in the neighborhood registered. I went to 375. So the costs are very good. It's about $2.60 per month per child or $31 a year. Very cost effective. And that scales up if we're doing 375 to about $20,000 over five years, the first year is a thousand and then it scales up from there. I did a little bit more aggressive since this was 2024, we're having a lot of building. If our population of children under five was to grow at like 500, This is kind of what it would scale up to. I can send this all by email afterwards, or I don't know how you guys want information to be sent to you. So the next steps, I guess, is just getting funding, and the city would be our partner. And working with them, they have a whole onboarding process. The reason I thought about this is because when I went to the community to the community event that Lily hosted for the village, the ribbon cutting ceremony. I saw that there was something about like a space for like a book space or reading space. And I thought this would be great to also have as like for planning for event planning, we can do maybe like at the beginning of the month, just like reading the book for each age group. So I thought that would be like a cool thing to even encourage it and encourage people to come to the community and an easy way to also promote the program. I'm happy to answer any questions you guys might have.

So what are the costs of the program then?

$2.60 per child.

So it depends on participation.

Yeah, it's varying depending. And that's just on the books of like mailing the books and just those costs. They handle all the mailing with UPS. All we would have to do is just help them. There's a registration form, just help with that. And promotions like posting it in our website, MPVillage, uh, MPV and so forth.

So from what I understand is the, the child registers and the, the only thing we would have to involve really is the cost. If it's village sponsored.

Yes. Yes.

So there's no cost. It's only per child if the child signed up.

Can kids or parents do on their own? Parents can pay this and join the program?

I don't know if like parents can do it on their own and I'm trying to figure out more on like how the actual payment would work. You know, is it like do we get like a bill at the end of the month or... Is it like charged? Like, I don't know how that works, but the way they, they say is like, you just register for this. And I don't think there is a way to just page yourself. You sign up if it's available in your city.

Yeah. It has to be like city sponsored. You can't like, just not anyone can go on there and sign up. In other words.

Yeah. If you want to sign up, you have to see that there's like, there's like availability in your city. So like we currently don't have availability if you set a check with our zip code. So. I would like to add it.

My concern will be how many people will be interested, how many people will like to sign up.

So the analysis I did was based on the census of current, I guess, 2024 population. We have a population of 373, or we had 373 children. And then per the cost estimator, this is how they base it on like month one, you have 5%, 6%. This is kind of like how it grows. Um, these are just estimates if we, you know, but I think this is like a conservative estimate, how they've seen it grow. Like within the first year, you get about 20% of the population and they see this within five years, you get the full population registered. I see.

Right.

That can vary on how good like our marketing, our promotions are and, but this is kind of what they give us like their cost estimator.

Now, what about the quality of the books? Are they evaluated by some literary standard or?

Yeah. So they have themes and concepts. They, they have a whole team that picks it and it's based on child development. And then here you can see like the breakdown, like for year one, for example, it's like vision, touch, rhyme and rhythm, simple, minimal text. And then this is like the breakdown for all five years. And then, um, They have a whole board of the people that are like partners. They have a committee of like child development experts that pick the books.

Okay. And what happens to the book? What happens to the book once you send it to a child? Obviously, one book a month. At the end of the year, I've got 12 books. What happens to those 12 books? Do I own them at that point? Does the child own them?

Yeah, yeah. There's to own. No return, no nothing. It's the child. And it's like helping build their library.

So the book could be circulated or repurposed as well in the community then, why not?

Right, yes.

Not the idea.

Well, I mean, ideally we would want each child signed up. They have their own personal library. I guess in theory, yes, they could, but I mean, I don't know how much parents are like hanging close together. And if you're reading them at, at night or, you know, when the kid is going to bed, I think they would want their own like personal book at home.

Yeah. And Kleby also mentioned, for example, if there's, um, same age range children in the house, they send different books to each child, right? Yeah.

Yeah. So different age ranges, they send different books because it's based on like the age, um, I had it here. Book themes and concepts is based per age. And then even if they're like the same age, I think they sent different books. And then like, let's say a three-year-old when they were one, they got a certain book for age one. If they have a younger sibling who's now one, that child is not going to get like the book, the same book their older sibling got. They continue changing like the books that they have. The selection. Biggest update is that we have, we shared on our social media pages, but now all residents have access to Miami Beach Pools for free. So that's pretty exciting. We're working on some more partnerships with our neighbors to get access to other amenities and facilities. So hopefully we'll have some more announcements coming in the next couple of months.

I have a question on that green space in Anson Park. How are they going to keep people from letting their dogs poop in there? Good question. Because I had a dog. He died two years ago. And there's not a lot of walking space over here. And there's no dog park. And by the houses, it's not so bad. There's not a lot of poop. Over by the apartments, it's worse. But I just fear people are going to use that park to let their dogs off leash and let their dogs poop all over it.

Susan, I can tell you from the PD side... When I used to walk the road, whenever I would see somebody walking their dog inside the school in the parking lot, I would always let them know that there is a city ordinance that they cannot have their dog on school grounds. It's also if somebody, you know, we're just, we're a small agency, so we can't be everywhere. However, if somebody sees somebody with a dog in there, they can always call us. Um, we have a direct number to our dispatch and we will be dispatched. And, um, you know, it's also about educating. Um, and we would go and we will, we will, you know, let whoever's inside the park know that, um, dogs are not permitted inside the park. But also we need the community to, you know, to help us as well.

I think it would be helpful if there's any money to put up a sign.
