2:38Speaker 4

Yes, present.

2:40 – 3:03Speaker 8

Oh, yeah. So was there he took his oath and we need to elect chair, vice chair and secretary. Does anybody want to run for chair?

3:03Speaker 5

I nominate you. ANYONE OKAY WITH THAT? YES.

3:13Speaker 8

3:17Speaker 5

3:39Speaker 4

Just to be clear, I'm going to be taking the meeting minutes. Is that correct?

3:44Speaker 4

And is that the extent of my responsibility with this extent?

3:47Speaker 8

And then you have to send them in to Isabel.

3:50Speaker 8

There's a certain format that she'll send you. They have to be written.

3:54 – 4:07Speaker 5

Okay. Aside from all the things that you want to play on, right? You know, ideas, you know, and things like that. Yeah. I think part of this is, you know, you know, the intent of the present service advisory board and kind of like the background of it.

4:08 – 4:20Speaker 4

Right, so just to be clear, I sat in on the last community enhancement board meeting, and it seems like there's a... A little bit of an overlap. There's an overlap, right? So they're organizing events. That's my job, right?

4:21Speaker 4

They're supposed to be beautifying the town. I'd like to help them do that.

4:28Speaker 4

Um, so collaboration is the name of the game too. I mean, you know, so I'd like to do, I see a lot of commonality between the two.

4:37 – 4:52Speaker 5

I think that's a great idea because we even talked about that last year, trying to get together more with the community. Cause I've never sat in on what their board means. I haven't either. They do necessarily, but do they, they, they do things such as like, um,

4:59 – 5:22Speaker 7

Yeah, it was a little bit more public art. They would vote on different artists and different projects in that scope. I think at some point, maybe the conversation came about musical acts and it went down that road. So that doesn't mean that, you know, if we wanted to go discuss something art related, we can do that too. But yeah, there is the overlap for sure.

5:24 – 5:38Speaker 5

And what is historically, sorry about that. No, you're fine. I said historically, has there been collaboration with the community enhancement board? I'm not sure. I'm not sure. Is that something that other boards do, like amongst in the city as well?

5:38Speaker 8

Some boards do, but we've tried before, but we've never been able to actually put it together. So it's definitely something we need to improve on.

5:46 – 6:10Speaker 5

I think we need to come up with an idea or something where we do like a joint event. that really in conjunction or in collaboration with the community it's important maybe an art event at this point i don't know that we can think about that but anyway that's probably another topic maybe if they already have something we can join i don't know they're organizing some musical events

6:10 – 6:23Speaker 4

Yeah, so the last meeting they had, big discussion was around a guitarist that I suppose they're going to be playing at Moda, or they were talking about the venue. They don't have a suitable venue, but they threw around the idea of it being Moda.

6:23 – 6:39Speaker 7

Well, I think once Leo is the liaison for that board, and so I think once they solidify, they'll definitely loop us in, and then I can loop our board in as well. I think they're just talking conceptually about it, but yeah, that would definitely be something we could- A lot of talking. Yeah, exactly.

6:41 – 6:57Speaker 5

I think where we already work in conjunction with, like, a lot of city events that are you know, what a lot of the traditional events, Easter, spring, Christmas events and all that other stuff.

6:57Speaker 4

You forgot about the 4th of July.

6:59Speaker 5

There you go.

7:00Speaker 4

The 4th of July is one of ours.

7:04 – 7:35Speaker 5

So it's like, what, five core events that we do every year? I mean, at least five or six that we do that We get to decide, like, do we want to do barbecue ribs at the 4th of July this year? Or should we do it at 1 instead of 5? And I think we've gone back and forth. So aside from your secretary duties or meeting minutes, coming up with good ideas, fresh ideas for things that we can do, events, scholarship ideas. I mean, we've done a bunch of stuff. You'll see what we come up with.

7:35Speaker 2

Excuse me. Can he move closer to the mic a little bit? It's hard to hear him. Gentlemen, I was just speaking.

7:43Speaker 5

Oh, sorry. Yeah, you can just put them.

7:46Speaker 2

I'll move it down.

7:50Speaker 5

So, yeah, let's definitely take that as an action item for, you know, trying to see how we can collaborate with the community and support.

7:57 – 8:10Speaker 9

We need some support. Yeah, we need we have. Last time we were like, 3 people and. I don't know. Yeah, maybe I will spread some. Uh, brochure around and, uh.

8:13 – 8:24Speaker 5

I know at one point you had it going well. I mean, we've got the WhatsApp group. I see a lot of it. I'm like, I'm going to go, and then I don't go. But anything we can do to help.

8:24Speaker 7

Yeah, I'll make it a point to make sure it's circulated more.

8:28Speaker 8

Yeah, and I just pinned it to this resident's page, the Facebook page.

8:34 – 8:48Speaker 5

Like I told you, I was at soccer practice last week. I think it was a Thursday night, and someone showed up like, hey, where's the run club? I'm like, it's Monday. It's Mondays. She's like, I have this event right here that says it's on Thursdays. So did you check that to see?

8:48Speaker 9

Yeah, I checked that. I don't know what it was that she gets.

8:51Speaker 5

I wonder if she just made a mistake. She didn't actually show it to me. But because I was like, this is just normal. Did you post anything?

8:58Speaker 9

I did. Yeah. It's every Monday, though. I don't.

9:02 – 9:30Speaker 5

she is i felt bad for her because she's taking a cab somewhere she had traveled from out of city or out of town she was here on business and she likes to do run clubs wherever she goes so she's like oh i found this one and showed up and then i was like oh sorry i think it's mondays and maybe they're i was like checking the what's up group thinking maybe you guys tonight you're doing one on thursday i'm like maybe they're out front i don't think she's like all right she ran off and then when i was driving home i saw her running later around here so i guess she just decided to run where do you start

9:32Speaker 9

Behind the school, the TS.

