Welcome to On the Agenda, where we highlight the activities of City of Salena boards and commissions. I'm your host, David Hawksworth. The city commission met on February 23rd. Here's a recap of the actions taken at the meeting. Commissioners held a study session to continue discussions on locating a new Boys and Girls Club facility in Sunset Park. Consensus was reached to proceed with discussions for a possible agreement to be considered at a future meeting. The city commission met as the Lower Smoky Hill Water Supply Access District Board for its quarterly meeting and set the next meeting date for May 11th. After approving the consent agenda, a motion to approve a resolution of advisability for the issuance of industrial revenue bonds for the new Kansas Municipal Energy Agency facility failed on a 2 to3 vote. The next city commission meeting will take place on Monday, March 9th at 4 p.m. in room 107 of the city county building. The meeting agenda will be available on Friday, March 6th on the city's website, salina-ks.gov. Here's the city board and commission update. The animal control advisory and appeals board met on February 11th and recommended that the city explore a partnership with Prairie Paws for administration of Salina Animal Services. The downtown design review board met on February 12th and postponed action on signage at 109 South Santa Fe Avenue until March 12th. The solid waste management committee met on February 12th and approved their annual goals for 2026. The Arts and Humanities Commission met on February 18th and recommended that the city commission approved the integrated public art at the new fire station number four. The board of zoning appeals met on February 19th and approved a variance from landscape buffer requirements at 101 North Fourth Street, 235 Harsh Avenue and 239 Harsh Avenue. They also approved setback variances for two trash enclosures at 108 Brock Road.
