Staff Report
**Sustainability Dashboard:** Staff presented the Sustainability Dashboard at the Public Works Committee meeting on March 12. Many of the committee's questions centered on both the initial cost and ongoing annual expenses. A motion to enter into an agreement with Kim Lundgren Associates for development of the dashboard did not receive a second and therefore did not move forward. **Sustainability Toolkits:** Staff is finalizing the toolkit information on the Sustainability Page on the city's website and developing a video to help explain how to use the energy audit toolkit. If anyone is interested in assisting the Parks & Recreation Department with the video by demonstrating how to use each item within the toolkit please reach out to the Parks & Recreation Department. **Sustainable Sites Initiative - Mt. Calvary Park:** The Public Works Committee did approve the Sustainability Commission's recommendation to have work with SWT on Sustainability Sites designation for Mt. Calvary Park. **Charging Smart:** Staff received notification from the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), which leads the Charging Smart program, that the U.S. Department of Energy has reinstated the program. Staff has scheduled a meeting with an IREC representative, on Tuesday, to restart the designation process. SolSmart remains paused at this time. **Switch Together:** The City of Webster Groves recently contacted staff to explore a potential partnership with Missouri Botanical Garden on a new regional solar initiative. In previous years, the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association collaborated on the Grow Solar program, a group-purchasing model that helped reduce installation costs for St. Louis-area residents. The updated program, now called Switch Together, continues to be facilitated by the Missouri Botanical Garden and introduces enhancements such as the inclusion of battery storage options. Staff is in the process of scheduling a meeting with the Missouri Botanical Garden to gather additional details about Switch Together and will share an update at the next Sustainability Commission meeting.

STL County Grant for City Recycling Events
**Synopsis:** The City of Brentwood hosts quarterly paper shredding through Secure Document Destruction and electronic recycling events through MRC Recycling each year. In 2026, the City is expanding its sustainability efforts by adding two latex paint recycling events in partnership with PaintBusters. Staff has applied for grant funding through the St. Louis County Department of Public Health to help offset event costs. Assistance from Sustainability Commission members is requested to help staff events and meet grant requirements. **Initiating Department:** Communications **Subject:** 2026 Recycling Events, Grant Application, and Volunteer Staffing Support **Presenters:** Michelle Boyer, Communications Manager **Background:** The City of Brentwood provides residents with opportunities to responsibly dispose of materials through quarterly paper shredding and electronic recycling events. ## 2026 Event Schedule: **Paper Shredding:** - February 7 - May 2 - August 1 - November 7 **Electronic Recycling:** - March 7 - May 9 - August 8 - December 12 In 2026, the City will also introduce two latex paint recycling events in partnership with PaintBusters: - June 6 - December 5 The City will be submitting an application for the St. Louis County Department of Public Health Reimbursement Grant to help fund eligible events. Funding will only be available for events that occur after grant approval. A requirement of the grant is that a City representative be present at each event to verify that participants are St. Louis County residents using a County-provided verification application. To meet this requirement, the City is seeking volunteers from the Sustainability Commission to assist with staffing these events. Michelle Boyer will staff the June 6 paint recycling event. **Finance/Operations:** Grant funding, if awarded, will reimburse eligible costs associated with recycling events that occur after approval. Staffing support from Commission members will help ensure compliance with grant requirements and reduce operational burden on staff. **Recommendation:** Staff recommends that the Sustainability Commission review the 2026 event schedule, support the City's grant application efforts, and consider volunteering to assist with staffing events as needed.
