I don't have any number. Welcome, everybody, to the city of Joliet public safety meeting. Today is 04/07/2026 here in the council chambers at 05:32. Can we have roll call, please?
Councilman Gillette. Here. Councilwoman Ibarra. Here.
Councilwoman Goldman. Okay. Everybody?
Here. I'm sorry.
Okay. Everybody's here. Approval of the minutes. Everybody have a chance to review the minutes if you have any questions, comments for 02/03/2026.
Quick question. Yep. My darling, do you put the minutes on the website? Not the website, but in our email when you're telling us there's a meeting? Because I was looking for them, and I couldn't I couldn't find them. They're attached to the agenda. Yeah. I couldn't find it. That doesn't mean anything. It's been a busy morning. They're always on the website. Okay. I gotcha. Thank you. Yep.
Anything else? Yeah. I'm good. Can we get a a motion to accept the minutes from February 3?
Oh, yeah. I'll I'll be I I remember this now. Yes. I second. To approve. I will second.
Okay. All in favor? Aye.
Aye. Okay.
Citizens to be heard
on agenda items, are there any citizens here that
would like to speak on any agenda items? We do not see anyone. We'll move on to agenda items. Number four. So number one, your purchase of 10 AirPack x three pro SCBA and one AirPack x three pro and eight AirPack x three pro CGA for the Joy Fire Department from MES Life Safety in the amount of $157,225.
Chief? Yep. So these are the remaining SCBA we have that didn't get changed out over the years. They're still the old style. The old style, they don't fix them anymore, so we've been slowly upgrading. These will these will complete the purchases we made over the years. We had it in the budget, I think,
for a
190,000 that came in the 33,000 or cheaper. So and MES is our sole source for Illinois for our SCBAs.
How long do these last?
They're usually twenty to thirty years, but it depend there was a whole model change with the past devices and this. So the old ones, they just phased out, and now now it's all a new one where we don't even repair them anymore. They're all they're lifetime warranties now.
Okay. Any questions or comments from the committee? No.
We have a motion to approve.
So moved. Second.
We have a first and a second. All in favor? Aye. I'd also like to add this is the only item that is on tonight's agenda for council. Okay.
Move to number two. There is a correction. We're just gonna flip flop the names of the companies, but it purchased for fire station one of cabinets from Riverton Cabinet Company in the amount of $32,450 and the installation of cabinets for Fire Station 1 from Heinz Construction Incorporated in amount in the amount of $35,194.194 dollars in the amounts total amount of $67,644.
Chief? So the Station 1 kitchen remodel is in this year's budget. This is the beginning of it. This it's the original kitchen from thirty two years ago, so it's been beat up. Tiles are broken. It's just time to so Heinz is gonna do all the demo, reinstallation, and a lot of the other minor work of the wall moves and everything to update the kitchen.
Okay. Any questions or comments from the kitchen. Better get some good food.
I don't give any of that. I gotta I bring my leftovers.
Do do we any questions or comments, or are we good?
I move to approve. So second. Second. Sorry.
And we have a first and second to move this to the full council at a later date. All in favor? Aye. Aye. Thank you. I'll be in opposition. Very good. Okay. Number three. B pro, you're up. Brian Brasko. Approve approval of the purchase of body armor vest from for the SOS from first sphere in the amount of $54,616.25. That's right.
Good evening, committee members.
Miss Cole, thank you for having me.
So this agenda item is going to be for replacement vest for our SWAT team. So, essentially,
our vests, just like every other department member, they have
a shelf life to them.
Our prior vests were bought
in 2019. They last approximately five years.
We're a
bit over that. We were a little bit had a difficulty with the manufacturer because they have some other clients, you know, federal agencies, all that kind stuff too pushing in. So we had a squeeze in a little bit late to try to get our our quotes from them. What we're looking to do is stick with the same vendor for it. There's a
sole source agreement article that we had with
them as well. They've got a couple items on there that we wanna keep in line with that. So when we get our new vests, some
of the vests or the accessories from our prior vests will
be able to transfer over to our new ones. And then we'll be good for another five years for that. So, essentially, this is gonna outfit our Joliet members for our SWAT team. We have 26 of the 35 Joliet members. Mutual aid members are responsible for their own equipment, but this is gonna outfit our whole team for the next five years.
Okay. Any questions or comments? I remember all the equipment.
Where are
we gonna put it now? Okay.
If we don't have any questions or comments, can we get a motion to move this to the full councilor at a later date?
Sorely needed. Second.
K. You got a first and a second. All in favor? Aye. Thank you all. You got it. K. Ordinances, I do not see anything under that. Resolutions. Resolution authorizing the sale of a police dog to a k nine officer Adam Stapleton, who I believe just retired.
That's correct. He just retired, and we're going to the dog was is retired the same day. Why did they come here today? They should have. Yeah.
Well, maybe they can come at the
Council meeting.
Council meeting.
Is the sale at the dollar? Is that what we do? In dollar. Yeah. The The dollar. How old is the dog? He's, like, seven, I think. Isn't his dog, like, seven? It's it's It's kinda on its last legs.
Right? He's
about eight. Yeah. Okay. Close
to eight.
What do you mean last legs at eight? For work. That's only 56 in dog years.
Well, he's a happy drinker just,
though. That, I believe. He loves going to cut one fifty eight and having some martinis. Are there any questions or further comments? No. Move to approve. So second.
Alright. We have a first and a second. All in favor?
Aye. Alright. Happy boy.
He's been talking or old business not for final action recommendation?
I just do have one comment, if that's okay.
Go ahead. Yep.
Dan, I I wanna know, maybe you know this, why the ballot measure or the what we are voting on that has to do with the safety officer downstairs came to an public assets instead of public safety. I don't know if anybody knows that. It should've come public safety. Yeah. Because safety for our people is not an asset. Yeah. It's not a public asset. That's why you have public safety. Not protecting the building. That's their own protection. Brought it forth. That's all. Okay. Let's just drop that. Okay. We'll drop that. That's it. Okay. That's all I got. Do you have anything, Janet, or we're all good? We're good.
Okay. Any public comments? Is there anyone here that would like to have any comments? I don't see anybody. So we will make a motion and a second to adjourn.
So moved.
Got a first, and I'll make a motion to adjourn.
Second. K.
All in favor?
Aye. Aye.
