City Council Committee - Regular Meeting

All right, we have one item. This is a resolution approving an honorary street name change for Samuel Henderson in recognition of his extraordinary courage, faith, and selfless service to the city of Memphis during the 1878, I wasn't born, almost born, yellow fever epidemic. All council districts sponsored by Memphis City Council. I'm gonna turn this over to Councilman Fortunelli.

Thank you, Chairman. Colleagues, I was extremely honored to be able to bring this, and I'm very grateful for all of you signing on as co-sponsors. Something that I had no idea about until a member of St. Peter Catholic Church brought it to my attention. Sam Henderson has an incredible story, and it was... His story meant a lot to me for a variety of reasons, but he's certainly someone worth acknowledging and celebrating and appreciating many things in his life from surviving slavery to helping many sick church members and community members during the yellow fever epidemic and was just truly a selfless person who gave of himself each and every day with expecting nothing in return. So with that, Chairman, I move it to the floor, and I appreciate, and again, I'm very grateful for all of your support.
