Hi. Thank you so much for having me tonight. I am the chairperson for the America 250 um North Carolina Hope County. We are one and I want to um ask if Mr. Dan can come. He's a state representative. Come up. Um yes, sir. Come up the whole county.
Well, thank you all uh for this opportunity here. Thank you, Iris, for for the invitation. Uh just want to talk a little bit about the role and significance of the county committees here in uh North Carolina uh for the commemoration of the 250th anniversary. Um really the county committees are the heart and soul of what's happening across the state. Uh we are up to 88 counties that have committees out of 100. Um and they really form the backbone of what's going on uh with the commemoration not just next year but through the through the course of the the revolution anniversary of 2020 2033. Um the heart like I said the heart lies within the county committees uh dedicated to planning and organizing events, projects, initiatives at the county level. They serve as the local conduit to the statewide commemorative effort and programming. Uh they are partners for amplifying information out towards the constituents not just in their counties but their neighboring counties as well. Uh and they also are charged with uh telling the rich history of not just our state but the the county and the local communities that they're uh representing. Uh we also hope that the hope or that the county committees foster a uh a sense of collegiality within the county to um bring folks together to the commemoration uh in the county. So therefore, we hope to have uh representation throughout the county like from all the different communities, different uh nonprofits, cultural institutions, uh community organizations, etc., etc. And Iris and her team here have done a really good
job, I think, in putting together a diverse group. Um, and it's really their job as as we see it and as the resolution that you all passed, giving them the authority to uh act on the behalf of uh the citizens of Hope County uh to lead the commemorative efforts and we really just want one organization in the county each county to kind of lead the charge so that there isn't duplication of efforts. Um, sometimes in some counties, some towns don't play well with others. So, the idea is having the the county come together uh and lead the charge is kind of a more of a a way to beg inclusivity in the into the commemoration. So, um, is there anything else?
Well, okay. Uh, I don't want to take up all the meeting from the state. Will there be interstate dollars available later to help in different counties? Um, so the in 2023 the general assembly appropriated my office with 2.1 million to grant out. Okay. That money had to have been awarded by the end of the fiscal year this past year. Okay. Um, so ideally we would want we were hoping to get additional funds, but the state's budget has been cut and cut and now we don't even have a budget. Okay. So, it's not looking good, but hopefully, you know, there's always hope. So, okay, that's good enough. Yeah,
thank you. But you it is uh it is kind of an organic growth and group. Um, so as much as there we wish we could give the state dollars, uh, a lot of the counties across the state and municipalities are are chipping into with funding. Okay. Thank you. Thank you so much.
Okay. Very well said. So with that said, um, as the America 250 North Carolina Hope County, we are one chairperson of the Hulk County Committee. I would like to formally present the proposal developed by the committee for our upcoming celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. This initiative organized by the state of North Carolina aims to bring our community together in a meaningful way. Again, again, a committee has been established and some of the committee members are here. If you don't mind standing for a moment, those of you who are here. Thank you. Thank you for serv Thank you for serving. Yeah.
Can you introduce him so we'll know exactly who we're Please introduce yourselves. Thank you. I want to give my name and the role that you're playing. Pleasure to be here. Thank you. And we have him back. Danny. Okay. Thank you.
She's the event coordinator in the back. And Dr. Santangelo is the veterans coordinator and Stephanie's the agriculture economic um director. So again um a committee has been established to ensure that whole county hosts an event that involves both the city and the county fostering a spirit of unity among our citizens. Um, following discussions with the county and city managers, we are eager to eager to share our proposal at your next meeting. We believe that this celebration presents a wonderful opportunity for Hope County and the city of Rafford to engage with the residents and commemorate this significant milestone in our history. Thank you for considering our request. We look forward to the opportunity to res present our ideas and seek your support in making this event a success.
So you have a plan of everything to us and share with us on the first Monday night in January. Yes, sir. That's what I'm the proposal, the the budget, the plan and all of that. Yes. Okay, that's what I'm requesting. Any more questions? Nope. Thank you. Thank you for coming. Thank you all for coming. Thank you. Thank you for the whole county. Thank you from state.
