One bit of good news is that I believe we're moving forward with the kind tile design at 96th Street Park, which is an environmental project where tiles will be placed on the seawall that will help grow the oysters, which purifies the water. I wanted you to know that.

Thank you, Madam Vice Chair. I did bring a new report that is up on the screen and I did not send out with the agenda because we just got some new numbers from Finance late last week. So we last looked at summer months. I think July was the one that we did at the December meeting. So we now have October and November and In talking to our finance team, I've since learned that they needed to do kind of a deep dive into the payment tracking and kind of come up to speed with some of the different payments in recent months. So they're still in process of that and they are now identifying exactly which businesses they have to follow up with. So I got verification that Code Compliance is going to be involved in following up, so there's more you know, there's more continuity as we definitely don't want to let a lot of months go. And we noticed there were a couple of restaurants that had, you know, not paid in some time. So two sets of numbers on the screen, the food and beverage and the accommodations, October and November. The first number for the food and beverage is not going to be so accurate because I noticed there are still quite a few restaurant payments. I'm confident that those deficits, both the year over year in 2023 are going to be decreased once they have some time to go through that. But the 4% accommodations number is pretty accurate because I was able to verify that all of the payments are in. So we can see. a little bit of a dip versus the previous year. So 4.5% down versus 2024, and we are still way up versus 2023. Just something to keep in mind that we have seen a little bit of a dip, and then looking at the three main hotels, I could see each of them had a little bit of a dip, and that's just enough to get us to that 4.5%. But I wouldn't say it's alarming. I mean, they're still relatively close. And just know that the restaurant payments are going to take a little bit of time, but there is a process that is being followed, and they are now getting to that deep dive.

I do have a question as it relates to, you talk about this process. I mean, we've been doing this for a long time. Maybe somebody needs to review their process if we're constantly trying to figure out who didn't pay us, because otherwise it seems like lending is being a banker, if you're not paying your bills on a regular basis and you're carrying it for two and three and four or five months, then you're in debt and you owe money. And if you owe money, there's usually repercussions with that. And whether it's interest or are we in the business of lending, right? So I think as long as they're open for business, they should be paying and there should be a quality system in place that doesn't have to be reviewed on a regular basis to see who really owes us and who really doesn't. My opinion.

Madam Chair. Thank you, board member. Yes, I completely agree. And I believe in the last board meeting, that topic was also briefly brought up. Our director and I had a conversation with that in mind, and he is doing a little bit of research at the moment to see what some of the other towns like Miami Beach and Miami are doing, because there's a very small group of cities who actually can put that 4% accommodations on. The rest of the cities cannot. So he's taking a look at how they do it. Unfortunately, If my memory serves correct, and it could be wrong, so I'm not gonna speak for him and he's not done doing everything he needs to do. If my memory serves correct, that process is mainly a manual process, even for Miami Beach and Miami, in which they have dedicated staff to essentially audit on a week-to-week basis all of their hotels and and restaurants and they go after them in in a manual process now it's a little difficult for us it's not to say that our process wouldn't work correctly it's a little difficult for surfside at the moment and and these are things that we are addressing and we are going to be improving. But essentially, all but one member of our finance team is new. And when I say new is within four months. On top of that, the town is still trying to finalize the audit for fiscal year 24. We should have already started or been halfway through fiscal year 25. So we're two years behind. So when you compound all of these systematic issues that we are now resolving on top of this, everything's going a little bit slower than what we would like. But the fact that Frank, and I think it really comes down to the director's collaboration and his way of working with other people, That they're able to start getting some of these numbers coming through the system a little bit better is already starting to see. Not the full light at the end of the tunnel, but we're starting to see the glow of it, I guess, is an easier way to say it. So it is something that both he and the department are working towards. I think you're absolutely right and I've asked them to even look beyond what the local cities do to other places because. To me, in 2025, there should be some type of automated process, and I'm sure it's out there. I don't personally know what that would be, but I'm sure it's out there, so he is doing his homework. I'm not trying to put him on the spot or ask him to give all his research today or anything, but we'll definitely be coming back with not only a better internal, but if there's something externally that it's innovation and we need to kind of explore, then we'll be looking at that as well.

