Town Council - public_hearing

I'd like to call this meeting to order. The July 8, 2026 Town Council Public Forum. On agenda items, please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you all for coming out today. Does any member of council have a conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest in regards to anything on the agenda? All right, moving on. Public comments will be open. Does anybody have any comments on any agenda items? If you do, please step up to the mic.

My name, my name and address. Tracy Jones, 418 29th street. Um, I just have some questions that I don't know if you answer or not, but I'm just going to put them out there. Um, I'm trying to understand the need for the golf carts and for the registration of golf carts so they can go on the streets, I guess. Um, and part of it is it talks about additional tasking for the police the police are going to have to register etc etc etc so when i was reading that and trying to understand it i was wondering How much is this adding on to our police force? And is it worth the registration fee? Because are we going to have to hire more people under the police department, which would be at a cost? And is it worth the $100 registration fee or whatever it's going to be to register golf carts, not the street LVSs or whatever they are? So that was my question when I was looking at That section. And then when we look at. This probably is not in the order of this agenda, but the cash free transactions, how we're going to become cash free. Are we going to be charging the 3% surcharge on the credit card like almost every business does in the town? Or are we not charging that? The question on that. When I looked at the fire reports, I was wondering when they talk about inside town limits, does that include the ETJs or is that strictly just the town? where the town taxpayers live or does that include etj's and then when i looked at the police reports i had a question on one page where it says monthly cfs so i didn't know what cfs stood for um i understood all the rest but if um you could say what the cfs stands for um Also, I didn't know, what's the difference of the two columns? Because they're always the same number. So why do we have two columns on that page when there's never a difference between the two columns? And then when I was also looking, there's a lot of medical calls that are under the police. And the fire department has a lot of medical calls, which we know why. And so I was just wondering, like, the medical calls that the police go to, is that in addition to what the fire department went to? So it's different? Or did you both show up at the same medical? So We're counting under police and fire. And do the police always have to go to a medical? If that's the situation, does the police always have to go to a medical call? And I think that was it that I have. Thank you. Thank you.

mr claimer um i'm sure you would like to respond to these and that's our customary practice when people ask that you're the appropriate person to respond yes ma'am i'm happy to great thank you miss jones i'm going to go in order of the way that you brought these questions to the council the golf carts i pitched that to the town council several several years ago as you know or may know there's upwards of 90 golf cart parking spaces on the island and they're not always full Why is that? I don't know quite why that is, but if we can get more people to bring a golf cart to the island as a smaller footprint, it's safer because it's slower. There is general statute that allows the town, by the vote of the council, to permit golf carts and set the requirements. So the $100 was just an example of... a nearby town of what they charge. This council could charge whatever they want. If they say it's $500, if a resident doesn't want to pay $500, then they can pay for property tax and register it as an LSV, which is probably going to be a lot more expensive. No, no, no. We are not hiring an extra police officer to manage this program. We're going to manage it with existing staff. And as far as how it's going to be set up, that's all at the discretion of the town council. Cash-free transactions, you asked about the 3% surcharge. We currently take credit card payments if folks want to use a credit card and we do charge a 3% surcharge for those transactions currently. You talked about the fire reports. If it's mentioned town limits, that specifically means town limits. If it's fire district, it would specify otherwise. CFS in police report stands for calls for service. So it's different than a case report. A call for service could be something as simple as removing an item from the roadway. It would not require us to do a full police report from removing an item from the roadway. The two columns could just be how it's printed. I'll have to look into that. I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to there. You talked about medical calls. Every time there's a medical call, the dispatch center runs with county dispatches for us. Every time there's a medical call, they're automatically gonna let the police know that there's a medical call. It could be at your house. It could be something where you're losing blood. and I'm right in front of it, and I have a chance to go in and perform a life-saving measure where seconds are going to matter, the majority of those I can tell you we don't go to. They show up on that report because they create a call for service for that. The majority of them we don't go to unless it's something that somebody's not breathing or somebody's bleeding out. Like I said, if we can make a difference, we're going to go. If it's somebody that's feeling lightheaded, we're probably not going to go to that, especially if they have somebody there with them. So when you asked if they are the same as the fire departments, yes, they are. But the majority of them, like I said, we don't go to. Did I miss anything?