9:35Speaker 5

Where the soccer field is? Okay, that's where she was at. So anyway, we missed a runner there.

9:42Speaker 4

That happens with fitness. My wife teaches yoga, and then she has to correct them. No, I do fitness. Yoga's on Wednesday.

9:50Speaker 8

Oh, right. Yeah, because now there's something every day.

9:53Speaker 4

Yeah. People get confused. Yeah. Yeah.

10:02Speaker 7

We actually just created a new flyer with Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. So hopefully that helps. But I'm sure, yeah, there's still confusion.

10:09Speaker 8

Is it the one you posted? Yeah. Okay. That's the one I printed. Okay.

10:13Speaker 7

Yeah. Just has the dates, times.

10:15Speaker 8

Yeah. Yeah. I thought it did. Yeah.

10:20 – 11:43Speaker 5

The other event we got coming up since we're talking about COVID is on Thursday. We're doing the big networking event where we have software to tech friends coming. And they're going to be... palm tree club we're combining with the chamber event and another little tech right i helped organize it with the tech friends the tech friends um they're a big group they started like five six seven years ago organizing networking events for people who are in tech And they do them all over Florida. There's a central Florida chapter. It's just blown up. And then they also have another branch that they've started with South Florida Tech Kids, which is to give underprivileged kids access to technology. And so my idea at one point talking to them, I'm very good friends with the leader, the founder of it, was let's do this event. Corin and I were thinking, let's do this event, bring them, bring all their people, bring the chamber. At that same night, we're going to talk about the technology club that I want to start similar to what for Ames Run Club is. And then also that night we'll be gathering donations to free their scholarship or for money to Child at Ties for access to the laptop or something like that. We've decided. I think that's probably something when we get the tech club on the agenda, we can talk about what we do with the money we raise from that event.

11:44 – 11:55Speaker 7

What about I think. Oh, sorry. Okay. I think that was, it's donated to the Optimist Club is what I heard. I don't think that goes. The scholarship?

11:57 – 12:38Speaker 5

Not for that event. Not for this event coming up? Yeah. I don't think we get the money. Like the scholarship they do every year? That's totally separate. But we're talking about doing from this event, the proceeds that come from this event are going to go towards we can talk about offline with corn but uh that was the idea is to take a portion of what we get that night and put it towards a scholarship that maybe we can do on the red service advisor board to do something for her oh okay yeah that's yeah i wasn't familiar with that okay yeah but But that's just another bet. So you're all invited.

12:38 – 13:20Speaker 10

Yeah, that's correct. And sorry that I'm not there in person. I'm getting over a flu. But yeah, let's let's catch up more about it offline. There's a number of ways we could do it. I was I spoke to legal to Heidi and she said it might be easier or better if we gave it to me a non-profit uh to administer um so you know we can we can talk about that in more detail but what i have asked palm tree club to do and everybody else is to donate to our north bay village miami foundation account and uh and then at the next commission meeting we will uh decide you know where to put the money so that then we can you know start the scholarship uh program if that makes sense

13:22 – 13:35Speaker 5

Yep. No, that's it. That's the plan for it. Thanks. And I think that that'd be in addition to the society one we do too, right? That we've got every year. So just a thought. I was going to sway you in, but you have to be smart.

13:35Speaker 8

Thanks for working with me before.

13:36Speaker 4

Oh, okay. I thought you missed it. Yeah, you missed it.

13:39Speaker 8

Yeah, it was right before you got here. So you had mentioned before us about trying to start tech something, a club for kids. Do you still have that on your radar?

13:48 – 15:37Speaker 5

I think that out of this tech club that we start here, that's one of the things I want to get going on the agenda for the Residence Service Advisory Board. Because look, we do a lot of the things that we do are in conjunction with events that Julie and I really plan. And then we found stuff like the Run Club. We've come up with stuff like we've tossed around a bunch of ideas over the past couple of years. So what I think we do once we have the tech club, we do things like Tech 101 for Kids. You know, what's a cloud? What's some of the basics that myself and Warren have access to being that we're both a tech, right? So I think from there, that opens up a big... avenue for us to have these other programs, sub programs within the tech group. And then eventually the idea would be to join it with the Chamber of Commerce and have an official tech arm of the chamber there, right? Because with all the growth that we've got coming in the village and everything, you know, having tech savvy individuals where people get together to talk about tech initiatives, I think it's good. So I think from there, we can really unpack a bunch of other things that whether we do it for kids, whether we just do, we're going to have the regularly scheduled networking event, which I already got like five or six people who've come to me very interested in this. They want to join in and start helping me coordinate these events. So I envision, you know, one night we do an event where we come together or then we go to palm tree club and just focus on locations in the city, in the village, where we can get together just with the tech people who live in the village, and then we'll start maybe other people will start coming, right? So just something that we want to get going, knowing that it'll be good to have a group of tech professionals in North Bay Village who should get together and just talk about technology and things that we can do and make it part of an official club that we can get going. Awesome.

15:39Speaker 8

Okay, we need to approve the meeting minutes from the last meeting. Do I have a motion to approve?

15:47Speaker 5

I'll make a motion to approve.

15:48Speaker 1

Is there anything on there that we need to go over?

15:50Speaker 8

Second it. No. Old business. Spring fling.

