City Council - Regular Meeting

It is time for our meeting. I will call today's meeting of the Andalusian City Council to order and ask you to stand as Mr. Boswell leads us in the prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Let us pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing us together today. Grant us wisdom, unity, and a clear purpose. Guide our words and our work. so that everything we do honors you. May your hand be upon the employees and management of our city. May our actions be reviewed in the years to come as the correct ones. To you, Lord, we give you the honor and the glory. We ask this in your name. Amen. Attention. Salute. One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Okay, I'd like to welcome everyone to our second meeting in August. It's hard to believe we're halfway through August already. But we are. And so we are here tonight to take care of the business that we have on our agenda for this meeting. First thing I want to do is welcome everyone who's with us and remind everyone that we meet on the first and third Tuesdays of each month with the workshop starting at 5.30, usually starting at 5.30, and with a regular session starting here at 6, unless otherwise noted to the public that those times are different than what we usually do. First item of business would be to approve the meeting, excuse me, the minutes of the regular meeting held August the 4th of this year.

No unfinished business. Under new business, we have been asked to approve a liquor license. from State of Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board 010 Lounge Retail Liquor Class 1 License. The application has been filed by Sports Bar and Grill LLC. The trade name is Reckham Sports Bar and Grill, located at 1512 Antioch Road, Andalusia. And we can, again, this is... We're not issuing the license, we're just approving it in the Alabama Board, Beverage Control Board will issue it if they see fit. So I'll put that before you. Do we have a motion to approve the license?

Next item is to approve another year of inmate housing contract with the Covington County Sheriff's Department, or I guess it's actually with the Covington County Commission is that is that I'm saying that right? Both. Office and the Commission. OK, the Sheriff's Office and the Commission. This is the same. The language in that in this new contract is the same language has been that we've been operating on, I think since 2023. The amount of what we pay them. To house prisoners for us was will be the same. No increase in that. So I recommend to you that we approve that action to enter into that contract with the sheriff and Covington County Commission.

Mr. Mayor, I move that we approve the inmate housing contract with the sheriff and with Covington County.

I'll get it right. I'm on the wrong sentence there. Three applications. We have three nominations to approve. Glenn Rawls is currently serving on that board and has asked to be reappointed. Willie Locke has been serving on that board for many years and has asked to be reappointed. And Dr. Jackie Woods has been serving on that board and has asked to be reappointed. All these folks are residents of Andalusia. Do I have a nomination to approve all three of these for nomination or approval? I so move, Mayor. We had a presentation by Dr. Shakespeare at the workshop before we came down here for actual business where he went through of the needs that he's looking for from the city, from the half-cent sales tax collected for us by us or by the city for the schools every year. We went through that in detail. We will study that and get back together and discuss what action we will take on that. We'll try to do that, be ready to take action on it at our next meeting in September. All right, anything else to come before the council tonight? Hearing nothing, we will stand adjourned. And we will be swapping that with some property in town that they own. and they will be paying us the difference in the fair market value to each pieces of property in the amount of $67,000.
