So thank you, brother. Welcome to the pre meeting for the November, believe it or not Right. Park and Recreation Board meeting. So first up on the agenda is to receive the park construction project update. I do before we get to that, let me just acknowledge a couple of things because I think it is has been am I allowed to do that? It's been made public about those. So we do, have some so the council has made their appointments and, and reappointments.
No vote on them Tuesday night.
And they did vote on them?
No. They will. This coming Tuesday.
So then maybe I should wait.
I mean, it's it's it's public record now.
It is public record. Mhmm.
So but they so they have made the but it's not official until
It's
not official until they vote. Alright.
Well, so what they propose let's let's put it in those terms. So what they propose will will will be reenacting generally to those terms. That's great news. And then appointing Ashley to a full term, full seat. Right? So the oh, and then nobody else was up reappointment. Right? Okay. Judy? Peggy.
Peggy was up for reappointment. So you got reappointed for another term. Judy did not apply Okay. As you knew, as we announced. So the only sad news in the in this that aside from Judy not applying, which we've already acknowledged, that's the news, was that that Raylene was actually asked to step to another board.
So and so Raylene will be leading the park board, but she won't be going too far away because she'll be going to the Caledono Corporation. Cool. Provided that everything goes the way they're projecting. I do provided that everything goes the way they projected on when they vote on Tuesday. So which is, you know, one thing if you do a good job, you know, you get promoted around this. But so I I would say that that's actually a pretty cool gig. And so, luckily, I get to work with you still in that regard since I sit in that one as well. But and we are so closely associated and we do work hand in glove with JDC. So you're really not leaving us completely. Right.
But we we are gonna miss you having you here and as part of this team.
I miss you guys too.
So so we but I know that they reached out and asked you to be part of that. And so, you know, we we will honor your continued service to the city. And, again, we'll look forward to working with you in that new capacity. So that also means then that we have two new members that will be joining us that will be voted officially on appointed to the park board on Tuesday. So that'll reshuffle the deck a little bit for some of the subcommittee assignments that we talked about last week.
So or not last week, but last month. To that end, we will rethink the the people and, you know, as far as the assignments are concerned for some of the subcommittees. So and then as it goes for December, we started a tradition. Help me. I think this will be third year or third year to do this.
We started a tradition in December at the December meeting where we have a little barbecue and for kind of the end of year. Thank you for serving our city and volunteering in the capacity of the of the park board service that you have done so well. And, also, it's an opportunity to thank members who are gonna be leaving us now to which we didn't anticipate, but now you Judy and Rayleigh, and to welcome our new members. So it's a combination of of two things, welcoming you and and thanking those who'd be leaving us and recognizing and then recognizing, again, everybody's service. So so in December, if you are not going to be able to be part of that meeting, please let staff know and then we'll play an accordion because we wanna order some barbecue and make sure that we have food for everybody.
And so we'll do that at our normal parkour meeting. And so please think though to that, and we will we will carry on that tradition.
And, Felix, it's you might note that Judy is leaving, but she's going to the library board.
Oh, you are? I got my board. Yeah. Didn't even catch
that part. So Yeah. You're not.
That's awesome.
So you're continuing your service. So there you go.
Am continuing my service.
How about that?
Very good.
So yeah. I'm excited.
That's a great
The library is my neighbor. I walk out my back door.
So that's awesome. And the and the and the library being one of the top libraries in the state of Texas. I know. It's such a great story. I like to think a lot of the top they're in Parkland reclamation. So wonderful. So they get to so you're not leaving us either. You're not leaving the city. So that's wonderful. Well,
great. Congratulations.
That's great.
I'm leaving you in my heart though. I love this board. It has just been so so nice.
We're the fun board.
Yeah. We
are. So now somebody new can have the opportunity. Have the fun board. Yeah. The fun with the fun sport.
Right. Well, we appreciate your service to all of you. Both of you. So both both you and Ray. So we look forward to hopefully, you can join us in the at the December meeting. That'll be your last official one with us. And then we'll get the chance to meet our two new board members. Okay. And we'll have a little bit of a celebration. I think the agenda maybe similar maybe similar kind of as far as the
Number 11.
What we have on It's eleven. Yeah. I think that's Isn't that
is my correct
answer? Yes, sir.
Let's see.
Can we know their names yet or no?
Yes. We have them. But it has Berlin. Are we allowed to say that before it's voted
on? Yeah.
I mean, it's it's listed in the It's listed.
If you
it's listed.
It's listed on the, like, the agenda documents if you went through and opened it.
Why don't
you go ahead and just
you can look at it. Say And I mean,
it's free. Yeah. I
mean, this is proposed.
Like said Okay. Let me get and say who's proposed. So I'll
let you
say that.
Nicole Holraw and Luz Rodriguez.
How'd you pronounce the last name?
Holral, h o l l r a l. Okay. I've emailed both of them and told them that, it's planned for Tuesday night and if they can attend to be sworn in. If not, they could do it at the next park board meeting and also set some time aside to come in and let me get them, up to speed on what y'all have been working
on and Got orientation. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. That'll be great.
I haven't heard back yet.
So And if they, again, if they're not gonna be here, I'm not meaning to so they can tell us so we can prepare food wise. Okay. We'll be here. Okay. Alright. So that's that. Let's move on to the first item on the work session, and that's an update from the, for the park construction projects. Cody, I'm assuming that you
Yes. So Sports Park is still going on. 83% complete. All the new facilities are open. They're concentrating now on the water water feature feature and and the the conditioning conditioning for for the the four original baseball fields.
In the December, once the final football things have ended, Football and lacrosse in the December, they will start closing down Line Drive Parkway from the three way stop all the way back to the four Baseball Fourplex. They're also quite what they were really waiting on was to bring in all the gravel for the four infields, a lot of heavy trucks, lot of heavy equipment. Once that's done, the season's end, they will close that road down to traffic and start the overlay, the milling and overlay. Then the January, they'll do all of Sports Parkway from Golden Triangle down
to the
bridge at Chisholm. So there'll be no through traffic. They will work with
From when now? When I think of it Yeah.
We January. What
what what parts and what?
When? So From Sam's?
The No. No. No. I know where.
Oh, okay. The
January 1 like, right after the first, January 5, and they expect it to take four weeks. They will work with the business owners on both sides and with Sam's to give them temporary access. But, yeah, they're they're doing the road all the way to Golden Triangle.
Wow. Yes. That's why we're
up to school every
day. We
to go out.
We are giving you more than a while.
Know. It's two railroad tracks and I have to Oh, that's wrong. That's dicey. That's good. So we're gonna have
to scrap the whole thing. Excuse
me. If you could just
do the whole break. Track.
Silver Spring break.
So when they go on that doesn't interfere with any schedules then? So Mm-mm.
I've reached out to everyone. It it will affect some rentals from Harvest Christian on the soccer field. It may affect lacrosse, but I've told them that if they can park at Sam's and walk Yeah. They can access the field, but there's no ADA connection from that parking lot. Yeah. But getting back to the baseball fields, yeah, that those will all be shut down. And they're baseball and softball are well away, so is football. Yeah. Gotcha. I mean, I've I've kept them all in the Soccer.
No sporting events or they're
trekking will be done.
Pardon me?
I said there's no sporting events or they're just trekking it on foot?
On foot.
Got it.
Yeah.
Yeah. Soccer will be done.
Rentals in during that time then? Yes.
Yeah. We're we're not gonna rent any we've already refunded Harvest Christian for their one in January that's or we've told them that it's probably gonna have to be canceled.
Okay. It's
gonna depend on weather and and schedule once we get out there,
but Okay.
