Good evening, all. So I'm here tonight with our latest recruit, Cole Fontana. He's going to be assigned to Station One. Cole's personality, work ethic, and for those who know him, is certainly an asset to the fire department and by extension to the community. So he doesn't need me to speak for him. So he's all yours.

How are you guys doing?

First and foremost, sorry for my voice. I was at a wedding this weekend. I was singing my heart out. Cole Fontana, Ben and Grafton from 2001 I believe now I was a little young so those years a little iffy I live on 72 Carroll Road and there since I was in sixth grade so 2009 went through all years of Grafton middle school high school graduated in 2016 went to Nichols College in 2020 got my bachelor's of business and science and then from there I have been a outstanding substitute for all of ages of grafton public schools my mother was a also a teacher in the middle school um and that is where i am today volunteering for grafton fire as well as a project manager for colludus paint in auburn massachusetts great happy to have you are there any questions or comments from the board

One question. So what motivated you to join the fire department?

So for the past few years I've been really thinking about this and I wanted to make sure that I wanted to do what I set out to do. Not just say I wanted to be a firefighter. Actually do it. So the past few years I've really done a lot of deep diving and judging myself if this is something that I wanted to do and I've come to the conclusion that it is. So I stepped up this year and just throughout the years I've always been a community member of Grafton. All through high school I helped coach football, little league baseball, little league lacrosse, and then as well as being a substitute has been very gratifying in this town and community, as well as the brothership that everybody has in Each and every district, one, two, and three, is something that I've always loved and learned from having two younger brothers to being on different sports teams. And then as well as just learning to solve problems, putting myself out there in those situations that you might start sweating. You're going to get a little confused, but you've got to adapt and overcome those opportunities. And those are the main three reasons why I wanted to join as a Grafton Volunteer Firefighter.

Hi, how are you? Good, how are you? Welcome back. Good, thank you. So I'm Kate DuBois. My sister is Jacqueline. We both started a food truck business called Rolly Cannoli LLC. And we are... looking for approval. We do have a signed commissary agreement with Gerardo's Bakery in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. We plan or hope to be able to operate. We have a couple events scheduled with Holden Farm in Grafton and then a couple more events outside of Grafton. We plan to follow all the Board of Health regulations. Gerardo's has been a huge support in kind of walking us through They've been great. And I kind of gave the speech last week, so I apologize if we're repeating everything we said last week. Gray water disposal will happen at the bakery along with our portable water. And we'll be sourcing all of our ingredients from Gerardo's. We're doing fresh squeezed lemonade and specialty coffee.

Were you thinking about joining the farmer's market at all?

So we would love to. We're trying to, again, this is a new business venture. I'm a property manager for Glickman, Cavago and Jacobs out of Worcester. So running a food truck has been a totally different ballgame from what we're used to. So just kind of navigating all the channels and inspections. We just want to make sure that we have everything down to a science before we start reaching out to book other events. But we would absolutely love that.

One of them is a one-year vacancy. We have Steve Skinner, who is the current member for reappointment, Toby Frost, and then Gretchen Reinhart. Let's start with Toby. Toby, can you hear us?

Yeah, I can hear you guys. Can you guys hear me?

We can. You want to just tell us a little bit about yourself and what drew you to the role?

Yeah. So I moved to Grafton in 2020. So I've been here for almost six full years now. I, I spent a lot of time on trails, whether that's hiking or bike, primarily biking. So spent a lot of times out there kind of seeing pretty much almost all the trails that the town has, some of our largest properties. So yeah, I really like that how much accessibility there is. I just think that, yeah, there's some things that can be done that can really improve accessibility and make it a little bit more welcoming for people that are a little intimidated by that. So that's one of the big reasons I wanted to join the Trails Committee is to help just bring that the friction of kind of entry level people getting used to the trails and just helping connect some so that it makes it a little bit more easy to connect different properties that may be smaller and just expand that because there's a lot of great land and trails already exist. They just need a little bit to put them all together and really make them a really valuable asset for the town. So that's why I am interested in joining.

You want to, same thing, tell us a little bit about yourself and what drew you to the role?

Sure. I've also been here for since 2019. So almost seven years now, I live on a small horse farm in town near the center of town. And one of my, I love our place. But one thing I would love is more trails around us. And so I've always been interested in trying to find more trails, we have neat little loops around, but But kind of like Toby mentioned, it'd be cool if things could be a little bit more connected. And yeah, I'm just passionate about walking on trails. I have two little kids, so I'd love to get more involved in the town. And the trails committee was just kind of, it sounded great to me.

And we also have you now as an applicant for agriculture commission too. You're interested.

Yeah. Yeah. So do you want to talk about that now too?