15:59 – 17:25Speaker 6

So everything is all set for spring fling. Just as a reminder, it's April 12th from 10 a.m. to noon It's a Saturday. We'll have the Easter bunny, of course. I got two petting zoos this year, not one. So there should be just one petting zoo of fluffy bunnies for the kids. And then another petting zoo that has like the goats and the little pigs and the bunnies and chickens and random animals for them to pet and hug. did something different this time i got have you guys ever seen like the teacup ride um at disney world and stuff yeah i got one of those oh cool wow two easter bunnies and a teacup we'll have some food vendors and um hopefully a bounce house or a ball pit or something of that nature i'm still working with that vendor um And then two face painters. And a whole lot of eggs. Oh, yeah. 10,000. I got 10,000 eggs this year. That was crazy. Did we run out one year or something? Yeah. I think we ran out. We hit close. Last year, we didn't run out. I got 5,000 eggs last year. But I feel like the kids just picked them up so fast. Yeah. So I wanted to have double this year.

17:26Speaker 5

What date is it?

17:27Speaker 6

April 12th from 10 to noon.

17:29Speaker 5

We're 10 to noon. At Ty's.

17:32Speaker 8

So it's going to stay at Ty's? Yeah. That's good.

17:36 – 17:48Speaker 5

I know we always like stagger out the age groups for like the kids. Yeah. My daughters went to like, they went to the back to back. I'm like, oh, you're supposed to go to this age group. They got extra eggs.

17:49Speaker 3

So it's good.

17:50Speaker 5

It's all on the flyer.

17:52Speaker 8

Yeah. So are they, I know you had mentioned, I think the school board wouldn't approve of bounce house, right? So no.

18:02 – 18:25Speaker 6

So the bounce house that I get at Ty's, is like a, it's like a slide thing. Oh, with the ball pit, which I did for winter wonderland. Um, but I can't just do like a normal house now, but I can do like, uh, like It was like an obstacle course, which technically isn't a bounce house, but it's still like bouncy, you know?

18:25Speaker 3

Right. Yeah. So I try to mess with it.

18:26Speaker 7

They make them so different now. They, you know, it used to be like in cage. Yes. Now I feel like they're more open and they have little things safer.

18:35Speaker 6

The in cage ones are the ones I can't have.

18:38Speaker 5

They can't be dangerous too. Yeah. Kids collide in there and they start getting neat in the face and things like that.

18:44Speaker 8

Yeah, exactly.

18:47Speaker 8

Sounds good. No comments, no additions? Anybody on that?

18:53Speaker 9

Do you need volunteers?

18:56Speaker 8

Of course. I always need volunteers. Yeah, we're looking at you for it.

19:03Speaker 5

I go to all the events. I feel like a volunteer, but I'm not really a volunteer. You're still at that stage. So I go, but I'm like, you good? All right, good.

19:15 – 19:48Speaker 6

um are we gonna have any vendors like you know because um I have two food vendors um there will be one that's like uh she was at Winter Wonderland she does like coffee and little bites like croquetas and bananas um she does like pastries little things like that it's like a little coffee like trailer cart thing um There's another vendor that I'm waiting to hear back from. And then I reached out to an assay place since it's like 10 to noon. I wanted to keep it light and breakfasty.

19:49Speaker 5

Um, so we usually have like people who, uh, have been local businesses set up a table or something like that.

19:58 – 20:41Speaker 6

Um, I don't know if I've done that in the past, mainly because not every single restaurant. has the capability to set up like their own tent. Like they don't have the, the mobility. Cause it usually involves like mobile girls or like, like the coffee cart woman, for example, like she has her own trailer where she moves wherever she wants. It already has all her gear and stuff in there. Um, whereas like the paella people that I had for Halloween, I think it was like, they come and they bring their own big things to cook the paellas and like they have their gas tanks, they have whatever. And not every single restaurant has the capability to do that.

20:41Speaker 5

I was just wondering if maybe like a way to promote local businesses that they want. I mean, of course, there would be more than one.

20:47 – 21:01Speaker 9

That's a good idea, though. Like we can maybe, I don't know, as like people can, we were talking about arts markets, like people can sell their art. I don't know if we can do it in the events like this.

21:01 – 21:54Speaker 7

We did that. Were you at the Winter Wonderland? trying to remember it was um she had a concept of doing a lot of um like uh the idea was the christmas markets so there was a lot of vendors that sold candles different things i still have like i bought a couple packs of hot sauce that i loved they were really good yeah so that's what i was thinking like exactly that just any vendors that want to come like we start with the local businesses and anyone that wants to come and set up a table maybe that could be revenue for us too like if you know table setup is 50 bucks or whatever yeah this one's kind of short though 10 to 11 because of the yes frankly yeah it's more so about the space too because all the vendors took up a lot of space and they they stagger when they get there yeah um and we want a lot of the space like for the eggs and just more but yeah definitely something else down the road we could maybe the next one yeah

21:54Speaker 8

It's a little longer, right?

21:55 – 22:13Speaker 6

Yeah, and I also try to make it fit the theme. Like, I thought the vendors made sense at Winter Wonderland because it was, like, Christmas themed. You know, everyone's getting ready for the holidays. They want to buy all these gifts and knickknacks. It's true. You're at Spring Fling, and, like, all you want to do is you want to get the kids, like, the eggs for your kids. You know, you're not really focused on, like, buying a candle.

22:13Speaker 5

Yeah, right.

22:16 – 22:27Speaker 6

But other than that, yeah, I've definitely thought of that. Yeah, and if you know a local vendor, like a small one that we don't know about... Yeah, I'm always open to new vendors. I love meeting the new.

22:27Speaker 5

I'm sure it'll be fantastic as it is every day.

22:29Speaker 6

It'll be egg-citing. Excellent.

22:34 – 22:46Speaker 9

Maybe we can announce something like, hey, if you guys are on the website, if there are local vendors want to be part of that.