So we're still looking at, February for the the Baseball Fourplex to be complete, and that'll wrap up everything. And then the the interactive water feature is looking towards April. We've had some delays on that. Okay. Hike and bike trail
May I ask a question, I'm sorry, before you go there? Are we still gonna plan on doing ribbon cutting Yes. For the sports park
without the water feature? Well, I'm thinking we'll probably do it in April.
Oh, look at both?
Yeah. It'll they my instructions were they wanted it to be done
Oh, okay.
When we've done it. That I've got some updates on that as well. So since we started the project and now that we're open, we've gotten several people saying we should have this, we should have that. Why why didn't we do this or that? Of course. Some of those came from council members. So so we had a KDC meeting, last week, and we had priced out all of those changes and said, this wasn't in the budget. We do have additional savings in KDC that could potentially cover those cost, or those additions, and they've asked us to fine tune those and bring it back to city council for discussion and possible approval. It includes a restroom by the Legacy Field.
Mhmm.
Just a from anywhere from a two, stall restroom to a full blown eight stall restroom, the prices, change dramatically.
They vary widely. Yep.
Some more sidewalk connectivity, expanded concrete replacement around softball. Can't remember what it Signage, ball, vehicular bollards. We're getting people driving through. Didn't anticipate that, but they think it's the road, and they drive right up to the, in between the fields. And
then surfaces on that one, the change in the surface from the gravel and the concrete there.
The decomposed gravel? Yeah. Decomposed granite to concrete.
Gravel and then Where? And then the cage.
Around the softball.
Around the
softball. The the interior of the complex.
And then The patting cages. That's partly an ADA issue too. Right. Accessibility issue. And the other and then the other part was the cages too.
Batting cages and the old field 17 Yes. Slash Field 12 improvements.
What we can that was kind of apparent when we did the miracle miracle leak.
It looks a lot different when this is side by side. Yes.
That's just still that
it's in the floodplain. Right?
Right. From where we
have to limited on what we can do. Yeah.
Yeah. That's just a little bit of cosmetic stuff.
Right.
It's not much Yeah. Gonna get it. Because you can't really do anything structurally at all to that. No. Okay.
Then hike and bike, Mount Gilead is still under construction. They've got quite a bit poured. I don't know if any you've all had a chance to go by and look at it. If you do, be cautious on Roanoke. It's down to one lane. But they've also started the tree clear out from the end of the trail to Overton Ridge and starting on that portion, in the next few weeks. Cool. Playground shade at the point should be here at the end of this month. He didn't tell me how long it would take to install, but he said it's supposed to ship out November 20. It'll probably be after Thanksgiving before they get that up.
And then Chase Oaks, I do have a cost for shade structure. It's just the rectangular. There's it is on the screen. It matches the other one. It's just four post, rectangular structure and oh,
wrong one. Matches which other one?
Well, it it matches the other shade structures in the park. Okay. And it would just cover the the main play area, not the swing sets. And that's within budget. He's recommending green. That's what the other ones are, or the other one by the seating area. And if y'all are good with that, I can put it on the next council I put on this first council agenda in December.
Think it's what we talked about. Right. So we're not said we wanted to do it. Right?
Right. This was in the this was in the KDC budget for this year. And now that he's got the one from last year, the the point starting to wrap up, I wanted to get this one in as soon as possible before pricing's change or tariffs change or anything like that.
Okay. Anybody have any issue there? Mm-mm. What's I was pretty surprised when the posts are huge at a job. I mean, I could really
It's because the the point playground is very tall and one of those posts had to be 22 feet. Jeez. And so it had to be that wide to support the wind load.
Pretty deep. I was really surprised when we were I mentioned to Jay when we were over there. The park ground, I was like, Wow. Yeah. Yeah. And those are
Once the shade's on, I think the the post will kinda blend in and it'll make sense what it is. But, yeah, they were kinda shocking at first. And Shane warned me about that. He goes, you're gonna have a 22 foot post. No. It's all playground. Yeah.
So these are not gonna be anywhere near that scale?
He has eyes that's
a good question.
I I do have a question about Okay.
Column size is twelve by twelve. So your upper left.
Up here at the top?
Yeah. It's called size twelve by twelve by it was in '23.
I'm asking
That's the sixteen.
Oh, the normal length for the same height? He probably twenty two. Wow. Yeah. Kinda hard to I mean, still substantial, but it's good.
Right.
And looking at this playground, it looks like there's a bench just off to the side. Are these columns at the true corners?
Not necessarily. I mean, we've if we need to relocate benches, we can easily do that.
Okay. That'd be something I'd, like, just toy with
coming out
the cost. I feel like in talking with people about Johnson Road Park that came up, they're like, my kids are in the shade, but I'm holding baby. And baby and I are not in the shade.
Gotcha. Gotcha. Okay.
I think any opportunity to get some parental sun coverage too is a nice win.
Did did we move the benches that were closer to this
the sidewalk? We moved something a few years ago.
It was too close to the road on this playground.
Well, we I mean, we relocated the playground because
it's That's what we moved the whole we moved the whole thing. We moved the whole thing over the back.
And just took the old playground area and made it a covered
seating area. That's what it was. Okay. We moved the whole thing.
I like that the picture's showing it's throwing shade off the playground. Yeah. There you go.
Okay. Good. Any questions? Alright. What's next?
That's it for a project.
Oh, talking about trails. The one going around the older baseball fields, is it gonna
go up? Are they still working on it?
Yes. They'll they'll complete that.
Okay. They'll probably get finished with the fields and then do
that? Right. Yeah. They were they were jumping to more pressing items.
Okay. Yeah. We spent a lot of
coyotes there. My husband walks every morning. He's been followed by coyotes, like, three or four times in the last couple homes. I guess. Or they're They have no idea. That
What's the Park. The parking lots, the the the two that were in the mix, are they in the sports park? They they were in you know, we had those in the mix the last couple of construction updates. Those are all done?
Yes. All parking lots are done.
They're done.
Yep. They've all been approved. Okay.
So any other updates on construction? Nope. Nope. Okay. Alright. Let's go subcommittees. I'd I'd like to I know we've got an update for from the trail, so let's start with that. And then I'll then I'll talk about subcommittees in general after that. So you wanna take the lead there, Yeah.
My lead is gonna be introduction of my fellow subcommittee members to talk about our subcommittee's had an exciting couple of three weeks. We wanna report about that. I think Ashley's gonna lead.
So on November 4, we took a road trip. Cody was nice enough to print out the map with updates and some numbers on about 20 of the trail for us to look over the current state of what they connect to, what their the history is on, what has or hasn't been done there. And so we drove around and took notes about the value we thought the trail might add or the any recommendations or thoughts we had. And we compiled all of those. And one of the main items we noted was that several of the trails would most likely happen in partnership with public works because the most effective and efficient time to add a trail or an enhanced sidewalk, whatever the case may be, is when the big heavy equipment is already there to redo the road.
And so Jay suggested that the next most logical step be that we meet with public works and get some insight on what their timelines were for these roads. Because our assumption going into the meeting was that when we were prioritizing our recommendations that we would generally defer to them on if that road doesn't need to be updated for five more years. Well, then that's kind of if we were excited about that trail, we'd respectfully wait until it was time on the road as well to be most cost effective. And so he went into that meeting really just expecting to ask for his insights on the condition of these roads and their timeline based on what he knew today. And we went into that meeting with that thought, and we came out with a really great conversation with Alonzo from Public Works.
