Here's an update on some capital improvement projects around the city. The city recently worked with Union Pacific Railroad to upgrade a portion of the railroad tracks on South Fourth Street. Deteriorated wooden timbers were replaced with concrete, making driving safer and benefiting the railroad with upgraded tracks. The city paid for 65% of the project with the railroad contributing the remaining 35%. The city is nearing completion of the reconstruction of the medians on Broadway Boulevard. All curving on the medians is being replaced, new landscaping put in place, and decorative stamped concrete added. This is a multi-year project with the fourth and final phase to be completed soon. The city is currently constructing a pavilion and shade structure at the parking lot at Santa Fe Avenue and Ash Street. These structures will provide covered areas for the downtown farm and art market, provide shade during concerts at the city light stage, and provide covered parking during times the lot is not being used otherwise. The first phase of improvements to West Magnolia Road is underway. The road will be completely rebuilt from I135 to just west of Virginia Drive with a roundabout at the intersection of West Magnolia Road and Virginia Drive. This phase of the project is scheduled to be completed later this year. The remaining phases of the project, which will upgrade the road west to Centennial Road, are currently in the design phase.