Thank you, Madam Vice Chair. So yeah, this item is to recap the Midnight Madness event that was held on December 6. And that, again, was organized by some of the businesses in the shopping district. And it is a kind of shopping promotion meant to encourage people to come out and shop. and to animate the business district. So that was held on December 6th. A couple of you were in attendance. I know board member Salsower was there, our chair as well, who's not here tonight. But essentially, it was a nice evening. Some of the stores that were participating, I did notice more activity inside. And some of them really kind of took it to heart and had some fun promotions and discounts. So you could see a little bit more foot traffic in the stores. the stores. Another element that this had was some live music. So, you know, one of the organizing stores took it upon themselves to hire a violinist, which I thought worked well as kind of a pilot for something that I had mentioned to the board last year, which was maybe to add some music to Harding Avenue, some live music every so often, you know, not a big stage or anything like that, just pretty low impact, but just to have that nice vibe with the live music. Personally, I thought the violinist was really good. He got a lot of people engaged. He had a really small footprint. So he had a speaker that accompanied his violin, maybe some beats or some background music. But overall, I thought he was great. So we can also talk about whether the board is interested in having a musician every so often. I do have the rates for his performance. And yeah, just want to hear from maybe some of the other board members.

But his manager did say they might be open to some discounts if we book multiple performances. So something to consider.

And that would be the time to hire Mr. Mann as well.

All right, so yeah, we just wanted to recap the tree lighting ceremony held on December 7. I think most of you were there. It was a really nice evening. You know, we had a great turnout again. I have to say our town hall corner looks much improved this year. You know, the tree looks really nice. The lighting is nicer. The nativity scene upgrade is... Very substantial. Yeah, excellent job. Looks great out there. And then I thought the performance was a nice touch from the kids, the orchestra. A couple of things we can always improve for next year. I think the program could be maybe a little bit better organized and maybe announced from the get go so people kind of know what to expect. coordinate with santa a little bit that's just for me because he gets stressed about his chair and people seeing him set up or whatnot so we'll do a better coordination with santa claus but i think an excellent santa yes he is uh you know just the perfect santa claus i don't know yeah we've been having him for two years already we've had him for a couple years he's great And we did get the new speaker system, which was plenty loud. It was much improved and our sound was good. The treats were great. Thank you to all the volunteers and everybody that came out to help.

I have a comment regarding the lighting itself. Just by passing by through all the days in the holiday, I realized like maybe the lights, that are around the whole building are too cool. Maybe will be better for next year if they're a little bit on the warm color. I don't know if you realize that, but it didn't look like Christmas light. So I don't know if you pay attention to that, or it's an idea you would like to work on for the next year to have in mind.

So there needs to be prep in advance so that that doesn't happen that day and we can all just enjoy. versus that's like when you have a big party at your house and everybody has to stay up and clean after. That's really painful if it's one in the morning, right? So we have enough budget here that we should be able to accommodate what that looks like. So for next year, the flow of this probably should be discussed maybe even in a mini meeting or a conference call to say who does this, how do we get that. And maybe we need to hire somebody who serves and helps coordinate for a couple hours. So just putting it out there so that I think that we've gotten big enough that we can do it that way.

And I wanted to update you with a little bit of what the schedule is looking like and the vendors and that sort of thing. So for the soiree on Saturday evening, as you know, we have the white party. To give you an idea of what it's going to look like, you'll walk in. There will be live mermaids to welcome you. There will be a glam photo booth. potentially with a mermaid. Oh, sorry. How do you do it live? Like, you can, like, press something to make it.