Sure. May as well.

Yeah. So, again, we have a small farm and we have about eight acres and we've always been interested in maybe doing some kind of farming at some point. It's what drew us to this town. We looked for a year and a half for our house. And we finally when we saw this place, we put an offer immediately. We love we love this town. We love everything about how farm friendly it is. And I'd love to learn more about the agricultural industry. commission and just how maybe economic opportunities for different farms in town and just help preserve Grafton's farming community.

Great. And you're no problem with time commitment for both things? You're on board?

Correct. And if it's helpful, I can do the one year appointment for the Trails Committee because I am applying for two committees, if that's helpful.

Hello, everyone. I'm Sarah Selby Young for Farnham Street in South Grafton. And just before I share my interest in joining this committee, I just just being part I've been in Grafton since 2020, which was actually an election year. And I saw the select board signs not knowing anyone being new to the town. And now six years in, I familiarized myself and I just have really come to appreciate the effort all of you make. um volunteering and uh just it's a lot of energy and effort and i really appreciate that not a lot of people would do that and you take the time and contribute a lot to our town so and that actually segues into why i want to join this committee i absolutely love this town i have two young boys And I want to contribute to making this town a better place. And so when I saw Roger get up at the last select board meeting, also at the town meeting, you know, his passion and just enthusiasm, I just felt like that's someone I want to align with and just is an opportunity for me to learn. And then specifically with the accessibility, I do have some close friends that have different situations. And so I just feel like that their perspective, I can help kind of bring that to the table.

Okay, so Affordable Housing Trust, Sarah is here. We don't need you to speak again because you are reapplying. Is Megan here? Hello. You want to just tell us a little bit about yourself and what has drawn you to the role?

Sure. So my name is Megan. I live at 13 Pullard Road in town. I moved here in 2024. So not nearly as tenured as everybody else who's spoken today. But I moved to the town. knowing no one. I have family who lives close. I grew up relatively close to Grafton, but really took an interest in getting involved in my new community. So I started serving on the Cable Commission around this time last year with Colleen Roy and really enjoyed it. It's a way to get out of my house. I work remotely, so spend a lot of time with me and my cat. Um, so I love opportunities to engage with people in person. Um, I work as an attorney in the real world. Um, so I'm very good with attention to detail, focus, dense things. And I enjoy kind of untangling, figuring out and being thoughtful in what I do with my time, with my energy and by extension in supporting the community that I live in. Um, and I think housing plays a real role in that, like stable housing, affordable housing makes the community better in my opinion. And that is why I would like to serve on the affordable housing trust.

I think it's incredibly admirable that, you know, knowing few people, you just dove right in for great things about how you've done on access, um, cable advisory and yeah, uh, your resume looks. impeccable for, you know, an affordable housing trust role in particular. give you the floor yeah i wasn't sure it did say it was uh voluntary but i figured i might as well it's it's interesting watching the meeting as well so um yeah i'm paul i live on uh 82 potter hill so very top of potter hill i run a farm up here and um i'm on the farmer's market committee i'm very passionate about agriculture and i'd love to you know support um ag in any way i can so i'm interested in returning as an agricultural commission member hasn't been a very active commission since i joined but i guess that's a good thing if there aren't any issues yeah you know i think uh i think you could take it take it as that for sure um

And I think from our perspective, we're generally kind of looking to the AgCom for suggestions as to anything we could be doing better as well or the town in general. Okay. Yeah, whatever you guys make of it.

hi everyone good evening thanks for having me tonight um my name is emma coates i'm here for the conservation commission my educational background is in arbor culture urban forestry and city planning my professional background i spent several years working for different municipal departments i worked for the conservation department in the town of lincoln and I worked for the Town of Wellesley Planning Department. In my current capacity, I'm at Ty and Bond. I'm a project planner, so I work in the regulatory environmental space. I've been in Grafton for about a year now, and I'm really looking to get involved with the community, and I think given my education, background, and personal interests, this would really align with what I'm looking to do, and I think I would bring a unique perspective as someone that has worked worked for a board, submitted applications for a board, and I would really love the opportunity to sit on a commission as well and sort of be more well rounded.

So, yeah, your submission, you sound ultra qualified for the role. And like, we would be very fortunate to have you aboard.

