Public Safety Committee - Regular Meeting

Okay, I see that the clock reached 5.30, so I will call the June 8th meeting of the Public Safety Committee to order roll call. Everyone is here except Alder Cummings, who called me and texted me, and so we'll mark him as excused. Public comment. Is there anybody from the public that wishes to make a comment? Going twice. Anybody here from the public wishing to make a comment? Anybody on the internet, on Zoom? I don't see anybody. Third call and never understood why there was three calls for public input other than the attorney says I think it's legal, so we'll go with that. Third time for public comment, none. We'll call public comment closed. We've got a consent agenda. Anybody have anything under the consent item that they wish to pull? Item five, discussion and action items number 28, I'm sorry, not 20, 26-0509, ordinance to amend section 10.170 of the Manitowoc Municipal Code regulating through intersections. Second by, to approve and pass on to city council. Any discussion? Hearing none, all those in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed, nay. It was unanimous. And because these are What they are, these will all be on the City Council's non-consent agenda. Next item is 2605.10, ordinance to amend section 10.150 of the Manitowoc Municipal Code, regulating arteries through traffic exceptions. That's an interesting wording on that. Anybody have any questions, comments? No.

I need a little help with the verbiage on that. I was reading 35 North 5th Street and struggling through that beginning at North Line of and then everything scratched out until Maritime Drive. and continuing north on North 5th to Cleveland Avenue, except at all traffic.

Well, I ran into the city attorney on his way out as I was on my way in, and I asked about why three of them. And he said it has to do with because there's so many places in our code that if it's a four-way stop, it's the code here. If it's just a one-way or two-way stop, the code is over here. And then you get into, of course, the engineering and the logistics of where the street is and how it's been written up in the past, I guess. And I'm guessing my explanation isn't helping you very much. But I'm trying.

No, no problem. I assumed it followed the maps and the policy and that, and I think I was just having trouble reading all of the verbiage. It seemed like there was maybe an extra word or something. But if it makes sense to everybody else... I see what you're saying.

Correct. I'll just add that to line 35. Super. Super. And looks like last on our list is item 2605-11, ordinance to amend section 10.230 of the Manitowoc Municipal Code, regulating four-way stops. for section 10.150 is wrong for the second one. It should be 35 North 5th Street, not 57 South 35th Street.
