Good morning, my name is Matthew Cleaves and this is What's Happening at City Hall. I'm pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 Local Government Academy. The Local Government Academy, or LGA, is a free program that gives residents a closer look at how your city operates. The LGA introduces participants to every city department through presentations, facility tours, demonstrations, and interactive discussions with city staff and elected officials. Participants learn what each department does, how city decisions are made, how departments work together, and what is and is not within the city's authority. Participants will be given the opportunity to speak directly with the people providing city services and learn about the opportunities and challenges facing our community. The Academy is designed not only to build understanding, but also to help residents find meaningful ways to participate in your local government. Many past participants are now serving on city boards, commissions, and committees, as well as running for elected office. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, live within the city limits, have an interest in local government, and be available to attend all the sessions. Whether you're interested in future public service or simply want to better understand how your city works, the Local Government Academy is a great place to start. Visit thedals.org slash LGA to learn more and apply. Thank you very much.