22:46 – 22:57Speaker 6

I did for Winter Wonderland, but I didn't this time just because I don't know. I kind of, I wanted to keep it more breakfasty, coffee, you know, I handpicked them.

22:57Speaker 5

We'll have tents and stuff because the sun at that time.

23:02Speaker 6

I got a big tent and then there'll be five round tables with chairs, eight chairs for people to sit at each one. And then the DJ booth is another big tent too.

23:14Speaker 8

Is your next event the 4th of July?

23:17 – 23:42Speaker 6

We have a few before the 4th of July. we have a women's history month um event coming up um the mayor and commissioner acosta are going to do a panel discussion at palm tree club um with a reception to follow um i have poop free mbb which is the the dog event yeah that i'll do at civic park um there's one more too right julie

23:43 – 24:04Speaker 7

Well, this was just at some point we'll have an event for once the kayak launch, once that's underway. There is the commissions participating or some of them are in a corporate soccer tournament at FIU. And then we have in the summer, we have the Pride events.

24:05 – 24:17Speaker 5

so we have quite a follow that yeah before even yeah so we're kind of working our way awesome what is the deal with the soccer i saw i i saw the announcement that i thought it already passed or maybe it was i looked at something but when is that

24:19 – 24:31Speaker 7

This is the FCC, the Football Concourse Zone program that we've brought every now and then. They do it once a year. It's at FIU this year. It's April 3rd.

24:32Speaker 5

Can people from the village participate? Yeah. Do you want to play?

24:37Speaker 2

Yeah. No, no. We need you. We have 30 spots available.

24:41Speaker 10

It's all residents. Everyone's encouraged to come. What did you say, Glenn?

24:47Speaker 5

We have 30 tickets for residents.

24:50Speaker 10

And you don't have to play. You can just come out. There's going to be free food. And it's just a fun community event.

24:56Speaker 5

Because I think I've seen pictures of the ones that you've done in the past. So North Bay Village can field a team too?

25:02 – 25:16Speaker 7

Yes. No, please, please. No, I should have explained that more because I think in the past it was such a niche thing. It's the soccer. So yes, please. Spread the word. I have jerseys for everybody.

25:16Speaker 5

If I need to register or whatever, I'd love to do it because I saw it and I thought I was like, oh, it already passed already.

25:21Speaker 7

No, no. It's April 3rd. It's a Thursday night from... I want to say five to 10.

25:26Speaker 5

So it's coming up.

25:27 – 25:41Speaker 7

Yep. So I already registered us. So we're good to go. As the weeks in the coming weeks, we'll probably start to do like a registration, but it'll go through me. So just send me an email, let me know, or I'll send you guys emails for sure.

25:41Speaker 4

Where does that happen?

25:43Speaker 7

It's at FIU.

25:44Speaker 4

Oh, okay. So that's like a half, I guess.

25:47 – 26:18Speaker 7

Yeah. Last year they had it at U Miami on their field. So now it's bigger. So it's going to be one of the fields and it's a tournament where different companies play in and they have a team and all the donations go towards the program, which is, you know, soccer and youth activities for kids and things like that. Yes. So, and it's fun. Yeah, it's, you know, fun, competitive. They have like Chick-fil-A sponsors it. So they have the free food and us able, stuff like that. It's fun.

26:18Speaker 5

Well, I'll reach out. Yeah, yeah.

26:21Speaker 8

Are any of those coming up events, music, like concert related?

26:24Speaker 7

Not yet. The Pride will have some music. The Pride will have some music.

26:37Speaker 8

We don't have a grant for music anymore, right? I know we had one at one time.

26:42Speaker 6

But Music in the Park is in September.

26:47Speaker 4

Not to add to all these events, but has anyone thought of a community blood drive?

26:53 – 27:18Speaker 7

maybe the big red bus comes in and we used to do it i've seen them here before but yeah um i know they've they've reached out in the past actually um commissioner shervoni is um going to have us look into the mammogram bus the mobile one so i'm hoping to have that maybe in september come by um i know the folks from the blood drive they've definitely reached out before we just need the space we have to figure out where to put them

27:18Speaker 4

I haven't donated blood at all in New York. And since I'm here, I've donated blood like three times. Oh, wow. And all through the red bus.

27:24 – 28:00Speaker 5

So that's why I'm bringing that up. Yeah. They used to park. This was pre-COVID. It was like, I remember it was like, you know, like they used to park right back here in the alley. Like I remember I was walking somewhere and they're like, you want to donate blood? I've seen them park in front of ties. yeah yeah yeah so they're yeah they're they're definitely present in the village but that's a good idea yeah I think if they're pretty um self-sufficient it's just we have to give them a space or maybe we just get with them and figure out when they're coming and see if they're trying to invite them yeah we can invite them and then advertise it yeah I think I saw the contact

28:02Speaker 8

Okay, so new business. Discussion on the YMCA summer camp. One last thing, so sorry.

28:07Speaker 5

Oh, sure. 5K.

28:11Speaker 5

It was actually two years ago when I first joined. I'm glad you asked. Can we get 5K going? I'm glad you asked. You're going to support me on this 5K. I know you'll support me on the 5K.

28:23 – 29:11Speaker 7

It's your lucky day. So I looked into it and I have a couple blackout dates. And so we can talk about maybe some dates in the future. There is a organization that they will put it on and to make it turnkey for us. So we're talking about like barricades. We have to work with the police, obviously. shirts like the bibs registration everything and we were thinking of putting into the budget for next year and it could be like an annual thing and what we would need would probably be like volunteers for water stations i would advertise things like that get kids from the school to do it you know like um yeah i used to do one here years ago like um and it was every little bit and i've had a lot of people ask me yeah like

29:12Speaker 5

Why don't we do a 5K?

