Heavenly Father, we gather here tonight with grateful hearts, thankful for those who have chosen to serve the city of Richmond. We are thankful for the freedoms we enjoyed. Included in those freedoms is the freedom to vote and the freedom of each citizen to have the opportunity to serve the community through active elective office. Tonight we give recognition and thanks for those who have have served generously giving of their time and talents striving to make our city a better place for all. Tonight, we also give recognition to our newly elected council members, some in continuing service through reelection and others that are beginning their first term in office. We give thanks thanks to both of these groups and ask that you would grant them the wisdom and understanding to make decisions that benefit the community. As the composition of the council changes, I pray that you will bless members with a spirit of cohesion and unity and provide them with a vision for the city of Richmond.
