And whereas on March 26th each year, many communities observe Purple Day or Epilepsy Awareness Day to highlight the challenges faced by individuals with epilepsy to reduce stigma and to promote understanding. And whereas education about seizure first aid and recognition of different types of seizures can save lives and reduce harm. And whereas people living with epilepsy contribute to their families, workplaces, and communities and deserve support, understanding, and respect. And whereas raising awareness can lead to improved access to care, better resources, and stronger community support for those affected. Now therefore, I, Robert Hasty, mayor of the city of Ottawa, do hereby proclaim March 26, 2026 as EP as as epilepsy awareness day, purple day, in Ottawa, Illinois, and urge all citizens to observe and support activities that promote awareness, understanding, inclusion for people with epilepsy.
