I completed the benches about two weeks ago, I think, and I put it in the home and visitor side, two 10-foot benches for each dugout, four total. It was a lot of fun, and it was a good improvement to the field, so thank you.

Brian Silkwood, head coach of Summit County Rugby, built the rugby fields. So we've been approached by World Rugby, so that's the international organization that controls the national teams for rugby worldwide. So coming up in October the 24th, both the U.S. national team, both men and women, are going to be in town playing at Giotis Park. And they are looking for a practice site for the two international teams to have for the week leading up. So Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, they're wanting to be out there pretty much eight to five. They won't be there all day, but they want the flexibility to come and go kind of as they need. So really, it doesn't impact our you know, high school, middle schools, or flag or anything in that regard for the most part, they'll be off the fields. But we will have both the Italian women's national team and the men's South African Springboks will be here. Actually, we have the Australian team is actually coming, sorry. Australian team is coming. So we'll have both of them practicing out there at the facility. The only thing that they ask is, We cannot make this a massive public PR because there's not a lot of way to control if a lot of people knew about it. So it's kind of more just let them use the site, use the field. They love the fields. They've already been out there. So I don't think I miss anything, Andy.

The purpose of the nonprofit is to become a child placement agency. uh... that takes in uh... kids that are in danger of going into dcs custody and uh... placing them with foster parents and uh... we've already we got established last year in july and have done a fundraiser as a silent auction and dinner in april and we're wanting to do our second one as a five k run to and to get the community involved get the word out uh... the the date would be for november seventh uh... through the morning to the two o'clock in the afternoon

What's the route for the 5K? That certain route over there picked out?

Generally the Memorial Park area, but I don't have the exact route. I'd have to walk it.

It's about a mile if you stay in the park on that little walkway there.

They were planning on like a turnaround point. Like multiple times within the park.