We covered the upcoming road projects, the ADA transition plan, the city sidewalks, and the trail network, and a shared goal of a cohesive, safe, accessible way for residents to travel through Keller on foot or bike or whatever the case may be. And so we talked about the two groups partnering together on that shared vision, and Alonza made some great recommendations regarding kind of taking a step back and assessing why we're here, what does success look like for updating our plan, and what are we trying to accomplish as opposed to just ranking those 20 trails or potentially eliminating some that that we think bigger than that and with a agreed to methodology in mind. And so that was exciting. He made some suggestions based on his past experience about considering more than just the previous trail plan strategy of being able to connect east to west and north to south and do kind of like a spider web out from town center to considering also concentric circles so that people who can't or don't want to travel quite as far from home can make a loop and get back to their house without going back and back in again.
Considering ADA compliance and safety, of course, our shared goal, I think, between all of us was, of course, always considering those points of interest like Town center, the library, the sports park, the future development of Center Stage. Mhmm. And and so when we talked with him, we got some great insights about some trails that we had maybe been undervaluing, and he helped kind of energize the potential in some of those trails for us, like Melody Lane getting to Overton and connecting up to the trail that's being built now and that enhanced sidewalk. And then a trail neighboring Melody Lane that would kind of create a foothold for that Northeast Side of Keller, which currently doesn't have trails or many sidewalks unless there's a recently developed neighborhood there. So we came away with we need to establish an official vision so that we can partner better with him if we all agree What our vision is in a couple of points it can help him help us we can partner together
Guys we kind of left with more questions. It's a great meeting
because it inspired us. But yeah, we went in thinking, oh, we just need to make sure the map is correct, and maybe there's a few segments that we would be willing to downgrade to a sidewalk or you know, what can we do depending on what Public Works is gonna work on. We were kind of ready to just explore those options. And he opened the door for so much. Prioritize Based on him.
Based on him, and he
Well, good.
Left us with some of the questions. And maybe some of the things that we did like like Ashley said, undervalue, we have as low priority. They're now maybe maybe becoming one of the top priorities.
I don't know. But that's
where we're coming to you guys Yeah. Is we have some questions that
we need to think about. Okay.
So let me ask you one question just to sort of frame continued discussion. How did they I've always been kind of curious, and we we did a session with them a while back, but how do they master plan? So you know we sit and we have this trip plan, right? And we talk about our you know thoughts and you went in with this you know sort of plan that you wanted to update and enhance, but and is Alonso a committee of one, or how does he do his planning? How does he master planning?
And I was how did they look at you know, they've got the sidewalk enhancement project that's going on. They've got the ADA deal, and then they've got the safe path to schools piece that's kind of tied to both projects. But how do they are they are they is it all staff that's sitting in there kind of master planning this? Or how often are they are they revisiting their plan? And how do they do it?
Yeah. We didn't we didn't give answers to that. We did I think Alonso he didn't say it like I'm about to say it, but a lot of street improvement is community comment driven driven. Yeah. And so for him to to really embrace our vision that we should look at the hike and bike trail in a way that it is achieving some lofty goal.
Likewise, he he wants to develop streets in a very similar fashion. So but and it all comes back to being able to create a vision council that drives a plan that achieves a goal. And to Ashley and point, all of those are questions that we had not pondered at this point. We the subcommittee for the last couple of months had been operating on a charge by counsel to assess whether or not we really need more trail development. And so we were just operating off the existing master plan and intended to rank over those 20 trails that are currently on the master plan.
This changes that that charge to work with streets to come up with a uniform vision for streets and pedestrian pedestrian traffic. Traffic.
Do you guys have another meeting scheduled for the ones up?
Not yet. Not yet. He's he's asking us to answer answer those three questions or bring a a proxy for what the answer to those three questions are so that we can combine our thoughts. And then at some point in time, present to counsel with a with an overarching vision.
It's very exciting.
So what are the three questions again?
So he's proposed that we assess why we're here. Like, what are what are we trying to do? What is success in that goal look like? And then what are we trying to accomplish? He'd also said something about I can't remember.
That those were the three he restated restated specifically, specifically. But basically, we need to present something concrete and measurable, and it's something that he can hold on to so that we can partner together and ensure we're on the same page. Like, is it the spider web plan and why? If if it's different than the spider web plan created with the original hike and bike trail plan, why? Like, what's and why is that new vision success? Yeah. So that we can partner together and be successful.
He did mention getting in front of the development too instead of chasing it. So I'm trying to lead it. Yep.
So the way that you would do that is you would have to increase the population's recommendation for improved roads in that area would be the his main driving factor? If that's what it sounds like if if his driving factor is community driven, community driven.
How do you Okay.
You know, so how do you you know, so you got
the UDC. Right? So you've got you've got some mandates that come out of that. And and and then you don't always know what the nature of the development will be. Right? And then there's some choices that they get to make when they when they come in. So developer may and we you know, we're we don't have a whole lot left that that's that's Wide down. Slate, you know. So there's there's only so
much you can do with
what open tracks we have left. But what how do you get ahead of it? How do you kind of come in and say, we we want this here? Are you risk does that restrict the development to is that is that then restricting whatever future development can go into the open?
I think when generally says development she means the redevelopment of existing roads not a planned development coming in now that being said if I'm not saying we're proposing this, but hypothetically, if we went along with or incorporated his suggestion of concentric circles, and we added additional trails. Like, we did take some away because we realized they don't they don't make sense. I'm not saying we're doing that. But say we took some trails away and added some trails. If that trail is where a new development pops up and the city has then approved that trail.
My understanding is that would be discussed as a part of the PD. The developer and the developer has, as I've mentioned in meetings in the last years, there have been developers that have removed the trail from their quadrant or or made alternative proposals or set money aside that there's they still get to discuss the trail, but it's it's a part of the discussion. Right? If the trail's there. If we don't put a trail on that street, then when they propose their PD, they're gonna put a sidewalk wherever they're required to put a sidewalk. And then we've missed our chance to ask them to do a trail.
So We we don't have
an answer to this yet, but we're getting closer. An epiphany, I think, for the subcommittee was there are instances where a sidewalk would Mhmm. Mhmm. Don't always need a trail. The what we're about to complete, the really cool trail along Mount Gilead, probably could have been a sidewalk.
Yeah. Or an enhanced sidewalk. Definition is something between 12 foot and and four foot, which is what we now have going up. Yep. So it just the meeting this week with Alonzo really opened our eyes to additional opportunity that might allow us to think more broadly and be closer to funding that might come from the refurbishment of Keller Smithfield between the node and up to the east.
Mhmm. Those are opportunities that may, in my mind, create an opportunity to be to make a compelling presentation to counsel that there's more to be done versus the question of that we were answering from two months ago, which is do we really need more? Yeah.
I think another thing that came up along these lines that's interesting was, you know, we'd say, okay. Yeah. Set aside the budget every year. Save it up until you have enough for the next trail that's number one on the list. One of the things he pointed out was that, you know, we answer these questions.
We we get everybody in alignment on what those answers are. We share it with counsel. We get their feedback. But one of the things we also consider is that some of it is easement acquisition. So some of not all that money goes to pouring concrete and redoing drainage or whatever the case may be, but a reminder that maybe the next couple of years we're not build we're not building that trail.
We're laying the groundwork on paperwork for that trail by tightening up that section, which is one of the things, of course, that came up with some of those small segments where one property is the difference between connecting the trail today. So so what's the next step? I think, correct me if I'm wrong, it's our subcommittee will work on the answers to Alonzo's questions, make sure we're in alignment on what he thinks would be valuable for us to be on the same page about and share those questions with you guys for you to think about them so that the whole board is in agreement before we go any farther. Because we, as a subcommittee, what we felt like we were empowered to research and work on, if this is expanding it, then we wanna make sure we're all on the same page about what that scope expansion means. That we're all comfortable.
