Board of Supervisors - Regular Meeting

Good morning, everyone. It's wonderful to see you all here with us this morning. We appreciate it greatly. I'm gonna officially call this special meeting of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors to order today, Friday, September 11th at 10 a.m. We will have our invocation delivered by Mr. Carter and the Pledge of Allegiance by Mr. Jamison. So if you would please stand.

Thank you, Madam Chair. Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you for this September day. And on this day, we remember those who lost loved ones and lost their lives during the tragedy of 9-11. We thank you for this approaching change of season. Fall and winter with the promise of rebirth in the spring. We ask that you be with the sick and support those that have lost loved ones. And as always, remember the children are most innocent. In his name we pray. Amen.

Franklin County Board of Supervisors moves to enter into a closed meeting in accordance with 2.2-3711A1 of the Code of Virginia as amended for personnel discussion of appointment to the Franklin County Board of Supervisors Boone District.

OK, I'll just begin by saying that we have been through a good qualitative process to deliberate and deal with the vacancy of the Boone district seat. I want to publicly thank each and every one of the individuals that applied and were interviewed. It is such a good thing to see people voluntarily walk in or sign up for public service. It's a very tall mountain to climb. It's one, though, that is highly rewarding. So I just want to express this board, we very much appreciate the participation we had and getting to know the applicants. So with that, my colleagues, if you would care to make any nominations, I will open the floor for that.

So the board unanimously has chosen Ms. Bonnie Law, and we are very confident and excited to have Ms. Laws in our audience, and congratulations to you. We very much look forward to next steps with you. And again, thank you to everyone that gave us your time and consideration. And with that, are there any other comments or issues that you would like to discuss today, Mr. Sandy? just just to clarify this appointment will be till november 2027 so this is an interim appointment yeah and thank you for for bringing that up it is an interim appointment um a press release will go out very very soon um and um it will announce the board's decision and so it will be out there in the public domain um and uh Yeah, but to Mr. Sandy, to your point, the press release does articulate that this individual will serve as, or Ms. Law would serve as the interim until special election in November 2027.

So with that said, is there- And I would just note too that there'll be a swearing in process to officially swear in Ms. Law prior to the meeting on Tuesday the 15th at 2.30.

Yeah, and Ms. Long, if you'll see me after the meeting, that would be great. Are there any other issues, comments, questions, or concerns of the board?
