Our mission of the community of character is to inspire, motivate, and recognize excellent character in Orangeburg County. Why is character important? Character is the foundation of strong communities. When individual practice good character, they build trust, promote fairness, and strengthen relationships within family, schools, workplaces, and community. Character encourage people to make ethical decisions, show compassion for others, and take responsibilities for their actions. By recognizing and celebrating positive character traits, we help inspire others to help to live with integrity, excuse me, and contribute to a culture of respect, service, and citizenship. The community of character program promotes these values through the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, care, and citizenship.
