City Council - Regular Meeting

Fire Chief Snow, a happy farewell on her retirement. Today is her very last day with the city. Also with the fire, that means we will welcome our new fire chief, Michael Muir, on Monday will be his first official day. But this weekend marks the 140th anniversary of our fire department. So to make sure the citizens know that the entire community is invited out to a fire station this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and enjoy cake with our firefighters. So 2 to 4, any fire station will be hosting a birthday party. So citizens are certainly invited to recognize this day. Looking at the agenda for Tuesday, the 25th, the highlight is the annual budget. So we've finally come to the point where we've had our public hearings. We'll have one more. I want to make sure everyone notes that this council meeting is a night council meeting. It will begin at 6 p.m. here at the Wichita... City Hall meeting chambers. We will start that meeting off with a business-wise one zoning change item, and then the rest of the meeting will basically be dedicated to the budget discussion. And so the intent is that we will walk away before midnight with an adopted budget for the fiscal year 26. We will. Yeah, we need to. So that is the highlight for the agenda items on the 25th, and then they give you Quick preview and we'll come back to the 25th. On the September 1 agenda, we do have what I call some routine items. We will be considering some more grant applications for our housing services. We have some water sewer projects on there. We do have two design concepts for public art. We will also have some property acquisition and we do have two events requesting alcohol consumption within boundaries. So that will be presented to council. And then the last highlight for September 1st, we heard from a speaker this past week about a potential appeal for event space, the Somewhere Fest. We had a conflict between two groups. We will ask city council to create a panel of three to hear that appeal. So that will be the request for you on September 1st. But otherwise, we can go back to the 25th. Again, budget. I know there's some budget proposals floating around, but that will be the focus of the meeting on the 25th.