I'll try and leave it as prize, but it's going to be big and it's going to be white. And we have, I think, a beautiful menu lined up. It's the same food vendor that we used for the 90th anniversary. celebration and the kosher was very, very tricky, but we, um, the, I tried many places. I wound up back with the same person who did the singer fest, um, which I thought was delicious. Um, and she, she's going to have to, she's preparing everything the day before to have it. Um, and she checked with the rabbi. So everything is clear, um, that she's able to have it delivered. It's going to be delivered at exactly seven. So it's going to be a little. um, tight because, um, I don't, I like the, the timing with Shabbat and the travel and, and whatever, but we've got it. It's happening. Um, we have, uh, and let me show you what the menu is looking like. So, um, I, I did this just now cause, um, I'm still, I'm actually in the process. So, so just so people are aware that we had like a, there was a timing issue with, um, With, I guess, the bureaucratic process of getting things out, I got the deposit today. So some of these vendors require a deposit in order to secure them. So I went ahead and took care of some of them, like the kosher vendor, because she had to rearrange her travel to be able to do this. But she is doing, she'll do kosher ceviche, and then the rest of it is vegetarian, which I'm actually, I'm personally very excited about. And then the main vendor, Chef Salvador, who we had for the 90th anniversary, will be doing a big paella, He'll also have ceviche, poke bowls, shrimp cocktails, and it's a sort of coastal-inspired menu. He's also doing the charcuterie and the crudités board. The kosher vendor will be doing all the desserts, so the desserts will all be kosher-friendly. Most of her stuff is white except the chocolate mousse. Um, the, the bar, so the bar that I wanted took another event cause we didn't get the deposit. I got two more bars. Um, I am working with them to try because the other vendor that I had was. much more reasonably priced than these two. So I'm, I'm trying to work with this one who has a similar setup to the, to the little truck there. Um, they're called L bar and they have like a little, it's very similar, but they all, it's just, it's so much more expensive. So I'm not, I'm not sure yet. We'll definitely have a bar though. So I have two I'm working with. Um, and then we have the signature cocktail. Um, I put together some cocktail kits in case we can promote those to the, um, The hotels and they basically include like a little glass vial with the iridescent powder the garnishes and it's going to be the surfside moon spritz. And it was just basically it's like a twist on the Hugo spritz it's like an elderflower liqueur. Um, wait, let me go back. Okay. So, so then, so whether we have the, you know, hopefully very beautiful decor, um, and with lounge seating, a stage where you have a live band, um, um, Elson Torres. So he's, I think he's been nominated for two Grammys, right? Yeah. Um, so, you know, he's going to be fantastic. We will also have a live DJ on the beach and we're going to set her up in the, um, the, the lifeguard sand. Um, and then, so when you enter the beach, you'll see the two huge, um, hopefully huge sand sculptures. on the somewhat limited now beach that we have in front of 93rd Street. And well, so I wanted to set up two, like, well, I wanted to set up originally six and now I'm down to two because I think we need to work on the footprint on the beach a little bit. But we'll be doing a live fire show there. So we'll have fire dancers to do a show around the sand sculptures. And then their show is only like, 12 minutes long. So after that, they'll be doing ambience, which means that they'll be like, they can be on for 10 minutes and off for a few minutes because of the fire. So that is basically, I think, the plan for Saturday night. And then Sunday, I put the schedule here. I put it in two different ways because I didn't know what format. Would make sense because we have different activities in different places So we will have starting at 10 a.m. We'll have a sand sculpting workshop On the beach run by the same like the professional sand sculptor He's used to doing these he does them for families he can make it very fun and friendly and then at 11 we'll have Aqua Zumba at the pool and All of these people are, everybody is confirmed. The fire dancers and the mermaids are confirmed. So is Zumba, and so is the rest of the stuff. There's one piece that I'm working on. So we have Aqua Zumba, then from, I'm gonna skip ahead real quick. One to three, we have the mermaiding lessons. Two to four, surfing on the beach. And then at 5 p.m., we'll do sunset yoga. on the beach, and the yoga teacher is going to work with the sound healing practitioner to make sure that they, like during shivatsana, the sound bath will start. And I'm so excited for this, because the sun is setting at 6.04, and the moon is rising at 6.01. So it's like, that never happens. So I think it's going to be really cool. if we have good weather. And then the afternoon, like the green space is sort of the heart of where all this is happening. And we'll have our garden barbecue, which is, you know, just like it's going to be like hot dogs and sliders and chicken nuggets and that kind of thing. And then we also have Rita's to do Icy's. And then we will have, I wanted to do sort of a scavenger hunt that would be based on the Sirside turtle, Kay. So I was going to call it Kay's Quest. And then for that part, I talked to the plastic fisherman to see if we could coordinate with him to make it into some sort of treasure hunt. My original idea was to sort of incorporate just some very light sort of, things about the Tequesta and environmental types of things and then to give out some eco-friendly prizes. I spoke with the youth council and they are very happy to give out the prizes and like it'd be a really good opportunity for them to engage with a lot of other kids. So they're very excited about it. And then we just sort of like brainstorming about how I can incorporate the plastic fishermen into that. I wanted to show you, just through the pictures on here, these are the takeaways that I know we're definitely doing. I looked into the, I wanted to do this little lantern, but the lantern that I wanted is no longer available. And it was like solar and perfect. This one is, this lantern is like, it's pretty and I like it. It doesn't have an option to personalize it, but I can do that. Like I have a cry cut, I can do something to personalize it. But we're all, but I, so I looked into doing Turkish towels. Um, and this is the sample they sent me with the embroidered surf side on it. I think it's very elegant and like, um, people could use it the next day also for yoga. They can use it that evening to sit on the beach and like wrap themselves in. So, um, kind of wanted to, I wanted to make sure that this is okay with you. If I should do, you know, uh, a certain amount of towels and lanterns or just towels or whatever.
