Hello Hillsboro, I'm Mayor Payne. Thank you for following us this month on the Deis. Corporal Pizzy served in the United States Army from 2011 until 2019, transitioning between active duty and reserve while attaining the rank of sergeant. Throughout his tenure, he has served as a civil affairs specialist with the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade and a chemical operations specialist with the 411th Chemical Company, balancing responsibilities in CBRN, defense readiness with highstakes civil military operations. This expertise was notably applied during a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where Corporal Pizzy served as a vital liaison between the US forces and local authorities, facilitating stability and community engagement in complex environments. It is my honor to announce that Hillsboro Township Police Corporal Army veteran Frank Pizzy will lead Hillsboro's 2026 Memorial Day commemoration ceremony on May 27th as the grand marshall of our parade. Every year, the Hillsboro Township Board of Education recognizes one teacher and one educational service professional from each of the district's schools as educator of the year. These individuals behind me represent the best of the best in our schools. The township committee looks forward to recognizing these outstanding individuals each year with a proclamation. Tonight, we have with us a few of the educators who were recognized. They range from elementary school teachers to technology and STEM teachers at the high school, AP English teacher, as well as an instructional assistance. The event was held at Iron Peak and local historian Greg Gillette was the guest speaker. We also had over 80 local businesses represented and it was an amazing turnout. On March 11th, I had some very special guests. I had Girl Scout Troop 60842 visited my office to learn more about their local government for their democracy badge. I wanted to extend a massive congratulations to the Hillsboro High School Debate Club, who recently dominated the London Youth Moon 2026. This small but mighty team secured eight individual awards for their exceptional diplomacy, research, and skills. In fact, they were officially crowned best small delegation. You have all truly done Hillsboro very proud. Nicely done. Additional projects currently in develop include initiative to plant a semiquincentennial forest of 250 trees and a series of interactive historic maps and digital markers to be placed at notable locations throughout the community. More detailed information regarding specific events and activities will be released closer to their respective launch dates. From the engineering department, uh obviously this has been a longgoing project, the 206 pedestrian bridge. The project is is moving forward, I'm sure, at not the pace that some people would like, but the the engineer is currently viewing the shop drawings. And then please note that the fabrication of this extensive project can take up to 12 weeks. So, they're going to make this bridge offsite and then bring it in a complete manner and drop it right there. So, it's not being constructed on site. The engine department remains commitment to keeping the public informed as they
reach new milestones in this project, but it's going to be a little while yet. Recreation Memorial Day. The recreation department is looking for youth groups and organizations to march in the 2026 Memorial Day parade on Saturday, May 23rd. Patriotic floats and banners are welcome and encouraged as we celebrate America's 250th anniversary. See the recreation department website for details. 2026 summer themed camps. My children will be attending a few of them, the sports ones, but it's great that we see STEM as well. Uh registration is open for summer camps. Weekly themed options include softball, soccer, basketball, STEM, tennis, theater, and music. Check out the recreation website and Facebook page for more details.
