Planning Commission - Special Meeting

Okay. All right. We'll go ahead and call our festival meeting to order. And the primary order of business tonight is picking the recipient of our festival uh scholarship that we give out. It's a $1,000 scholarship. It's not a a lot, but it is nice that we can offer that. And uh the way we typically do it, everybody kind of picks a a one, two, three uh out of the submissions that we've received and then we kind of try to find a consistent through line among those votes. And yours, I think. Oh, okay. She gave me I was just going to pass this on down the line and everybody can use the same one.

Okay. Thank you. So, Well, I I have some questions before we vote. Yes.

I I read I read as I read each one of these. I have a little bit of a an issue with the mission statement of the intent of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a student who may not otherwise receive a scholarship who may not otherwise receive scholarship aid and has financial need. It's the financial need part that bothers me is because we don't ask about that. We have no knowledge of who needs the money, who doesn't need the money, who would benefit from it. And that kind of threw me off. It's like, we don't know their situation. So, how do we know who has financial need and who doesn't?

They usually just let us know in their, you know, they'll say like, "We've had it before, but you know, We could we could change that in the future. We could word it differently in the future. I think that's probably a fair critique. Even if even if you're uh decidedly in the, you know, middle class, it's still a school isn't cheap. So, and when we write down numbers here, are we saying that one is our first choice? And so, when you total them up, the person with the lowest score wins?

No. Whoever has whoever has the most number one or Yeah, I don't know. It's okay. We sometimes have some uh it sometimes takes a little bit of thinking, but

And three of us, three people picked him

as as number one. I'm fine with doing it that way. And then here, two people picked Yeah. here. One person one and one. Yeah. So, looks like Joshua Marorrow. Is that who we're going with? It was simply There you go. Everybody get a look at that and see if you interpret it the same way. Yeah. Yeah, I'm good. Okay. Person who gets the most number one votes. So, is there uh we've we've kind of done a semiformal vote, but uh is there a motion to extend this scholarship to uh is it Joshua Joshua Mara?

I make a motion that we uh grant the scholarship to Joshua Mara for $1,000. The Atlanta New York Festival I'll second. All in favor? I I That'll be nice. We'll call. We won't call them tomorrow. They get surprised if we present. Well, they're not going to be very surprised if they're watching. All right, Jennifer, is there any other

The only other couple things I have is the band. They are coming back for this year. Um and then also trash boxes, Ace Paving. they are not going to do it this year. They had another opportunity for something else. Okay. So, um so I'm gonna try really hard to see what we can do. Um I know that the prices will be going up. Sure. So, we we need to order sooner rather than later. So, it would behoove us if we were looking for another sponsor. Take anybody's money. But we already have Beex plates, right? Yes. Is there possibility there? Okay. No. All right.

I mean, we've already tried them before. So, so we'll see what we can um um Yeah, I would say over the next I don't know what the timeline is for an order, but we probably need to pull the trigger on just a plain order. Number right in front of me. Um I think I told you guys none printed for like about 6,000 something over the two years. Okay. Um yeah. So if I if we can't get anything like care very quickly, I'm just going to go ahead and order. We'll save that in the next couple weeks. Yes, that's what I was thinking. Okay.

So, and that's really all I have besides, you know, we're we're getting um we're getting sponsors back and uh applications back. You still need another band. I thought we were still looking for one band. No, we got the bands. All the all the bands are there. Are they the same length as last I mean there was discussion about changing? We've changed um we've got um let's see bands that we've stayed the same and the others are new. Why? The others are new. We've got two that have stayed the same and the others are new. Is it 45 RPM is

45 RPM's coming back. How many of six I think four hill and oaks are the other one coming back is coming back so that would be so that those those three there's three who's the seven we got with a logo and so it's not that much different but

we always mean we always try to get a Christian uh like a like stencil plates or whatever they are classic rock you know so if it wasn't so we really try every year we would factor that in type they play so that's how it is yeah so 45 RPM's coming back they play the British I know it's been living it's more of a party I think he's treated It is pretty classic. We always we always have that kind and then we always have the uh bluegrass but maybe it's worth ask

those are the varieties there are to try well that's what man was saying last meeting is why don't we just why don't we just talk to them about having them do it very very expensive in the past about it but I think it's probably worth asking I think what he was saying is put that in contract contract so And we still get um still get uh emails and calls. So yeah, I'll take it still. I don't mind that. And you never know. I always like to have one on hand just for cancellation just in case. Oh, okay. I don't know if we would need as many, but

you collect them from everybody in town. You know, give them a break on their bill once. It's I know. What's that about? We were talking about potential other trash options. Um, is it I'm pretty sure Republic has trash boxes. Is that something asking about? Just ask if they going to call and ask ask about just the boxes one and then two if the boxes plus trash collection and see if either of those things are an option for us. Who knows? Don't know if you don't mind. Right. Right. I suspect that it's going to be high because I do believe we've looked into this in the past, but we probably haven't done a price check.

He really wants Yeah. He really wants to work with the town, you know, and he's really wanting to get in on the festival. Sell them sponsored deal there. So, yeah, I'll call them definitely say, "Give me your price now. Tell me what the price is." Real price. Yeah. What can we discount this to and you be a sponsor? Yeah. Yeah. I mean they do sponsor us but um not at that level but we could yes sick and that's my excuse that's the only thing I can say I have found four or five different local wineries you don't care and see if any

find out if you wouldn't mind find out that would be It says they're local, too.

And uh my preference would be that they take care of everything, even the permitting and all that stuff, too. And so then they would have to figure out a secure area and a limit, you know, and a way to track that, right? I just give you invitation. Sure. And that would give free advertisement local. So Yes.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a a craft fair and I think any kind of local craft we can we can shine a light on is it only benefits the the broader community. So, I like it. More information is better than less, too. So, you don't know till you till you actually dig into it. So, I appreciate that. All right. Anything else for Festival? Is there a motion to adjurnn?
