The Pacifica City Council has declared a local emergency following severe structural damage to the Pacifica Municipal Pier and approved the demolition of the iconic Chit Chat Cafe. The decision comes after powerful waves and ongoing coastal erosion caused significant damage to the 53-year-old pier and the adjacent cafe. City officials say large cracks and displacement along the concrete walkway made the area unsafe for public use. As part of the emergency response, demolition crews quickly moved in to remove the Chit Chat Cafe, a long-time gathering place for local fishermen, residents, and visitors. For many in the community, the loss of the beloved waterfront landmark has been emotional. While the cafe is now gone, the future of the pier remains uncertain.
