At this time, we're going to call this special meeting, City Council meeting in order. Notice of the hereby is given that a special meeting of the Georgetown City Council to be held in City Council Chambers, 100 North Court Street, Georgetown, Kentucky, 40324 at 5.30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 4.30 p.m. Central Standard Time on Monday, September the 14th, 2026. for the purpose of holding a public hearing pursuant to KRS 132.027 to obtain written and oral comments regarding the 2026 proposed tax rate. This is referring to the tax rate that we're going to talk more in detail about later on. So at this time, is there any public comments that wants to come in and talk about this tax rate? Or if so, you need to make sure you come and push the button and stay.

Good evening, Mr. Mayor, City Council, and fellow citizens. My name is Bill Abernathy, and I appreciate the opportunity to address you. I actually plan to do that at the regular meeting as well, so I'll keep this brief. I do object to the proposal to raise property taxes. It's not a large increase, but it is an increase at a time when many of our citizens are hurting. I know our schools and our public services need revenue, I get that. But at the same time, property taxes are spiraling and they're a burden, especially to those of us who are on fixed income. Many of us worked hard to pay off our mortgages, but we face the challenge of steadily increasing property taxes. I've heard the city of Georgetown has a fairly large cash reserve. Most of the citizens of our city don't have a cash reserve like that. Um, and so I would object to the proposed increase and encourage you even to consider lowering taxes, not raise them. As I said, I will speak a little bit more at the next meeting cause I have a little broader subject, but I appreciate the opportunity just to encourage you to reject the increase. Thank you.
