[music] Hello, Burkin Arrow. I'm operations communications officer Lisa Jones and I'm with Councelor Justin Green and we're with City Council Rewind for Tuesday, March 3rd. We want to welcome you to the studio today. Thank you. It's a pleasure to be here as always. We appreciate you coming in. As city council meetings go, that was a pretty short meeting. It was It was relatively short, but it was still impactful and a lot of information. Absolutely. Well, first of all, the city council approved two interlocal agreements with Tulsa County for improvements on two intersections on Garnett Road, and that was at Florence Street, which is 111th, [music] and Tucson Street, which is 121st.

0:44 – 1:30Speaker 1

Yes, these two uh interlocal agreements will have a tremendous impact on us here in Broken Arrow. It's always a pleasure to be able to partner um with our community partners, Tulsa County and the city of Bixby, etc. on some of these u programs. Now, the interlocal agreement that we did for Florence in Garnett, it's a project that's been a long time coming to improve and widen that intersection. Uh Tulsa County worked very hard uh to get a flood mitigation grant uh through our federal government and we were very supportive in that act of getting that grant so that that intersection can be widened and raised to mitigate some of the flooding issues that we have down there. So, it's going to be a huge benefit both to the city of Broken Arrow and the city of Bixby and all who travel on that intersection.

1:28 – 2:08Speaker 1

Absolutely. With Florence, the city will pay 50% of the actual cost, not to exceed 30,000. And Broken Arrow's portion of the Tucson and Garnett intersection uh would not exceed 15,000. So, it's really a a bargain for the city. It really is. And like I said, the improvements in both those intersections going to be tremendous uh for all those who travel uh those roads in that area. I know those can get very busy and very backed up and this is going to be very beneficial to getting the flow of traffic uh to continue to move uh efficiently and again to uh handle some of those flooding issues in those areas. Absolutely. It's very good news. The council also approved two parks department projects.

2:06 – 3:13Speaker 1

Yes. Um as you know we here in Broken Arrow, we are huge on quality of life and we believe that our parks are a big part of that quality of life. Our park system is tremendous. Uh here in Broken Arrow, we have an excellent parks director. He does a great job. He has a a great staff uh that keeps all of our parks beautiful. Uh they work very hard at that. Uh whether it's looking at designing and putting in a new park or updating and upgrading the current parks, uh because that's important, too. Often times we look forward to what are we going to be doing with the next park, the next project, but it's just as important that we maintain what we have and make sure that they are usable for our citizens. We want people to be able to go out, enjoy those, whether it's playing on the playground, as you can see, the one at Country Air Park. We're going to be adding new turf to the play spaces. Um, so it'll be safer for the kids and also will help with them being able to play after a rain event, etc. because it's going to uh assist with the drainage. Also, we're going to be putting in over in Wedgewood Park a new uh pavilion over there that will help with the the shade and people'll be comfortable and relaxed while they're out enjoying parks.

3:12 – 3:24Speaker 1

They want to work here. They want to build a career here. And um this is a place where you can do that. You can work. You can build your career. And you can be a part of the city of Broken Arrow family right here. and uh and build that career and continue to go forward. So, congratulations to all those folks uh who earned their 25 plus years. Um we are so proud of you guys and we thank you for all of your contributions to the city.