29:15Speaker 7

Yeah. So this company, this organization, I think that they would be a great fit to do. Like I said, it's pretty turnkey.

29:23Speaker 5

How much is it? Because I think when I brought it up first, you were like, it's going to cost like $20,000.

29:30 – 30:01Speaker 7

Do you remember that? We reached out and it was like $20,000. No, they quoted me almost $9,000. But that includes, you know, like they would do the barricades. Those, you know, are part of the charge. They do an MOT. So they map out the whole course for us and everything. So they have dates that they are already booked. So we can just pick some dates around that. So if we want to do like a Saturday, probably I'm thinking like November, December, maybe. Um, weather-wise.

30:01Speaker 8

It's not so hot.

30:02 – 30:24Speaker 5

Yeah. Because I think, I think we had thought about doing a, like a, like a turkey trot or something like that. And you guys brought up, well, that's like staff is off. Yeah. So definitely we want to be sensitive to that, but yeah, let's just do one. Like when it's, when it, when it's convenient, but just getting part of the thing that I wanted to see is more events around fitness. Right. So, uh, 5k.

30:24Speaker 4

Yeah. And raise money.

30:26Speaker 7

Yeah, you could get donations or sponsors.

30:30Speaker 4

We'd have to figure that out.

30:33 – 30:45Speaker 7

But no, I mean, it would be a great event. So if you guys are interested, you know, I'll continue the conversation with the organization and we can decide on maybe a date and go from there.

30:46Speaker 5

Yeah, I mean. It's a great price. Yeah, it's not bad.

30:50Speaker 7

Yeah, it's a company. They worked with Bay Harbor Islands. Oh, okay. I got to look. Yeah, I'll get back to you.

30:58Speaker 5

Um, but, yeah, we're just, we definitely think it's, it's something that the community is asking about.

31:03 – 31:18Speaker 7

There's a lot of logistics and it would just be nice to have a professional to help. We have to get a permit from F dot to use the causeway. We have to barricade it. There's a lot. So, yeah, I think that'll be helpful to have that. And then, you know, we did the rest. We promote it.

31:19Speaker 5

Our home can map out the three and a half miles it takes to do the 5K. But no, I think that's awesome. I'd love to see that.

31:28Speaker 7

I think it includes medals, awards, you know. Oh, and like the first, second place. What are those called? Podium. Yeah, yeah.

31:36Speaker 7

Yeah. And it's like a big, like the blow up, the finish line, all that stuff.

31:39 – 32:01Speaker 5

I work beyond that podium, but I'll run it. I would run. Yeah. I would do it. I think it's one that you could do. The family could do it too. Cause I do it with my daughters and they're like, I've been doing them since they were like five, six. And of course I went from the running stroller to now they're actually running. And my daughter just did her first actual, she actually ran the whole thing.

32:01Speaker 1

We did the turkey chop for Lauderdale.

32:03 – 32:28Speaker 5

Right. And so, um, you know we do if families will come out they'll walk with their kids we do a run walk so it's not like you know the runners start first and then we have a little square afterwards a little event yeah i'd love to see that yeah maybe we can get you know a discount at palm tree or somewhere else you know for food after like we used to do at chuckers things like yeah i love the idea

32:29 – 33:07Speaker 7

yeah yeah so let's talk um maybe next meeting we can solidify a few dates and i could you know let the organization know that we definitely want to move forward yeah definitely add that to the agenda yes thank you yeah all right sorry now we go to ymca yeah now the ymca i had asked um frank village manager to join us also on this item because i wanted to know more details on the contract he's here frank do you want me to start I can chime in until.

33:07Speaker 3

That means he's on.

33:16 – 37:09Speaker 1

Can you hear me? Yeah. Hello, hello, hello. Hello. Good evening, everybody. All right, let me give you a rundown on the summer camp operations. Today, there was a meeting with YMCA and with the Arts for Learning over at the elementary school with the principal to coordinate these two programs that will be located there. So I'll give you the rundown. The first one, the Arts for Learning program, they have a capacity for 60 children. It'll run from June 9th. through July 18th. It's a six-week program. It is for the entire program. The why, you can come and go by the week, but the Arts for Learning program is you sign up for the full six weeks. It's free. It's funded by the Children's Trust. The ages range from incoming K to grades five, no pre-K, coming into K to fifth grade. It'll be Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will receive a breakfast, a lunch, and a snack. There's two field trips off-site and three what they call in-trips presentations for the six-week session. And the child must enroll for the full six-week session. And that program is free. Then on the Y, they can take 75 to 90 children. It runs from June 9th to August 1st. And there are eight weekly sessions, and you can come and go by the week. The age range is incoming K to 8. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They get breakfast, lunch, and a snack is also provided. One field trip per week, off-site, and one in-trip. Presentations per week. Transportation is included in the price. Child can enroll for weekly sessions at a time. Child does not need to commit to the full time. So let's talk about what the costs are for this program. For North Bay Village residents and TIE students, the village is funding it 100%. Children that do not attend TIEs and are not North Bay Village residents, there's no village funding. The registrant pays the full cost of $208 a week per child per week. Now there's going to be an open house presentation for both programs together will be held at Ty's cafeteria on March 17th at 3 30 PM. Registration will open for both programs on the evening of Monday, March 17th. And there's going to be flyers for the programs that are going to be posted, things on our social media, and there'll be flyers at the schools for the kids to take home. So that's sort of it in a nutshell.

37:10Speaker 8

So how much is it costing the village per child? $208,000 as well?

