Public Safety Committee - Regular Meeting

Call the meeting to order. Roll call. We have all commissioners present. Any public comment? We have no one from the public. Consent agenda. We'll start with the minutes. Are there any corrections? Police department monthly report.

Yeah. I've reviewed the report. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, but the numbers from March 25 are very consistent with March 26. I did not see a lot of a lot of changes. Was very consistent.

Any questions from the chief? Nope. And we'll go to fire department monthly report.

Yeah. In reviewing their monthly report, kind of similar to PE, pretty much on par with the 2025 numb numbers. Maybe a little increase in in call volume. Other than that, pretty much right on par with what we've had in the past. And there's obviously, if there's any questions, please feel free to ask.

We fared well during the blizzard and everything?

Yeah. Yeah. That that the blizzard went well. Kinda worked together with DPW, contacted PD, and kinda came up with a whole game plan for the event. And with that, we didn't have any incidences.

I just know from listening to our members that say it's almost like a well oiled machine. We ran enough calls and when the calls are out, I know some of them would deviate off their routes to help us get to residences, things like that. So kinda got our emergency contacts in place. We were able to get the shelter open when we needed to, things like that, and everybody was helping everybody. So it it worked out well from all aspects.

Yeah. Not a lot of crashes. I guess probably from the standpoint of cars couldn't go fast enough to get in an accident. Just a lot of vehicles stuck, but very very few crashes from from

the information I was dealing with. Okay. You wanna speak

to building inspection and right away? Sure.

Yeah. As far as building inspection, things are happening in the city. I know, permits, you know, this time of the year, the activity ticks up a little bit. But I guess nothing really that I saw. Cheap laser might have a I don't know if have any other really comment on that.

Just making sure. Just from what I saw, like I said, things are things are moving along, and they've been I'm talking with Scott Kyle, new supervisor, yeah, for a building inspection. He's been reviewing a few more home site that.

That's Lakeshore Community Foundation, basically sorry. That's the No.

That one, I don't know.

Off of the lakefront there. Basically, we're we're our West Gardens. West Gardens. Thank you. There's a they're using part of that building. So there's some renovations that are going on over there because the Lakeshore Community Foundation, which is another nonprofit, is working. I don't wanna say closely with West Foundation, but they're kinda in the same general location, and I believe that office alteration is just some work that's being done to kinda give them their privacy or their

own parts. Dawn of apartments, that's gonna be a new structure?

That is the brand new one that's going up there. Yeah. The 1.8.

I will add with billing inspection also that with Scott Guy, Kyle, taking that promotion to supervisor his housing inspection or housing enforcement position is open, I believe, next week. We're we're looking at interviews to fill that position. Thank

And I participated in the interviews. I have no problem with all three. Any other questions at all?

I again participated in that interview and have no issues.

Yeah. The police department's gonna be requesting approval for the following list of applicants for the position of patrol officer Jordan Smith, Jorge Gonzalez, Catherine Ristakin, and Jacob Pike.

And you had a commissioner with you before that process?

I did participate in that, and I agree with the chief's assessment. One unique one that I have stood out for me was Jorge Gonzalez. Fluent in Spanish, So that's one thing we lack on this department of Spanish speaking.

We just had him in today for chief surgery.

Doing very well. Okay. Great. So but I concur with the chief's assessment on this.

Okay. This list is a little different. So what time frame are you requesting?

We're looking for twelve months.

Yes. On March, we had held interviews for the position of firefighter, firefighter paramedic, and went through the interviews and would like to the names listed, establish headless for one year.

And again, have you participated in one full day of interviews. Correct?

I did. And then I would like to thank Todd for buying lunch that day. It was, you know, it was it was refreshing because I think that's one of the interview days where there was

qualified people,

and that was nice to work with even though it was a long day. But I concur with the the list put together, the eligibility of this. So

My understanding is you did thin out the candidate?

We did. Mhmm. Okay.

And I also interviewed on one day. I had a much shorter day,

that day and had no problems with that candidate.

So we have a list in front of us.
