People came to listen and give their opinions about the Quantum Project, a partnership established between this city and SpaceX, which focuses on one of the most important long-term needs of Brownsville, namely water. The city committee agreed to the understanding note, which provides funds up to 220 million from SpaceX for a water and wastewater infrastructure project that meets useful conditions for Brownsville and Cameron County. The project asked for initial contributions of 40 million, accompanied by six monthly payments of 30 million.

However, I think it is the commission's obligation to consider this. Because the impact is very big for the city of Brownsville, for our future generation.

One of the beneficiaries is the Southmost Regional Water Authority. BPUB is trying to increase the production of water from 7.5 million gallons per day to 10 million with a long-term goal of reaching 20 million gallons per day. Bigger water capacity means more ability to support households, businesses, and economic development in the future, as well as strengthen the water system of the community.

This is not about when. We are in a unique situation here. What I mean is, if you turn off the water, Bronzeville will become inhospitable. The fact is, that's how it is. We all need water, and Bronzeville will not become inhospitable slowly. What I mean is, the next day you can't survive.

The Commission also agreed on the second and final reading of the Regulation 2026.4.2013, which annexes about 445 acres along with road rights that are close to the corporate and extraterritorial jurisdiction of the city. For Bronzeville, the city leaders said that this water agreement is an opportunity to take advantage of private investment for public infrastructure and prepare communities for long-term growth.