We've considered everybody's ideas. Gotcha. Like, do you all so you'd be thinking, do you want north, south, east, west? Do you want concentric circles? What is and why?
So the subcommittee is intending to commit prior to the December part board meeting to communicate to all the board members what a starter point for the answer to the three questions. Deliberate it in December. If we finalize it, then take that to Alonzo and public works, get their input, make any necessary changes, and then at some point, some future date, make a combined presentation accounts. Okay?
That sounds good. I think to make that December meeting effective then for those of us that are not sitting on a subcommittee a subcommittee, then I think we should be thinking about those three questions too. Gotcha. So I think we if you haven't written them down, you should write them down. Why are we here?
What we're trying accomplish.
What is the what, you know, what is success? And then what are we trying to accomplish? And write your own answers to that. So when you come in and listen to the subcommittees, then you can kind of give some direct feedback. But I think that's great. And it sounds like you guys had some very productive time together there. So appreciate your work. One other question I would have too is, you know, I think of it in terms of, you know, coming from, you know, from a business side to us from product mix. And I think about, you know, alluded to sidewalk versus trail versus enhanced sidewalk. Yep.
So so is that part of the exercise too is maybe redefining what the mix a little bit? Is that is that also what we're talking about? Like, are we are we gonna stick with what what we are are recalling? You know, what we've defined so far, or is it is that open for discussion too?
I think if I'm correct me if I'm wrong, I think some of the terms are divine defined by bodies that felt funded or give grants and things like that. So I don't think we get to change the definitions, but we can change where we were willing to put those things. So if it may be the plan said we want trail, but we look there and say, an enhanced sidewalk, whatever the definition is from regulating bodies, we're comfortable with that piece there.
So is that accurate?
I know ADA dictates certain things.
Yes. I mean, there's certain sizes that it has to be specifically. Yeah. Public works has changed their, minimum to five foot, for a sidewalk. TxDOT on their grant process, they really want a 12 foot.
For what?
For trail.
For trail. For trail. Yeah.
Part of the not concerned, but part of the discussion item on the plan is that we have existing sidewalks that call to be trails. Well, do we need that? Or is the sidewalk sufficient? Yeah. And I mean, that's Yeah. Is it a duplication of efforts? Or if it's if money's no object, then let's make them all trails.
But Right.
If we're trying to make connections as fast as we can, it might be might need to reconsider some of
those. Gotcha.
And there are sections that have sidewalk like, when we drove, there are sections that say, you know, trail on the hypothetically, north side, but both sides have sidewalks. Yeah. And our general thought as we were driving around was sidewalks on both sides Yep. Is trail like because then it you're not crossing people necessarily.
Mhmm. But
there is a funding piece to it on how, you know, some of these connectivities get funded such as the Mount Gilead because I think some of that was on the size of it is
due to funding.
Yeah. But mhmm. Right.
Great. Any other questions for the subcommittee? Great work.
Good work.
Yeah. Good work. Out. Great job, Raul. So how many hours would you say you guys between those two meetings did you throw at that effort?
The meeting with Alonzo was supposed to be thirty minutes, and Cody and Alonzo were nice enough to give us, like, an hour and fifteen, twenty minutes. Like, no. You gave an hour and thirty because you were like, we made you five minutes into your next meeting. So, yeah, we thought, oh, we'll just tell them the six roads that we overlap with their projects on and find out is this road scored a zero or five and Are you doing it in five years and he just inspired us to have Yeah.
A much broader You tell me.
You know, we're like, what?
Well, that's to get back to your original question, Felix. From my observation of public works is they they do a lot of consensus building through all of their staff, but they typically have a consultant lead the process. So this ADA transition plan had individuals from every facility in the city plus several staff members from public works and planning.
So they do have
a pretty big team
with them?
Yeah. But then they've got a consultant that's leading
Yeah. Tech consultant too.
Yeah. Which is what, if you recall, what we did with the trail plan when I first got here in 2015. You know, we're wrapping it up when I got here.
Could you give one of those to Cody, please? Yes.
And Alonzo was so gracious in his time and his passion, and he just seemed genuinely excited Yeah. To meet with us and work with us and talk about the trails as part of this concept. It was it was really eye opening. It was
it was pretty cool.
Well, that's that's great stuff. And I know that I I really applaud your efforts. So thank you guys for doing all that. So, just proof that this, subcommittee thing has to lay. So to that end, we'll go to the next piece of this.
So, so last time when I I wrote up these definitions since the you know, we're kinda we're the we're the board that's, you know, testing this model. I left off the one which was this the sports park oversight, so I've added that back. Don't be too hung up on the the literal definitions here because those can be a little bit fluid, but they're just giving you an idea of what the subcommittee's responsibilities or the intent for the subcommittee that what that is. You will see that the names of the players are gonna have to change for because we have some transitioning now. So the first two are pretty well set.
So trails and sports park oversight are good. When we move to seniors, senior fair, senior center optimization, that's where the committee gets blown up a bit because Judy and Raylene now are leaving us based on the council appointments. So, Tom, I have you stepping in Mhmm. To do for Judy. Raelene, I had not anticipated based on the new appointment.
So we're gonna have to I'm gonna have to think about that one for a little bit. So Judy, I'll I'll circle back with you. But that's part of the reason why I said don't get too anxious because I knew that the council was doing it. I just didn't anticipate they were gonna mess with this on that one. But, you know, I I also think though that there'll be some carryover maybe that that might be able to, you know, when you you move over to KBC that there might be some things that that we could talk about there as well.
The Johnson Road Park Playground at one thing that has occurred since the last time I put this out is that Caitlin is asked if she could move over to that particular committee and with Ashley. And I think that that committee will that'd be great if you're willing to do that. And then I think one of our new members, would like to actually have broke into that. I believe that at least one of the two new members have young children. So I think that would be a nice fit for that committee.
The Park Pavilion and amenity rentals. So, Raelene, you were leading that show there. So that's gonna be so now that I'm gonna end up being a committee of one on that one. So I'm gonna rope a couple of you into that, and then I'll take the lead on that one. Then the last one is this North Park Northeast Park division subcommittee that is basically, early on in early in the Genesis there.
That one's fine. So that one we're not messing with. So so, you know, give me a little bit of time to chat with Peggy, I'll chat with you outside of this meeting. One thing that you'll see on the senior center on the senior affairs and senior center optimization. So Tom and you John and Peggy. So the senior center survey, which I I think we might have some guests in the room that might have some interest in that.
I've got I've got a little bit of information.
Yeah. We do. Yep. Yeah. So Peggy and I met. So you you've met on And I think so the survey is completed. Right?
It's just well, go go ahead.
Go ahead. We went over there and we sat down with with Mike. Okay. And the thing is he didn't receive a survey. No. I did not receive a survey as members. So it was found
I know you
didn't. Did you
get one?
No. No. I don't either. And so it was found that they did not put out all the surveys. They only did
hear from this gentleman that he didn't get one either.
So Oh, okay. Well
Just a just a little birdie told
me. Yeah.
We we went through that. And Mike has managed now to have at least 500 responses now. Whereas we were what? 200 or something like that?
Yeah. But it wasn't
Yeah. So extended they extended the deadline.
Yeah. Originally, it was gonna be from the fourteenth to the October 31. That's fine. Which is a two week survey. They've extended it till the November 15. Right. Okay. So they've extended it a few couple of weeks to get some more responses out of 2,200 members so far. I have 200 2,200 members.
We've got about 500 responses. That's great response rate.
I think so. 20 a little over 25%.
It's huge.
It's a little under yeah.
It'd be 20 Yeah.
But it was just kind of nice that it just Yeah. General conversation that it came up, and we realized we had a a problem that he needed to go back to the surveyor. That was not And get this straightened out.