37:16Speaker 1

You know, I don't know what that exact figure is. It's discounted, but it's, you know, it's a chunk of money.

37:26Speaker 8

Okay, and do the North Bay Village residents get first dibs?

37:32Speaker 1

Do they get what? I didn't pick hip over chest. Do North Bay Village residents do what?

37:40Speaker 8

Get priority. Do they get the chosen first?

37:44 – 37:57Speaker 1

Yes, that's the plan is the residents and those that go to ties will be able to get into the program before it's opened up, you know, if there are any slots left.

38:02Speaker 5

I love it. I think it's a great idea. And I'll have no questions, Frank, because you literally answered every one of my questions as you went through everything.

38:10Speaker 8

I have a question.

38:13Speaker 8

On the art, is that also North Bay Village First?

38:18Speaker 1

All of the programs are North Bay Village First.

38:21 – 38:54Speaker 5

Okay. I like the fact that we're doing an art program separately from actual camp yeah because like they did our michaels have attended the last three summer camps we've done here and they mix in a lot of different things but the fact that we're doing a separate art program the one that's more i guess ymca focused yeah um is good so i think it sounds fantastic and the location for the treasure island yeah is the art one treasure island as well everything's at the school

38:58 – 39:16Speaker 1

And there'll be, I think how they're going to do it is because there can be multiple children from the same family and children that are in one program and not in the other program. Yeah. There'll be a wristband so that we can separate them pretty quickly and know which program they're supposed to be in.

39:17Speaker 8

Do you know if the Y camp is going to be taking older youth as volunteers, like the old camp used to?

39:27 – 39:55Speaker 1

um i believe they have their own um counselors is that something for future that we can discuss with them so that we can include our older youth because they also need something to do for the summers i can uh pursue that with uh with uh janiece who's really ramrodding at our end so you want to know if north bay children older children can be utilized as camp counselors

39:55 – 40:12Speaker 8

Right, which they were before. So the teenagers, they would be like pre-counselors, and then once they were in high school, some of them would be hired as counselors. So something to that effect so that our older teens have also something to do.

40:13Speaker 1

All right, I'll check it out.

40:15Speaker 8

Thank you. That's a good idea. Does anybody have any questions on this?

40:22Speaker 5

No. No? Well, when does it start? When does registration start, I guess?

40:30 – 40:52Speaker 1

March 17th. In the evening, the registration will be open for both programs, evening of Monday, the 317th. So there'll be a presentation of the programs on March 17th at 3.30. And that evening, they'll open up the registrations for both programs.

40:52 – 41:06Speaker 8

And the registration will be online? Yes. Okay. So this covers this summer, but I know the YMCA, we're working for a contract for future services, correct?

41:07 – 41:27Speaker 1

All right. There's two. This is the summer program. Right. We have a continual program that goes on through the year to the next summer program. And we're in for that one too. And that one will involve when there's you know, teacher work days and that type of thing, there will be programs for the kids to go to.

41:29Speaker 8

But that's still in the works.

41:31 – 41:59Speaker 1

Well, I mean, we know, I think we know what the program is, but we split it into two phases. Number one, because we didn't want confusion between people and what they're signing up for. Thought they signed up for the summer and they ended up with the winter side. And the other thing is, is we wanted to get this thing out rather quickly. So the parents are already calling wanting to, you know, get a slot lined up for their child.

42:00 – 42:24Speaker 1

So this one will, as we get towards the end of summer, we'll roll this one out. We'll know more specifically what it's going to be. And that's the plan on that. Now, both of these programs on time-wise are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, 8 to 6.

42:27Speaker 8

But that contract's not signed for past summer, is it?

42:32 – 42:43Speaker 1

The contract's not signed, but the commission has approved both programs. We're still working on the contract for the winter side.

42:45 – 42:56Speaker 8

Right, because I believe that there was discussion about for future for the contract, as far as covering only North Bay Village residents, because we're using tax dollars then for people who don't live in the village.

42:57Speaker 10

That's correct. Yes, I made that point. Yeah, where are we with that, Frank?

43:03Speaker 1

You know, it's still breaking up a little bit. The question is about what, say it again?

43:10 – 43:25Speaker 8

At the commission meeting, I recall them talking about residents only going forward. Not for this summer because this came on suddenly, but going forward because now we're using tax dollars to fund people who don't live in the village.

43:27 – 43:39Speaker 1

Right. And the only one, well, that's like I said, the program that is not free is the people that don't live in the village are paying $208 a week per child. It's the Thais that don't live in the village as well.

43:42 – 43:57Speaker 8

That's what they were talking about. They mentioned the commission. I think Gorin said it was him that put her up. You see what I'm saying? Because there's a very small percentage of actually kids from North Bay Village that attend Ties.

43:58Speaker 10

Yeah, Frank, did we ever get the percentage of kids that are North Bay Village kids over at Ties versus everyone else?

44:07Speaker 1

If we have it, Commissioner, I don't have it at my fingertips, no.

44:12Speaker 10

Okay, I'll follow up this week to hopefully get that.

44:15Speaker 1

No, we can get it. I mean, maybe they have it and that's not on the punch list they gave me to go over tonight.

44:23Speaker 10

Yeah, no, no, it's okay.

44:26Speaker 8

Is the art camp something that's going to be ongoing or is that a one-time deal for the summer?

44:30Speaker 1

It's a summer program.

44:32Speaker 8

Right, but is it just this summer or is it like ongoing for next summer?

44:35Speaker 1

You mean for every summer?

