This is Mayor Russ Kessler, and thank you for joining me on this week's episode of Moment with the Mayor. Being on the Budget Committee for the League of Kansas Municipalities, I went to Topeka a few days ago for the 2027 Budget Committee meeting. That meeting was followed up in the afternoon with the Policy Committee meeting. The Policy Committee is charged with developing policy recommendations and proposing amendments to the Statement of Municipal Policy for the 2027 Legislative Priorities. I just love going to Topeka, not only representing the City of Hayesville, but as the Director and President of the League of Kansas Municipalities, also representing all cities. I was pleased to announce the businesses that were selected to receive funding through the 2026 Broadway Facade Grant Program. This program will help support improvements along Broadway. Improving the Broadway corridor is something that I have been working on for a while and will continue to do so. National Cleanup Day is coming up soon. Join me on Saturday, September 19th at 8 a.m. in Dorner Park. We will be meeting at the Trout Shelter and picking up trash around the park. All supplies will be provided. Just bring yourself, friends, and your family. I held our first art focus group meeting a few days ago, and we had a lot of great ideas come out of it. I will continue to focus on art around the city, making Hayesville a more art-friendly city. If you missed the last meeting, you are still more than welcome to attend future art-focused group meetings and share your ideas on how to make Hayesville better. The Gathering at the Gazebo and Art Walk is coming up on Saturday, September 26th from 430 to 830 in the Historic District. If you are an artist and would like to display your art, please contact the City. There will be a lot of great things going on during this event, such as music, art, food vendors, and kids' activities.