Right. There could be another issue
with You were very helpful. Thank you. In discovering that. So and Yeah. Well, I I appreciate that. So I think it was a glitch in the
So in the vendor that's performing at on point, they do our citizen survey as well. We gave them all of the members' email addresses. And they after Frank pointed it out to us and we looked and saw, they did some research and found out that for some reason, it was not going to anybody with a Yahoo email account.
Well, I've got Verizon. It didn't go with me.
Yep. So so that's when we extended it and Mike started pushing it out verbally and through signage
What do
you mean?
In the senior center to where we're not just relying on email addresses. So now Like,
the older systems, Verizon and AOL are older.
They are.
Yeah. Still. Yeah. Hotmail. Yeah.
It's No. A 100%. Yes.
Yeah. So if I understand correctly now, there's other methods with QR codes and things like that where people can walk up.
There is another issue with it. So it's been sent out about five times. And if you get it five times, you can take the survey every
time. Mhmm.
That's another issue with it. So there's no way to change it. So you see what I'm saying? So if it's sent out five times, you've got it five times, and you could take the survey every single your profile and your
email information on it, can they call that up? No. I'd have to ask the
It didn't it didn't set up.
That's a question we need to ask the survey company. That's I
talked to Michael today about it. He said it doesn't read your IP address.
Yeah. I think we discussed this before the survey went out that they could potentially submit a response more than once. Yeah. Because it is an anonymous survey.
It is.
Now is it a lengthy enough survey?
It is a long survey.
You would realize Depends
on how you answer.
So so if you If you answer
not a member. It's a really short survey.
No. Wait. So if you and I've got the survey right here. So if you ask, it asks you if you participate in different things. And if you click yes, then it goes to a different just continues on. Do you like dominoes? Do you like working puzzles? Do like playing cards? Do you like pickleball? So if you click that you don't do anything, you're
done. Alright.
So it's it's I've got it right here for everybody who wants
to take a look
at But it We all should have it
in your email. It was sent out to everybody. So you can go in and take it. You can take this over and see if you go on practice. And you don't it doesn't submit. I mean, was you can go in and kinda look at it and and test it. Yeah. Or maybe you shouldn't do that now because now it'd be No. It's it's hard. Don't do
it. Yeah. Yeah.
Because you're actually taking it.
I I tested it when. I think
he said two. Yeah.
Mhmm. So I met with Michael today about it, and he said, I think it goes to fifteen.
Well, so now we feel like we got a better sample and we're it's still open and I guess we're still pushing it to
to Yeah. Because as of Tuesday, he was talking to me about that and he said that he thought he had at least 500 more and he thought a few more will be coming in. And I kinda thought he was gonna be here tonight, but not. But he said that he would do all of this wrap up with next week or
next December. In December,
me will have all the results. Okay. And his year end report will be also week.
Okay. So you guys will have a chance maybe to meet physically. Will. We'll get a chance to meet with him and distill some of that information.
We will. Was
gonna
ask anyhow.
I think you're calling me yet.
How many? Originally, we had in the first two weeks, it was gonna just run for two weeks. We had less than 200 Yeah. Results. Then we decided That's why it was not getting all to third that. Yeah. Everybody said yes.
Didn't go well.
Yeah. So it was a a a problem with
the delivery.
Yeah. Okay.
So the I think that the so so then we'll just count on December being a time where you guys are gonna report out, see what we found, still some of the information, and then we'll start talking about recommendations from there.
Is that
really what the intent? The I guess, you know firsthand since you've been over there, but I guess they're so these last couple days and these closing days, they're they're they're pushing to to get additional as many people to to participate. I guess the only question remaining is to the survey company since they're not looking at the IP Mhmm. Is there any way to is there any way to make sure that the Filter all people.
See, I thought there was because
If not, Frank's gonna put in 40 different surveys. I've done Because when they do
I honestly think the the idea of someone putting in more than one survey is so miniscule. Can't exactly. Most of them, they have to twist them twist them
by the neck to give them the 51. Yes.
I think that aspect is probably so minuscule. It's not even a deal. Well Yeah.
Because you stopped you stopped at 402.
Not really. I didn't want.
But it is a fairly lengthy
It is a lengthy can be. Can be. See,
I was on the impression that they knew would know if you did more than one. So I think most people think that
It'll keep people honest.
Well, know, have a large television audience. That's what
I'm saying.
Now they know. We're into the ones.
So so okay. Well, that's, you know, that I think you're right, Frank. I think that's true. And I think that they for the most part, there's gonna be integrity in that. I'm happy that the sample group has grown to the point where it's truly a representative sample.
So, you know, I think that we'll we'll be looking forward to, you know, to to seeing what the the survey pushes through. And, again, I think that, again, the idea is to, you know, the the the mission behind that is to really look at the utilization and and best path forward. And so the the rubber's gonna meet the road when you guys have that those results back, and then we're starting to figure out, you know, the recommend just kinda like these these folks have done the research and the recommendations that they're making. You you will be tasked with the same. So I will do my best to make sure that you have another member here to join you.
I think that might be a little tough to throw one of the newest people into that mix. Yeah. But but That's fine. Because it might scare them away. But but but we'll we'll talk about that.
Anything else from
from your I think
that's it on the Okay. So you drink two
Do have any more any more classes before the end of year? Are you throwing
We have one more on next Tuesday. It's on the Bill of Rights. The
lady is it's
a two part. And she before I took her other class, she had another one that was on the constitution, which I think was three or four classes. She's very, very good at what she does, very much into it, and very informative. I mean, it's amazing. And things that you didn't realize all is there. So yeah. So I think that's the end is next week. I
was asked when I was telling somebody about these classes. And I know you've mentioned before you've done some of the stuff on the on IT side and, you know, someone asked about cybersecurity and and if there was anything in the horizon around that. And and just there's a whole new there's a whole new push, especially on my side or my professional side from HIPAA, you know, with HIPAA compliance. There's there's a new some new nefarious activity going on that that we're and you probably are very well aware of this. Because you're dealing with it too in your world.
And so our compliance attorneys are all over this right now, but they're targeting seniors in some of this activity. And so I didn't, you know, I didn't they were I was asked if there was any of any of that gonna be in the in your subject matter in some of the upcoming classes. So it might be something we talk about. I'll I'll share some of the information with the NSA Yeah.
Because I resources. I They probably should talk to the the director Jordan, which I have a good rapport with him. Because kickoff is the January for the next year. There's a lot going on there.
Yeah. It's it's it's an interesting it's very it's very interesting and and kinda TCU is plot Unsettling stuff.
We've had a lot of attacks, like Yeah. In very intentional. Yes.
Yeah. And it's all it's it's very you know, it's really kind of setting setting it's more or less the tax are more or less on on health care entities like yours and on ours. But but at the same time, the seniors are getting tied into that too. So Mhmm. So we'll come back to you. I'll I'll throw some information out there. Maybe we can see if they can get done in the next. Mister chair? Yes.
Well, then I'm gonna ask the lady at TCU too if they haven't had any problems. Because they're getting fired up too.
I was Can we pause the agenda? For second? Sure.
Pausing the agenda. Oh, the door shutting or pausing the agenda? Oh, yes.
Don't be aligned with the door shutting. That's a separate thing during cyber.
So the cardboard wanted to recognize the seminal event coming up. So we got a little can't have food in council chambers. That's it.
Coming here and eat.
Yeah. Right. That's fine. That's what y'all want. But that's thank you
very Appreciate
that. So yeah. So we have any other committee? Thanks for No. I think
that I have a quick update. Well, have
a Yes. Okay.
