County Council - public_hearing

Hi everyone, I'm John Stalen, your countywide engagement officer, and let's talk data centers. Erie County could soon have new rules for how data centers are developed. County Council will hold a public hearing on August 19th on proposed regulations covering development, construction, operation, and eventual decommissioning of data centers. But here's the important part. These county regulations would only apply in municipalities that do not already have their own local development rules for data centers. According to the Erie County Department of Planning and Community Development, communities without guidelines could be at risk of data centers being located outside areas like industrial zones or not having to go through processes such as special exemptions. So, this proposal would establish a baseline for communities that do not have their own rules.