Good afternoon and thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak with you today. My name is Ansley Hahn and I'm a senior at Beach High School. My partner Blake and I are both members of Beach DECA and this year we're working on a project called Brave Hearts. Our project is focused on supporting pediatric cancer patients and their families through fundraising, awareness, and community involvement. We chose to support the pediatric cancer unit at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital because we wanted our project to have a real impact on children and families in our community. are why. Children in hospitals, especially those battling cancer, chronic illness, or long-term treatments, face challenges that most kids never experience, one of those being emotional stress and fear. Hospitals can seem very scary and cold to children. It's a really hard experience for them, so we want to make sure that they feel as least alone as they possibly can. Another one of those being the loss of normalcy. Being in the hospital means missing birthdays, holidays, sports and school. So we want to be a comforting face to them and make them feel a little bit more normal. Also, Bravehearts is more than just a fundraising project. Our goal is to bring our community together around pediatric cancer and create opportunities to make people feel a difference. Throughout this school year, we want to involve students, schools, businesses, and families throughout Semner County. We want people to understand that even something as simple as participating in an event, sharing information, or donating can help support children going through something incredibly difficult. Why Vanderbilt Children's Hospital? Vanderbilt Children's Hospital is the largest pediatric hospital in Tennessee. They have patients from 50 states and international. They have 363 beds and 108,000 patients each day. They're the number one children's hospital in Tennessee and the southeast. They are also the number one hospital statewide for TennCare admissions. Me and my partner Blake visited Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and for pediatric cancer specifically, they have a room, a playroom in each floor where they have games, Xbox, they have coloring books, things that make them feel a little bit more normal. The first event we want to host is the Every Color Counts Color Run, which will take place on September 5th at 9 AM at Memorial Park. Registration is $10, and our goal is to create an event that is fun and welcoming for families, students, and community members while raising money for our cause. The idea behind the event is that every color represents a different person, family, or story affected by cancer. When all those colors come together, they create something much bigger than any one individual. That represents exactly why we want Brave Hearts to be a community coming together to support children and families. We chose Memorial Park because it gives us an ideal community setting for an event like this. The park already has several features that make it appropriate for an active community event, including a walking track, multipurpose athletic field, restrooms, picnic areas, and other recreational amenities. We also want to be respectful of the park and the people who use it regularly. Our goal is not to disrupt the community, but to create an organized event that fits naturally within the park. We understand that hosting an event in the city park comes with a lot of responsibility. We plan to have designated areas for registration, the start and finish of the run, and our color stations. We also will be using biodegradable colors so that it'll get washed out in the rain. We also will have a plan for cleanup and making sure that we leave the park in the same condition or better than we found it. Safety is also extremely important to us. We will make sure participants know where they need to be, volunteers understand the responsibilities, and we follow the city's requirements for special events. We know that Hendersonville Parks has specific guidelines and procedures for special events, and we want to make sure we work with the Parks Department through the process rather than assuming we know everything ourselves. One of our biggest goals is getting Sumner County involved. We've already reached out to schools through the county and asked them to help us spread the word through emails, Sumner chat, social media, and other school communication. We want this to be something that the students and families from all over Sumner County and Hendersonville can participate in. Although this Color Run is the first event, it is not the beginning of Brave Hearts. Throughout this year, we plan to continue finding ways to raise money, spread awareness, and involve our community in supporting pediatric cancer. We want to build something that continues through the entire school year rather than one event and stopping there. Today, we are here because we would love to have your support and guidance as we walk toward making Every Color Counts Color Run a successful event at Memorial Park. We're both high school students, so we know we have a lot to learn about organizing an event of this size, and that's why we're excited to work with you guys. We want to make sure we are following the proper procedures, respecting the park, keeping participants safe, and creating an event that the Hendersonville community can be a part of. At the end of the day, Breakfords isn't about showing children and families facing pediatric cancer that they aren't alone. We believe that one small event can bring a community together, and we're hoping that the Every Color Counts Color Run can be the first step in making that happen. So me and my partner, Blake, went all across all the surrounding middle schools and elementary schools and dropped flyers and then got contacts of their assistant principals and principals and sent them all emails of if they could send it out to parents. We don't have Remind anymore, but we have, I think it's called Sumner Chat, And they sent it out there. They also sent it on emails. We've also given it to our school, so we've posted it on our beta account. We have an Instagram ourselves. We also created a Facebook account, and it also has been shared on the Sumner County Facebook account and the Beach High School Facebook account. We also plan on – we have a sign outside our school. It's an electronic sign. We actually have a design that we're putting onto that sign for the week of. And then we also plan on using school announcements as well.

Memorial Park Statue Concept Plan, Rachel Collins. Go ahead and state your name and tell us what you want.

I'm Rachel Collins. I'm one of the aldermen for Ward 5, and I'm the liaison for the Hendersonville Arts Council. And with me tonight, I have Renee Shepherd, who's the chairman of the council, and Bill Clifford, who is doing a lot of the heavy lifting on this particular project for the council. So if you have questions, they are probably going to be your people. But this is... It is my fault, not theirs. I did it backwards. I went to BOMA first. I got the project sanctioned, and now I'm here, which is completely backwards. My apologies. But this will just sanction the project so that we can begin fundraising. The city has an RFP going out here in the next week probably, and so it will probably be another couple months before we select an artist and even know how much it's going to cost. But we can't raise money without funding. permission to do the project okay questions yes and that's actually part of the contract with the artist is that's one let me step in on that that's one reason why you don't see a picture in this packet

Because we didn't want to put anything in a packet or anything until we had an exact image that was approved by the families. And the families are supportive of the idea. They definitely will want to approve the image.

We're just voting on the plan itself.

Yeah, you're voting tonight on allowing them to construct this in the park in the location that it's going to go there. And their plan is to put it in the grass island of Memorial Park. You're not getting into the weeds on the details of exactly what it looks like. But your job as a parks board at any time something's going to be constructed in the park is to approve that location for something like this.

We do have permitting that we will need to do through the Corps of Engineers. Director Gilley, I'm not aware that we need a permit through the Parks Department.

This is strictly, hey, they are building something. requesting to build something in the park, you're putting your blessing on the project and the location.

He wanted to place this on the Sanders Ferry Greenway to commemorate his service the last eight years to the city. He's been very supportive of the parks. I think I have an email in here, but very helpful with the Golf Commission and with the Parks Department and everything that we've tried to do during his tenure. So I would ask your approval for this bench to be placed along the Sanders Ferry Greenway.