Go out there. This Saturday or sorry. Friday, November 21, there is a food and pet supply and hygiene kit drive going on here.
What? So
we got
food. Oh,
pet Sorry.
It's a pets as food.
We Yeah. It's a food
drive, pet supply, and hygiene kit and toys. Basically, it's a holiday drive that's being put on by Abhijee Keller. It's my kid's school, so I'm shamelessly plugging in. But this they are tasked every six weeks. They do something different, and this is their time to give back to community and to learn about altruism. That is kind of their core subject right now. So my daughter, in addition to some others, are putting on a drive here at town It's a Friday, and it is at from 10AM to twelve. So it's tough. Just two hours. But But they're hoping to collect stuff because they're putting together kits for four organizations.
Hands of Hope, Mercy Cares, HSNT, and Hope for Kids. And so like my daughters in particular for kids leaving the home, they're creating go packs so that these kids have like stuff that they need when they have to go into a different home to travel with them. Gotcha. The idea and intention is just to give back to our community in a way where these kids can do something tangible and benefit others in our community. So it's all staying local. But it's here, town hall the twenty first from ten to twelve.
Kids pitch water appeals?
Mhmm. Mhmm. Crazy.
Because different kids picked different agenda items. So that's why we have the four different subgroups depending on which kids organization they are trying
to elect for. That's awesome. Yes.
That's twenty first.
Twenty first.
Ten to
twelve here at town hall.
Alrighty. Cool. Any any other updates from
I have a subcommittee update.
Okay. Oh, what?
For Johnson Road Park Playground. Cody, correct me if I'm mistaken, but at next council meeting
Tuesday night.
You'll be sharing the survey, the concept of the survey and the questions with them to get their input or blessing. And since that is the meeting where we'll be instilled in our new committees or or reappointed, I told Cody if he didn't mind, I would sit back here and be ready to answer questions or Yep. Champion it. Perfect.
That's great.
It's good.
That way we can kick off that. My hope, if they're supportive of it or once we get their feedback, would be, of course, in the newsletter, whatever Rachel recommends for promoting it. But I hopefully, maybe QR codes and the well traveled playgrounds, especially that one. So that people can take our quick survey, and we can get their thoughts before we get too far along on design.
That's awesome. Anybody else? I'm sorry. I'm looking I was looking at dates on the calendar here. So anybody else? Two. I I do have a little t o two that, Again, this year, we're doing wreaths across America. So as you know, we do that at the Mount Gilead Cemetery and added last year the Borland Cemetery as well. Mount Gilead Cemetery is sold out as far as the wreaths for the veterans graves there. But still need more for Borland, but also volunteers too.
People are interested. So I know the park board has kinda contributed and helped out with stuff like that before, mostly run by Lucas funeral home and and the rotary clubs in here. But
How do you donate?
I actually have a link for you if you're interested. I can I can I can share that with you? So we can just see just talk to them before you leave, but it's it's cool. And the reefs are are really, you know, it's a special thing. And then so, and then coming out there that day and that week What day is this? I I'm it's not
I'll give you that before we
I have it's really kinda messed up because this is the national site, so I'll give you our local date. But it's a it's a it's a
I believe it's the thirteenth
of the That's that's
right. Yeah.
Just yeah. I didn't wanna say that incorrectly here because this has got the national date done. I thought we'll get
it we'll get it to you.
But it's, it's really neat. We'll get the absolute email that everybody got us. Yeah. We'll send out some I know a lot of some people participated last year. It's it's a new deal. Alright. So that reaches the end of our agenda for for the pre meeting. So I will entertain a motion to adjourn. So moved. I do have a second. Second. All in favor? Aye. Aye. We are adjourned.
I'll k. We will call to order the November session of the park and recreation board meeting. First up on the agenda is persons to be heard. This is the time for the public to address the board on any subject. However, the Texas Open Meetings Act prohibits the board from discussing issues which public has not been given three business days notice.
Issues raised may be referred to city staff for research and possible future action. Do we have have anything you wanted to if you could just even though I don't think you're a stranger to anybody in the room, but if you could just please introduce yourself and step up the mic here for us. And I don't know why the microphone is over there like that, but if you could just introduce yourself and your address, and then we can the floor is yours for the clock is here. So
Frank Roselle, 2230 Union Church Road, Keller, Texas. And I really wasn't planning on speaking, but I thought I would take the opportunity for two things. Number one, they have a request, and number two, to kinda give you an update. The request is that a ball in any sports is important, a basketball, tennis ball, whatever. The quality of the ball affects the play.
When we first started out as senior citizen center, the balls were supplied, and they were quality balls. That's practice has ceased. So now everybody's supposed to bring a ball. I guess, no one's ever told us officially. But I guess Michael made a study, and I asked him what the study revealed. He said, well, we lose about three balls a week. I said, really? I said, how many players we got? Oh, about 40. So they're playing four to five hours a day.
So roughly 200 players, and if that calculates eight hundred hours, so we lose three balls a week. That's $9 $36 a month, $895 a year. I said it's not in the budget to do that. He said, I don't know. I'll examine it.
I haven't heard anything, but anyway, supplying us balls has stopped, creates a kind of havoc with who's gonna supply the balls, who's gonna go get one, when they're gonna start to play. I would tell you in Watauga where where I play, also in North Richland Hills, they all supply balls. So I'm asking that somewhere in the budget, Cody, if you can find it, we'd appreciate it if you would supply the seniors with the balls just I don't think it's that much expense, and it stops a lot of havoc just playing the game. That's one thing. The other thing is I'd update you on the what we tried to do because I go to the Keller Point virtually every day, and basically, I see the gym virtually unoccupied from about nine to two during a week.
So we tried to thanks to some people getting our heads together, tried to have a situation where seniors were allowed to play two hours one day a week at no charge, kind of like a reciprocity because Keller Point uses senior citizen center. I think Saturdays for tournaments, Wednesday nights for practice, and Monday nights for practice. I counted it up one time. There's something like 2,700 girl volleyball players that go through senior citizen in a year's time. So we thought the reciprocity idea was good.
We ran into a conflict where basketballers were trying to play at the same time, pickleball players were trying to play, and it was in a safe condition. So they dropped the net, eliminating the pickleball and reducing it to one court. So now we got one court to play on two hours a week, and there's raised confusion. Advanced people don't wanna play with intermediates, so but there's only one court. They won't mix it.
So for the last two weeks, no one showed up to play. And I'm just advising you as to what's happening to the experiment. And that's all I'm here for.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Frank. As we said, we will take those issues up with staff. I'm aware of the last issue you raised. The first one was new. So we will chat with Cody and Michael about that. And we will follow back up with you with some responses directly. So thank you. And thanks also too for your tenacity with the survey, so and bringing that to our attention.
So and so we hopefully will get a lot of good responses here with the extra participation and December's meeting should be interesting. We'll be able to distill some of that information at that time. So thank you, sir. Alrighty. I'm going to entertain at this time a motion to consider the approval of the minutes from the October meeting.
Motion to approve.
I have a motion to approve. Do I have a second? I have a second. Do any discussion? No discussion. I'll entertain a motion to approve all in favor. Aye. Any opposed? Okay. The October minutes are approved. We'll move to item D, which is staff announcements.
Good evening, everyone. I have one quick update. On Saturday, December 6, TKP is going to be hosting their annual Breakfast with Santa. So if you want to come out and give your wish list to the big guy, he's going to be on-site this year with Not me anymore. What's that? With with FNG closing, unfortunately, they've passed the torch to DeVivo Brothers, so they'll be the ones catering the the breakfast. So that's really all we got going on for December. Don't know, Judy, are you gonna be there again this year? Doing the the serving and everything? Awesome.