44:38 – 45:34Speaker 1

I don't have the answer to that. So if you remember back, the Children's Trust funded us completely for the summer program. That's not the case this time. We do not have the opportunity to get back in that program again until 2027. So we went and met with them, met with the president and so forth, the Children's Trust. And they said they would help us where they could, and they were able to come up with this money for the arts program. And then we worked separately to get the Y to come in on the other side to fill the other gap because the arts program can only take 60 kids, and we've got a lot more children that need to go to camp. So, you know, we're picking up 150 kids with these two programs.

45:36 – 46:04Speaker 5

okay thank you does anybody have any questions no I think it's good I mean I know we had heard we had lost that trust money so I think we that's a good job on just trying to make up for what we uh what we lost right so splitting it up now I understand why we're doing the YMCA and the the two different programs so oh yeah good information to know and um I think it's great that we're doing it so I have

46:14 – 46:31Speaker 8

Let's see. Do we have any staff or commission updates? Nothing? Public comment? No? Okay. Agenda for items for next meeting. We kind of talked about that as we went along. Is there anything anyone wanted to add for next meeting?

46:32 – 46:50Speaker 4

Well, yes, I can say that the State Road, 934, I've been enrolled in the, I've enrolled myself, I should say, to adopt the highway. So clean up efforts. I have four that I'm going to try to organize in the next year before December.

46:51Speaker 4

So to basically just keep the roadway clear of plastic and garbage, really.

46:57Speaker 3

And that's between drawbridge to drawbridge. No, I'm just,

47:09Speaker 2

Let me know for sure.

47:38Speaker 3

That's an event that.

47:51 – 48:05Speaker 3

Community assist. The ones that I see out there now. Does that go to Harvard that does that?

48:08 – 48:19Speaker 7

I think there's a few different groups, a few nonprofits, organizations. I'm trying to think of the names. I can't think of the names. I know some of them are on the beach, so I'm not sure about here.

48:19Speaker 5

I thought it was something that we were already doing. No, they're on its own.

48:26Speaker 7

But we did once a couple years ago, and we had two organizations collaborate, and they came and collaborated. I think they had their own stuff, and we just let them go.

48:37Speaker 3

Oh, that's a great initiative.

48:38Speaker 8

Pretty sure Pelican of Harvard does it once a month, something like that.

48:42 – 49:06Speaker 4

So there's just a lot of plastic, really. It's mostly the plastic that needs to be addressed. And actually, on Monday, there was a pelican crossing the road right in front of the Pelican of Harvard place, right? So I looked at it and I saw like, wait, there's never been an accident yet. So I walked across the road and all these cars are coming to a screeching halt thinking that it's like me walking in the road, right?

49:07Speaker 4

So now I'm trying to take care of a pelican, yeah. So the Pelican got to the other side, and then it started hissing at me. It started, like, fighting with me. Like, hey, shit.

49:16Speaker 4

I didn't know that. Yeah, so in the end, the Pelican flew away because I went across to the boat station and tried to get help there. But by the time they came, the boat flew away, too.

49:24Speaker 8

So it was just walking across the causeway?

49:26 – 49:38Speaker 4

No, there was something wrong with it. It didn't. It's not well. And they're probably going to. It may have known where the bird station is. It was probably trying to find the bird station. It was on the way, yeah. I'm checking myself in.

49:39Speaker 5

But did you see a bunch of garbage or something like that?

49:42 – 50:11Speaker 4

No, but those are the things that you do see. And that's how these birds get injured, by the way. with all kinds of like netting and sometimes it's what it called fishing line that gets entangled in there yeah so it's just this is around us so it's just a matter of participating in the so I guess well you know on these meetings you can just update us when you have those dates selected and then we can help maybe promote it and yeah um I definitely would volunteer

50:13Speaker 4

I mean, the opinion I take is that it's not a one-time effort. It's a continual thing. So I usually go for a walk in the morning with Michelle. And we try to pick up in the morning as we walk.

50:22 – 50:33Speaker 7

Have you met Anissa Stringer, one of our residents? We gave her the Unsung Hero Award, I think, last year. And she walks on the causeway with the garbage picker. Yeah, I should connect you guys.

50:33Speaker 4

But what gave me the idea was there was a guy once from 360. And he was like working himself to death.

50:41 – 50:53Speaker 4

and he's Spanish, but I stopped him and I asked him like, what makes you do this? And he says, because, and then it made me think like, wow, this is, that guy was really, it was really good.

50:53Speaker 9

Maybe we can do one time events and then, and we can also tell, Hey, you can do continuously this. Yeah.

51:01 – 51:21Speaker 5

Well, I think we just, we start making it a point to be part of one of our like programs or one of our clubs that we do. Like, the run club or tech club or whatever, like let's adopt the present services adopt highway monthly initiative that we do. So if you spearhead that, I think we'd get a lot of people done.

51:21Speaker 8

And the high schoolers need volunteer hours as well. So that might be a way to start getting a group of high schoolers together into other things.

51:33Speaker 4

So that's like secondary points, I think, because it's 934. It's a state road. It runs through North Bay Village. It's not really like part of the village.

51:41 – 53:07Speaker 4

But part of the village that I am very more concerned with is where I live on North Harbour Island and Moda. And so we have a public walkway that goes around Moda and that public walkway is in horrendous condition only because of dog poop, animal waste and things like that. And then all the way down West Drive as well. And I don't know if it's possible for the village to put it on the agenda to do a cleanup offer or power wash. We have a whole dog poop. No, I know the poop feed. So let's say the animal is going to go poop and the owner is going to clean up the poop. But what you're going to get left behind is still waste. that is impossible to clean up and it's unsightly and it's it gets tracked everywhere it gets play there i think that's is that not the modus property well that's so we're gonna so i've heard i've heard that argument so it's modus property but the village has an easement to that goes around the whole property right so like so unless it's something critical then what is going to get involved like a safety issue right they trim the palm trees they maintain the safety but Something like that's cosmetic like that. I thought that since the village is cleaning up Treasure Island, some sidewalks, I saw in the- We pressure clean them. Yeah. And so that's what I'm really referring to is the power washing.