She loved watching people play baseball. And she tragically passed away not too long ago at a very young age with a young family. And her brother, Eric, reached out to us to ask the Parks Board to approve placing a bench. You can see on page 51 where he would like that bench to go. That's kind of a spot where she used to sit and watch us play baseball games. But our prayers continue to be with the Altizer family.

I have her report, Mr. Chairman. I won't read it as good as she does. Saturday, August 15th, we had the Special Needs Expo at First Baptist Church. They had a great turnout. We were able to share lots of information about special needs programming in the parks. Uh, several people came out with the help of Chris and Elizabeth, her employees. We shared information to the special needs community. Next step will be the preschool track meet Sunday, October 18th for ages three, four, and five year olds. Your age is determined by how old you are on October 31st, 20 to 26. So don't try to sneak a five year old in the four year olds just to win a ribbon. Red Dallas, especially Dallas. Registration is now open on our parks website and in the office through October 1st. Three-year-olds will be at 1 p.m., four-year-olds at 2 p.m., five-year-olds at 3 p.m. Check-in begins 30 minutes prior to your age's start time. The location is the Drake's Creek Park football field. If it rains, we've secured Hendersonville High School's gym as a backup. so it will go on rain or shine. The fee is $20. It's a one-day event held each fall that consists of a 25-yard dash, mini hurdles, tennis ball throw, and again, it's children ages 3 to 5 as of October 31, 2026. All children must pre-register in order to participate. Everyone that pre-registers by October 1 will receive a T-shirt and ribbons. Thank you. Oh, wait, one more thing. Breakfast with Santa is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th. That will sell out as soon as it goes live. So everybody get ready for that. I'm not sure when registration starts for that, but probably after at least trick-or-treat, I hope.

I'll take care of hers. Fall baseball is underway with about a month left in the season. We're also excited to have the Nashville Stars joining us for our final games of the season. They'll be out there with the booth giving out treats and prizes to all the kids to help celebrate the season. Also, our fall adult men's and co-ed softball leagues and kickball leagues are ongoing, and those have been going great. And our fall pickleball league is full with 10 teams, and they'll begin playing September 14th. And then starting next week, we'll start shifting our focus towards basketball season with registration opening for our high school and adult leagues. That's it for Ms. Jasmine.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I have a few things to update on. I believe you'll see the month of September's special events list in the back of your packet. A couple things on there to note. The Middle Tennessee Highland Games, September 12th and 13th out at Sanders Ferry. The Hometown Heroes Day, September 19th at Drake's Creek. the World War II ship that came back a while ago for approval. On here, it shows the 21st. That is the day that they get here. The first day they'll be open and running is the 23rd. And then a couple other things to update on. NERF night has been set for the fall. It will be October 1st. It's $10 per child. There's three age divisions. There's 430 to 530. There are 9 to 12-year-olds. Those are typically for the kids that have sports later in the evening. 6 to 8-year-olds, 530 to 630, and then another 9 to 12, 630 to 730. Okay. Power Wheels is set for November 8th. Registration for Nerf Night has already started and it's filling up pretty quickly. It's a popular one. Power Wheels is set for November 8th. Registration for that will begin mid-September. And that is, there's three age divisions, three to four, then three to five, then six to seven. And that is $25 per car. And then our Trick or Treat has been set for October 30th. That is a Friday night. That is different than in the past, but also beach. and Hendersonville play football on that Thursday. So we're not going to try to do that the same night. So that is going to be a Friday. The park is going to be packed. It'll be fun, though. Registration is now live for that as well for vendor booths, and they are $25 as well. yes sir the you will see the park staff out this week mulching all the playgrounds that have mulch as a surface for those of you may not be aware we had a lightning strike I know mr. head is aware we had a lightning strike in the park a couple weeks ago knocked out several things involving our network and IT related issues security cameras in certain places some irrigation issues as well as lights on some of the fields, so They've changed about 25 of the 50 light bulbs at this time. They were in the park today working Soccer irrigation is back working we think And then we are continuing to work through the IT issues I can't say enough about our IT department and Jason sitting back in the back. I think he's back there. He's got his hand up, but only does he make those nice little intro videos for our meetings but they we have to work with him constantly to get things back up and running or adding things or trying to make things better they do a great job so I want to thank them for their quick work on this to especially get our concession stands operating where they could take cards and and things in a quick turnaround the maintenance staffs also we're going to shut down Couple of fields for maintenance purposes fields 12 and filled to feel to we're doing a total infield renovation and then field 12 We're installing irrigation in the outfield.