So What time does that start? It starts at eight and goes all the way till noon. So there, we just have different time slots, eight, nine, ten, and eleven. If you wanna drop by during any of the time, feel free. We're not needing any help by any means, but feel free to stop by and check it out. It's typically a pretty full event. Normally, it's sold out, so it's an event we look forward to every year. But other than that, just a quick membership update. Looking at our numbers now, we have about 100 more members than we did last year at this time, which is good. So we've been able to retain some folks.
Don't have the exact numbers, but I quickly looked, and we're hovering about 100 more members than we were last November at this time. So, not too bad, feeling pretty good about that. But other than that, that's really all I have this evening. Does anybody have any questions?
I have a real quick question. Yes, sir. Any other input on the new benches we got back there, the new?
Well, we've had a pretty overwhelming response. From what I've heard, everybody has enjoyed them. Had a few people, not so much, but the positives have outweighed the negatives,
I'm which is sorry. What was that, Tom? I didn't hear you.
There was some equipment. The benches, the bench presses, the new ones, it seems to be if you're not six foot tall, it's tough to get And to catch that top hook.
Yeah. We've had a few people bring that up to us, Felix. And what we did, we went back to the to our supplier, our our and just asked what what you know, is this a normal thing? And he assured us that, unfortunately, the way that they build all of the equipment, you're going to be pretty close to that across the board. So we looked into some of that to see if there was any changes that could be made. But for the most part, these are the same pieces of equipment you're going to see at any gym.
we took that into you know, we took that seriously when people brought that to our attention.
But
after speaking with our rep from the company that we bought all the equipment from, he assured us that that's pretty standard. There's not much we can do. Some of that equipment too that was previously there was almost eight years old. Yeah. So, some of it may have been improved over the course of
the Gotcha.
You know, with all the equipment.
Well, I'm glad we're
getting some good feedback, some positive feedback
on that. Yeah, we've had some great feedback. Had a few people not happy with it, but that comes with any change, of course. So, we were prepared for it. But so far, it's been more positive than negative, which is great.
Got you. Awesome.
Any other questions? You're welcome. Like the December 6 event. Yes, sir. With an 08:00 start, will parking be a challenge for parkrunners? Potentially. I would probably, if you wouldn't mind, the overflow parking on the North or the south end of the parking lot would probably be the best spot for any we're going to have our staff park over there too, to open up some of the spaces. It will be a fairly full parking lot, but nothing like we haven't seen with volleyball games and different things, so it should be pretty manageable, I would think. But that dog park parking and the overflow parking might be a better bet for the Park Run folks. And it's a little bit closer too, so.
Great. All right. Thank you all. Great. Thank you, Mike.
So are doing Mike and Michael? Is that what we settled on? Yes. Michael and Michael. That what we settled on?
Whatever you want. I
like that.
That's a good
one for him.
You're Wally? What was that?
He he wouldn't be understanding.
Used to be up for that.
Was just saying we're dating we're dating ourselves.
Careful. Careful. Alright. So KSAC update. First, I want to say thank you to Ashley. She was able to come out to our Halloween luncheon, and it was a fantastic luncheon. Everyone got to dress up as their favorite character or whatever they were wanting to be. So Ashley came over and helped us out.
Okay. What was she? She
I was a volunteer.
She was a really good dressed up volunteer. So there you go. So for November, some of the things that we're I'm gonna try and do this in order. It's gonna be our Veterans and Friends meeting that is on the nineteenth. It's at 9AM.
Again, that's a really good time to come out and see local veterans, but also just be able to mingle with community members that are coming to that and listening to the speakers or just being able to interact with some of them. That's a really good crowd that gets to come out every month. That happens typically always the very last month of well, it happens twice a month, but for y'all, the best time to come would be the last one of the month. But for November, since we have the holiday coming up right there, we have it on the nineteenth. We have our painting for fun, which is a great time to come out and just get to see kind of some artwork that people get to do and and enjoy some of their time.
It's not a serious painting class. It's held by one of our sponsors, and they just it's a good time for them to come out and mingle and get to paint a little bit. Lastly for November is gonna be our Thanksgiving luncheon. It's gonna be on the twenty first. So much like the Halloween luncheon, it's gonna be a big kind of blowout. We this one, we're probably it's gonna be a little more low key. We won't have a costume contest or anything, but it's always again, those luncheons are fantastic to come out to. You get about a 112 people there. So if you wanna get a good reach or just see kinda what the senior center does on on a regular luncheon or the craziness that we have, those are the best days to
come out.
What what time is that, sir?
That's gonna be 11:30. And that's 11:30? That's twenty first. Yep. Yep. So 11:30 start, that's when seating starts, but the actual meal service starts at noon. So if you're there anytime between 11:30 and noon, that's perfect. Then just kinda quickly going over December, just some high level stuff before we have the next meeting. We've got our Winter Wonderland luncheon on the sixteenth, again 11:30 to 01:30.
What's that again? I'm sorry.
It's our Winter Wonderland. Winter Wonderland. Mhmm. For Tom over there, we did get a chili event put together. That's gonna be put through the Keller Community Senior Fund. That's it's gonna be free for any of the members that wanna come and get some free chili and get to talk and hang out. That's gonna be on the twenty second from twelve to 01:15. And then our biggest event of the year, typically, will be our New Year's Eve luncheon. That's gonna be on the December 31 at 11:30. We're gonna have band come out. We're gonna have music. We'll have bingos going on. So we'll have a lot of stuff. So kind of like the other ones, that's a big one to come to. If you have the opportunity, it's a good time to.
And that's on the thirty first? Thirty first, yes.
Got you. Yes, sir. That's everything I have.
Great. That's it.
That's everything I got right now. Looking for the twenty second.
So talk to us a little bit earlier in the meeting, were talking about your famous survey that's going on. And one of the things that came up is that, and I guess for a follow-up on this is that, that we weren't certain we could prohibit people from filling out multiple surveys. Correct. So there is no way to do that. We can't do it by email addresses or No.
So they didn't take IP addresses, they didn't take emails, we didn't put emails in, we didn't have any identifiers put in so that it was truly anonymous. Yes, there was the opportunity to do that. Based off the information I've seen so far, I don't believe that we have a lot of that happening. If it did, the information seems pretty skewed, kind of what I would expect it to be.
I mean, based on even Frank made that comment is that, you know, didn't think it was going to be something that was abused, but there's always the concern that a certain agenda might stack the deck, you know, a little bit, put their foot on the
scale and Potentially. Potentially there was, but again, I don't think I don't think we had that happen. Now, it could have. I guess we'll never really know that truly, unless the company has that. But for the most part, I don't believe that we had any stacking going on.
It wraps I'm up sorry, wraps up the fifteenth is what everybody said? Sorry.
No. It just wrapped up Tuesday. I think it wrapped up Tuesday.
I don't remember when we Yeah. If it's still live or not.
I think he pulled I think they pulled it on Tuesday. Yeah. So it it wrapped up on Tuesday. To start with kind of a timetable on that, we had about 200 respondents just under that during our typical window. We ended that on the thirty first.
Found out, through talking with a few different people, that they were not receiving those emails. I was sitting with Tom and Peggy, and I received it, but they didn't at that exact moment. So I worked with the company, found out there was a lot of bounce backs that were happening, mostly Yahoo emails. So then I sent one out from our server, and we jumped up to right around the 300 mark. I sent another one out right before it ended, and we're They haven't updated it since the tenth, but as of the tenth, we were sitting at 491 responses. So I mean, the minimum goal that we were looking for was right around 500. So we did hit that.
Great. Awesome. Sorry, Jay, you had a question?