53:08 – 53:20Speaker 4

And I don't mean like really like doing it comprehensively regularly, but if it was done once- It would be great because right now there's a lot of poop, residue of poop that's left behind.

53:21Speaker 8

Poop residue.

53:22 – 54:07Speaker 4

Yeah. And then you could do it perhaps intermittently just sparkling like where the issues were. And this is the same case, by the way, on West Drive. You have to be so careful where you're walking because there is a lot of poop. And let's just say everybody does the right thing and picks up after they poop as well. You still have bird poop. There's a place on West Drive actually the cars are covered in bird poop. Um, so it's really bird poop and then yeah, the dog waste. So, but if a dog has neuro virus or the runs, it's a, it's a disaster. Try clean that up as well. I hate to talk about the subject, but it's a, it's a, it's a messy subject and it's, it is a quality of life issue too, for a lot of people, cuz they have to deal with that. Right. So, yeah.

54:10 – 54:34Speaker 7

We just hired a new public works director. See if there's anything and if they're looking into doing the same, like the power washing of the sidewalks over there. I don't know, but I can ask. Well, we have Tim as well. Have you met Tim? Yeah. His name is Stephen Buckland. Yes. But we can bring Tim into the conversation too, for sure.

54:35 – 55:01Speaker 4

So, and then speaking of that, there is a part of the sidewalk that is being uplifted with the roots. So it's about, let's say about four inches there. And so you can't, you will trip and fall on that. So that's like a safety hazard too. So something like that needs to get addressed as well. I don't know who, again, we're going to go back to both the easements and the property, but it is the public sidewalk that's uplifted.

55:01 – 55:22Speaker 5

That would be out of our purview, I think, on our I think maybe just getting Francois connected with or just noting that with our new public works director. I think the city's always about that stuff anyway, but it'd be good to bring it maybe in an actual commission meeting too.

55:23 – 55:56Speaker 4

So the sidewalk is here, it's this fourth there. And then on the other side of, which is going to be the east side of Moda now, the so right next to the sidewalk there's a curb and that curb collects water in the heavy rains in the rainy season and then the rain just sits there because there's no drainage being provided so um so the drain the drainage if there was a like a French drain it would drain the water away and you wouldn't get things like mosquitoes and it's like a stench that comes out with Steven

56:06 – 56:21Speaker 7

i don't have you know the probably right answers for you but we'll look into it and i can we'll all connect and you know address it i know they're about to pull the public sidewalk on the other on this side by the way so that it connects to the sidewalk on this drive

56:22Speaker 4

And so the issue where the sidewalk is bumped up and like raised like that.

56:26Speaker 7

I'll include Andy too. Have you know Andy Darrow? Yeah.

56:31Speaker 7

Commissioner of Harbor Island. I'll connect you guys and everything and we'll get the conversation going. Yeah. Cause that's walkability is important to him. So.

56:41Speaker 4

Okay. And then the other issue, I'm just making the time. I'm getting out of my charter now because that's the community enhancement board's business.

56:49Speaker 5

Right. We want to stick to stuff that's on the register. Okay.

56:52Speaker 4

Right. But the center meeting of Kennedy Causeway, it's there. Just weeds growing there. It looks so unsightly.

56:58Speaker 3

That's definitely community enhancement.

57:02Speaker 4

So the community enhancement board, invite me to your meeting and I'll participate. We have actually, we have, we have,

57:11 – 57:37Speaker 7

um added you know in there the royal palms um landscaping and we actually did the like a groundbreaking event for it like a photo op um so i don't know if they're the landscaping is i'm not sure where we're at actually so i watched the landscaper last week over there sfm right yeah they parked the truck there and they had three guys and all they did was just like till the soil and then they got back in their trucks and they left they pulled off what is that all about

57:38Speaker 4

It did like really nothing there. I don't know if you guys pay, but productive works.

57:47Speaker 1

This is Frank. Can you hear me?

57:48Speaker 8

Yeah. All right.

57:49Speaker 1

Well, I think for now we're done with our agenda.

57:52Speaker 8

Frank, did you want to say something?

57:55 – 58:25Speaker 1

Well, you know, I've taken notes on the comments that you've made that are more public's work oriented. I can tell you we're going out to bid for another landscaping company. That's number one. Number two, if you can give me a hint where this sidewalk is lifted up, that is a tripping hazard, and we can address that right away. So if you tell me where that's located, or at least the general vicinity, I'll get Timmy out there tomorrow to check it out.

58:26 – 58:44Speaker 4

Okay, so that's the southwest. So it's on the south side of Moda. in the westerly quarter of the building. So it's the part of the sidewalk where you go down toward the water. And that's the southwest. Yeah, southwest.

58:45Speaker 1

Southwest or southeast?

58:47Speaker 4

Southwest, and it's on the south side.

58:50Speaker 1

Okay, I got it.

58:51 – 59:02Speaker 4

It's on the south side, so go towards the water, and you can't miss it. If you were walking there blindfolded, you would trip for sure. I've tripped over there myself, so...

59:02Speaker 1

So this is a sidewalk not on the motor walk, but on our sidewalk outside of that or leading up to the motor walk?

59:10Speaker 4

No, this is the motor. It's part of the island walk, so it's part of motor.

59:15Speaker 1

Okay. Well, that's probably not ours, but we can follow up on it and see who's responsible to fix it.
