2026 Human Relations Commission Scholarship Program
Each year, the Human Relations Commission (HRC) awards scholarships to graduating seniors from Lexington Senior High School who are planning to attend a four-year university/college or community college. In January 2026, the HRC directed staff to publish the scholarship application to award three scholarships: $1,500, $1,000 and $500. The received applications are attached for the Human Relations Commission to review and rank to determine the three recipients.
Parks & Recreation Donation and Sponsorship Update
The Human Relations Commission requested, at their April 6, 2026 meeting, for the Parks & Recreation Department to provide them with field trip and supply options. The Commission plans to make a donation to the department to cover a necessity or necessities.
LCS Recognition Day 2026 Update
The Human Relations Commission has selected the Developmental Wing of South Lexington School for LCS Recognition Day 2026. A ceremony will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 10:30am with students and parents in attendance. At the April 6, 2026 meeting, the Human Relations Commission decided it would purchase a variety pack of items and shaker eggs for the students in the Developmental Wing.
Housing Event Update
At the April, 6, 2026 meeting, the Human Relations Commission voted to host a housing event that focuses on home buying, credit repair and banking options. The housing subcommittee is the lead for the event. Currently, there is no date, time or location for the event. Another event that was previously proposed will be revisited.
HRC Retreat 2026 Update
The Human Relations Commission will hold their 2026 Retreat on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 12:00pm-5:00pm in the Vernon G. Price, Jr. Council Chambers at City Hall.
May 2026 Staff Report
Budget - 2025-26: $7,992.77 Donations - Check presentations are anticipated to begin the week of May 18, 2026. - Vocational Rehabilitation will not receive a donation because they are a government agency. City Updates - Meet the Manager Mondays with City Manager Johnnie Taylor - May 18, 2026 from 4:00pm-6:00pm - Meeting will take place in the City Hall Council Chambers