I was just trying to clarify the point that you made. You can't have a survey that is anonymous and police multiple responses.
Because we would know. Or somebody would know.
There's a trade off.
There's there's a trade off for it. I mean, if you wanna it all depends on if you wanna believe in the people that are taking the survey and being correct and being right with that, or if they were sacking the deck. But based off the limited responses I've seen so far, I don't believe that we've had that really happen. And I don't know if it's stacked for one group in particular or not.
Any other questions? I have one last one. So, one of the first questions, a qualifying question of are you a member or not? And then, if you're not, it doesn't go any further. Remind me again, I know you answered this question before, but remind me again how we reach a base that's non member.
Yeah. So how that how all the information was taken, so all the emails that we sent off to OnPoint, I pulled an active member list at that moment on that day. And that's gonna be if It doesn't matter if you just started membership, you're halfway through your membership of the year, or you end that day, and then it gets sent out three days later. That's where some of that came in. I did pull that information.
So of the sample size, which was 491 responses, 66% of those were residents, thirty two were non residents, and only 2%, which was seven people, were non members. That could be anywhere between their membership ended, for some reason, email just got tucked in with all the others that were pooled, or they could have been a caretaker or something else that they are not an active actual member, but they are they are participating with their the person they're caretaking for. So but they out of all that, it was noted that seven people were in there. So that was a very minor
Okay. Number. Thank you. Mhmm. No other questions? Thank you, sir.
Thank you all. Appreciate it.
Alright, Cody. Just
a few more. Holidays is coming up Friday, December 5 here at Keller Town Hall, 5PM to 9PM. We will have some VIP parking passes for you. We don't have them right this minute. So if you don't mind stopping back by sometime next week, we'll get those to you. That way you can find a parking spot and get here a little bit less trouble free. Event starts at five. Parade starts at seven. We'll have fireworks, snow hill, bounce houses, food trucks. If you'd like to volunteer, please let Jordan know, and she will put you to work.
Are we gonna give away trees this year? Do you know?
I think they were trying to find some. They were having trouble Really? Finding some. Yes.
Okay. They're bare tin. They're bare tin.
There's a eggnog tent.
Can I ask a lighting of the tree question?
Yes.
The timing of it, I assume, kind of aligns with when the parade ends. Is that Correct. Okay. Just an observation as a person who has a little person in the parade, Her little legs couldn't book it back fast enough to see the tree lighting. So I don't know if there's a way to, like, fill just, like, five minutes of air to give the little participants of the parade a chance to get back. I don't know. It's an observation. The schedule's the schedule. I respect that. But I thought I'd share our experiences from those.
Could they peel off when they pass
your float.
Yeah. Maybe that's a lesson learned for our family last Maybe we escape our float
Right.
A a little bit early before the end.
That's probably I would probably recommend that just because people have been waiting and depending on the number of participants in the parade that
What time does the tree lighting occur?
As soon as Santa makes it. So we're anticipating 07:45, but it could be 08:15. I mean, it it's gonna depend on who all shows up for the parade.
We're gonna we're gonna escape our float. Brother made it sound amazing, so big sister was a little disappointed that she saw it from afar. So note to the five people watching, If you're on a float, get off in time to see the tree because my son says it's fabulous.
It is fabulous. It is.
The we are still celebrating Keller's seventieth birthday for the rest of this month, and there is a contest on Goose chase. Thank you for bringing to our attention
For fixing it.
One of our items that we should not have had on there. Earlier this week, we've learned that several awards were won, two by the city at the Texas Event and Festival Association State Awards for 2025. City of Keller received the silver award for the best event program within an event to benefit a cause and that was for last year's holidays. They also received the gold award for the best event video promotion for Keller Lights.
Oh. Oh, yeah.
And our own Jordan Dawson received the Texas Rising Star outstanding young professional of the year.
Oh. So awesome. Great.
Very very very proud of her.
Great. Wow. We gotta get her in here and recognize her.
Yes. I think we're looking to do that at an upcoming council meeting.
That'd be great.
So we'll let
you know. Please let us know what that is. We'd love to come and celebrate that with her
Very proud.
With you. That's awesome. Yeah. Great. Congratulations. Wonderful. So glad. Before you run away, what's your take on Flannel Fest? Do you was it or was it success? What was the what's the early reports on that?
I haven't honestly had a chance to get with Jordan and have those discussions. He's been out all this week. K. And I've been preoccupied with Everything else. Numerous other things.
But we're
But she'll have a she'll have a full wrap up
That in December.
To all the events. Yeah. Okay. Great.
Thank
I you very
wanna circle back to the scavenger hunt. If any of you haven't done it, I'm newer to Keller, so I don't have as much of the history of Keller. It's really cute. Fun little facts and what some of these businesses used to be. I know what some of the older buildings were, but I'm learning and my kids are having fun. So if you haven't downloaded it, it's it's just one new thing released today, and it doesn't close out. So if you miss a few or you're busy for a few days in a row, then you can have a little catch up day with on a Saturday or whatever works for your schedule.
So it's it's fun. I'm not sure. I I have to tell them what the so
one of the items that was on there, I shouldn't Was there actually did somebody actually put
I have no idea.
Oh, so we I I think you many of you know, I also sit on
the cemetery board for Mount Gilead. And so one of the items was in the cemetery and the burial currents, are treasures. They're they're literally treasures. There very few remaining examples of those in the state of Texas. And someone said yeah. On the on the original hunt, it said, see if you can find the mummy in the burial kern. So all of a sudden, we had some traffic in the cemetery for people looking, and that wasn't good. So we got that changed. Thank you for changing it. So now they're now you go read
to to that. That. And that that was changed, and thank you for doing that. But,
then yeah, that that that was a very interesting phone call that I received. But I think that it is a neat program because I am getting positive feedback about, you know, they're they're getting to see a lot of neat things that they hadn't heard about. So it's a fun idea. And so I don't wanna I
don't wanna cast a poll
over idea because it's No. We needed we needed to be aware
of that.
And I'm glad they changed that. And then, you know, because that is a that's a very that's a special place, it's a sacred place and we need to keep it that way. But so thank you for changing that. But I also think it's an opportunity
for people to to see the place and appreciate it. And so it worked out well for both both entities. So thanks for doing that. But okay. So any other questions for Cody about events or things that are coming up, staff announcements? Any any were there were there any staff up any changes for staff? Or we have nothing there. Right? All everything's the same there.
Right? Everything's still the same.
Yep. Okay. So the next thing you said that's that's on the agenda then for the next council meeting will be they'll actually make the the official appointments to the boards.
All the boards and commissions. Correct. Okay. Tuesday night.
Alright. Okay. That's that then. Thank you, Cody. Alright. So we think we did we cut off the I cut off the park board members. Were there any other updates from park board members at the earlier meeting?
I wanna quick brag on Park Run. The mayor made a Facebook post today announcing his candidacy for the state rep seat, and he included, four pictures intended to show things that are things that he's been involved with in Keller. And, one of them was a group picture when at one of his, one of the times he attended Park Run. I thought that was pretty cool that that he chose a picture from our event.
Yep. Park Run is cool all the way around. It's awesome. So and if you haven't been out there, I recruited two new people that signed up yesterday. So they're gonna be out there Saturday. Yeah. I work with them. So so I'm excited about that. Okay. So I think that the only other staff announcement I have or board members is to say thank you again. That was a very nice surprise. And so don't leave without a piece of cake. So cake next door after we adjourn. Take a few minutes since we're getting out of here early. I will entertain a motion to adjourn and to have a piece cake. Motion to adjourn. Do I have a second?
Second. All
in favor? Aye. Meeting is adjourned. We'll see you in December.