Hi, good evening. Can you hear me okay? We can. Welcome, Megan. Perfect, thank you. Megan King. I moved to Grafton in August of last year, so still a bit of a newbie in town. We moved from Northbridge, so we didn't move too far. I grew up in Sutton, so I've always been in this area. But my professional career, I've been in the insurance industry for 15 years now. I've been in product underwriting and customer service roles. For my current role, I'm a product and pricing manager at an insurance company. So for the pricing side of the job, I'm looking at pricing models and making sure we have adequate rates. And then for the product side, I'm looking at the insurance forms. So I draft them and then I also work on filing them. Because insurance is so heavily regulated, I work with the Department of Insurance. I worked with them in 25 different states to get forms and rates approved. So now that I've kind of settled into town, I'm looking to volunteer. I selected this committee because I love history. I'm looking to help preserve the town. I think it's a beautiful town. I enjoy visiting the Grafton Common. I live only a mile away, so I love to have those beautiful walks. And I just think this committee would be great for my insurance background and just my love of history.

TA REPORT. SO THIS IS A LITTLE BIT OF A HYBRID REPORT BECAUSE WE JUST DID A REPORT LAST WEEK. So just wanted to go over a couple things, pulled out a correspondence, received the email about some trees that were cut down at Nelson Park. I did speak to the tree warden. They were dead trees that were marked as a hazard. The tree warden is responsible for checking for all active nests prior to the removal. And given the nature of that email, it might be something that the select board wants to consider to create a policy regulating tree work and nesting season more tightly. So there are communities that have bylaws of that nature and or select board policies. So if it was something that the board is interested in, I would suggest putting that on a future agenda and you can take a look at it. If you were looking to simply regulate tree work being done by the town, that would be a policy. If you were looking to do that in a broader sense, then that's a bylaw initiative. 95 North Street, we're making progress on the concrete pad for the pavilion. Just locking in the final specification. And we did get the as-built plan for the grades today from the contractor. So we'll be working through that data and doing our final grading and rolling of the path. George Hill Road, we've got our pre-construction on this Thursday. We did receive some comments from residents. We have updated both the website and the ClearGov page. And those are now up to date. We'll do that again after 6-4 when we actually have some concrete information from the contractor about what this looks like, where we're starting staging the flow of the project.

Just one comment on that. I mean, just thinking about it, and I hadn't thought about it before, but is it possible to send the residents a letter?

So my plan was to get through 6-4, create a synopsis of what we have learned, and then use code red to just text and email everybody on the street. So we did when we were doing like the public hearing process and some other things.

Do we have that for everybody? I mean, we do.

Okay. I don't know if it's everybody. I'd have to double check to make sure that every house has a dot on it.

I mean, the connecting roads, too.

Yeah, I think I have a map that I drew up in the system that I did the first time, so we'll Although, now that I say it out loud, it won't have, no, it probably has Faymont. It doesn't matter. I'll look at that and make sure we hit everybody. Just wanted to update the Pine Street intersection and Route 30. There are granite curbs and concrete sidewalks in that plan. The only place that calls out asphalt is any sections where we're beyond the scope of the work and we're tying in and we mess up the asphalt or the curbing that we'd have to redo it in kind. which I don't think we're going to wind up in that condition.

Yeah, you had to go deeper into the actual drawings themselves to find the finite explanation. So that's good. We should have just said that we got it upgraded for free. I'd say. And then I just wanted to call out some staff accolades. We did get an email regarding the building department recognizing Bonnie, Tracy, Kevin, and George for various things that they did with a resident throughout their project. And so I wanted to make sure that we called those people out. We also received another email regarding Kristen Pascaine assisting with retirees transitioning into the GIC health insurance. Um, they said that Kristen is upbeat in her tone and demeanor and, uh, even went out of her way to call a separate municipality to try to help folks get the document that they were missing for GIC. So that's pretty good. That's the, I don't know how many, uh, versions of that letter we've gotten about our payroll benefits department between Kristen and, um, Matt. So they're doing very good work, very compassionate people. Um, and I think they genuinely like what they do in helping people. I actually had a, this is just an aside, a retiree come to meet with me that was upset about the switch to GIC and was very angry with how things were working out for them personally, but went out of their way to say how great everyone in the department is. They just hate the other part of the process, which we were able to help work through that, but I did take that as a, a very good note that, you know, even when people are angry, they're still recognizing that these are nice people. And then lastly, I just wanted to point out Adam LaPointe. He sent an email today that we received a grant for a floating beach wheelchair. So that will assist people with disabilities to be able to enjoy Silver Lake. So that's a pretty cool thing. I also wanted to point out Adam's been working on that. since he started here. That was one of the things that he wanted to see come to fruition. And he's been pretty dogged about it, searching out grants and trying to figure out how to make this come true. So that's really good work by Adam there.

Nice. It feels pretty amazing that we're going to have one of those in Grafton. You know, seeing, like, bigger Cape beaches starting to get them and it become more the norm, it just, it feels pretty special that Grafton is going to have that accessibility.

Yeah, it's really neat.