So that'll make a big difference on both those baseball softball fields Thank you, mr. Gilley Assistant director, mr. Long.

Thank you rec soccer started up their season this past Saturday and Tennessee United We'll be hosting their Labor Day tournament next weekend and then their big annual fall tournament about one month from now. Adult soccer registration has begun, and they'll start playing in September. Rugby practices started up last week. Tackle football held their first games of the season this past Saturday here in Drake's Creek, and they'll host again this coming Saturday. And flag football is still working on getting started. They're hoping to start practice up later this week or begin it next week.

I do. Thank you, sir. Fast pitch softball has started practicing. Games will start in September. The fast pitch league added a high school open division this fall. I think they have four teams. So that's a good thing that we haven't had in a while. Senior men's softball, the league that never ends, is ongoing. And their fall league has now started. Their spring league ended last week, and their fall league started this week. uh... senior women's softball new newly uh... well it's an old league that's come back as six teams i believe and they have had a first three good weeks to start out with uh... hockey league is in process of drafting teams and then we'll start practices full count fall baseball high school league is in the second week of games We've had to do a lot of shifting around due to the heat, as some of you all may have noticed. We had to reschedule a few things. The Nashville Predators Ironman hockey event is this weekend at Volunteer Park. You all approved that a few weeks ago. USSSA baseball, which came to us earlier this summer, is having their first tournament as a tournament director. they will be this weekend they have about 30 teams coming in from all over and the senior men's twitty tournament earlier this month went well according to all reports on mr. Perry's AI generated social media page that's all for mr. Bruce thank you sir director do you have your report mr. I'll be brief mr. chairman Just let everybody know we will be breaking ground at Heritage Park within the next couple of weeks As soon as we have an exact date and that groundbreaking event. We will let you all know that but that is They were the construction company was sent the notice to proceed today So we've got to clean out some stuff from the house, and then we will get started out there on that new park You probably have seen paving going on at the rugby fields They're still working on that, and they will begin paving the lot between the baseball and soccer fields this week also. So you should see that to start to take place tomorrow. Maintenance shop, we've gone back and forth. Public Works, working with Rogers Group to get us down to a number. I want to thank the Public Works Department who took a second, third, and fourth look at the plans and got it down to where we saved a couple hundred thousand dollars off of what the engineers had drawn up So after Rogers Group sends us some updated numbers, we'll begin moving dirt on our maintenance shop finally. So that's a good thing. And then also, just a reminder, at this point, all of the ticketed events for upcoming Pig Fest are on sale. And a live Saturday of the Pig Fest is free to everyone. Thursday and Friday night, you've got to have a ticket. That's all I have, sir.

And the only autograph I've ever gotten in my whole life I got from him because he hit a ball from all the way up near the concession stand almost to field number one down there. And I got that, and I put it away in a safe place, and I decided to look at it the other way, and it's all faded out. Wow. If you see Bruce or know Bruce, I'll need him to re-sign that ball.

I'd like to do another shout-out to the youngsters this evening and to all the youngsters that come across this committee to help make Hendersonville a better place than what it is. And it's just amazing to see that enthusiasm in our youth as well as our adults and everything that's being done in this community. And a giant thank you to you guys. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, Matt Barnes, the gentleman that puts on the senior twitty, I wanted to make sure that he thanked all of you all for helping him through the whole weekend. It was over 100 degrees of those guys, 150 degrees, and then the storm came on Saturday afternoon, and he was thanking you for getting those fields ready right after. They didn't miss a beat because of you all. He just wanted to make sure he said he promises it will be bigger next year. So thank you all.
