Alright. Good evening, everyone. Good evening. It is Wednesday, March 4, and I am calling the sustainability advisory board meeting to order at whatever time it is.
06:32? I said one. Right?
So Alright. Alright. It go it's going down in the minutes. Says 06:31. Roll call and verification of quorum. We have myself, Karen Winkler, Anne Walsh. We have Mackenzie McLasky. Absent is Ronaldo Grammy. Absent is Art Henderlong. And we have our newly departed Rick Cater here. Woo hoo. Come to say goodbye. Karen. Karen. Oh, Kathleen.
Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. I was like, I mean, I already have you
with Sarah.
Assume you didn't realize I was coming here. Yeah.
But I say because what goes in the record is
really Why didn't you Kathleen? Do you have Kathleen? It
was like, it's awkward.
Think think there's I'm sorry, Kathleen. I either I was flipping I knew you were walking in. Right?
I told Erica that you were
you were pulling out. No worries.
Approval of the agenda. Do I have a motion to approve the agenda?
Motion.
Actually, do you want to alter the agenda? I don't know officially just because it says four appointments. We have four appointments.
Five vacancies, which I can't Okay.
But we'll wait. Okay. So that's it's not an issue. Okay.
No. No. Actually, we're good Unless there's something that someone wants to do to flop it. But so motion to approve the agenda as written. Motion. And motion second by Kathleen. All in favor? Aye. And they've closed. No. Approval of previous meeting minutes. The meeting minutes from February. To approve. McKenzie motions second?
Second.
Rick, technically, you can't. Second.
Got you. I
wrote them, so it's like
Kathleen said Maybe that's how I was.
Honorary second. All in favor, aye. Aye. Any opposed? Alright. Moving on to public comment. And we do actually have public comments. So
We have a public. We have a public.
Yeah. You're not public, but you're god.
We're an adult public.
Megan, welcome. And Thank you. You may actually, I have to read my little public comment script.
You have a public comment, or are you just here to
People say it's here. I'm interested in joining the board, but, also, I've just never participated in one and would love to see what it looks like.
So k. Well, if you do have something I'll read it anyways just in case. I have to. Public comment is the opportunity for the public to address the advisory board on items of public interest within the board's jurisdiction regardless of whether or not the topic is listed on the meeting agenda. If you would like to speak and have not signed up in advance, please sign up now.
Each speaker is provided a reasonable time to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting. Time limits are determined on the basis of the number of speakers, but is generally held to be three minutes. As a reminder, public comment is not meant to be a discourse, and board members do not engage in open dialogue dialogue or answer questions. At this time, I'd like to open the public comment portion of the meeting and invite those signed up to speak. Robin, would you like to speak?
No. Thank you.
Observe the board today. I don't have any public comment to kinda add today. Thank you.
Alright. General business. Oh, can we also note Erica's presence in the Yeah. At the top? Okay. Council member updates. We have no council members present, so no updates. Staff liaison updates item b. Erica, take it away.
Alright, y'all. Put on your seats. Got a long list here. So I reached out to Evan Dillon. Emma just wanted to let you all know that she did send an email to the Zero Waste Champions about volunteering for Arbor Earth Day, and she has received no responses other than someone that didn't want to receive emails moving forward.
Yay. But she's working on it.
I feel obligated to reply. Just be like, I see you, but I'm gonna be
there in a different capacity. So no. I've already I've already resilience and action plan will hopefully be adopted on March 10. It's on the consent agenda. We did add an introduction to that just basically saying that it's a aspirational plan. It's recommendations. It's not a mandate. That was important to counsel. So fingers crossed and toes that'll be adopted on the tenth. There's a lot of discussions happening around drought right now.
So we are in a historic drought. We had a really good conversation today, but it's important to note that, you know, these are unprecedented times. Drought in the wintertime is very unusual, and there's some very specific things as far as our water infrastructure and the supply that we receive and when those are allocated and kind of when the tap changes based on historical climate patterns. So just wanted to share with you all. Hopefully, you've seen some of the videos and the communication, like, in the sustainability newsletter, but we really can't have irrigation turned on right now.
It's really, really important, and it's important to water those plants and trees by hand. That's great. We don't want them to die, but turning on irrigation for turf is really just not what the infrastructure is set up for, unfortunately. So if you see folks, and you want to have those conversations, if we can support those conversations, please let us know. It is also important to note that a lot of the water use, like, at golf courses and some of town facilities and things like that are actually raw water.
So you can also ask, like, oh, are you guys using raw water? That's a different process because it's not actually going through the process at the water treatment plant. So just if you have questions, like, reach out. Again, like, very interesting times as far as our snowpack and lack of precipitation so far this year.
Is all of your area on left hand water?
No. Actually, left hand is a very, very small percentage. I've tried to find a map of who's sourced by left hand water, and I have not been able
to find it.
You are. Okay. Yeah. So it's actually northern water. Okay. And then we'll go into different sources starting, like, April 1 and later throughout the year. Yeah. Interesting. Yeah. Northern Water is our biggest supplier.
Legislation session is underway with 491 bills introduced so far, and the total bills announced is capped at 500. So we are closely paying attention to a lot of those bills that directly involve the town of Erie. So, specifically, some of the data center bills are really interesting to follow. There's one bill that does not look like it has a good chance, but there's another that actually looks to be pretty optimistic for adoption. And it's looking at doing some requirements and giving some control to local groups.
There's been a handful of municipalities that have put out moratoriums on data centers to date just because it's a new territory. Right? And it's hard to have all that information at the local level. But this bill would actually put some more control and some guidelines in for local governments. So I'm excited to watch that.
That's literally what I do every
day for work. Yeah. This stuff. Yeah.
Anything to add about data center, though?
Oh, gosh. No.
That I could go into a long spiel. But
Yeah.
I'm working on some stuff with that in South Carolina right now and, like, local county government and county councils, and they're trying to pass a new ordinance to allow, like, battery storage and data centers in this one county where I have a project.
So that'd really interesting. I was on the phone with them,
the county this morning Cool. Trying to see like, I'm trying to help them figure out how to write this new ordinance so that they can so that it is a part of a solar project. Yeah. So I'm like, if you guys don't have one, but you wanna write one, maybe I can help you. Mhmm. But,
yeah, it's
very interesting.
Yeah. Super interesting. They're, like, kinda waiting. The county is also waiting because they're like, the state is trying like, the state of South Carolina is trying to come up with their own, like, kind of bills. There's a lot of bills coming out right now for the state, and they're kinda like, maybe we'll just wait and see what state the comes out with, and then we don't have to worry about making our own. So each state is different too, but that's what I'm currently dealing with. Very interesting.
Yeah. Super cool. I mean, if you ever thought future meeting, maybe having a data center presentation could be really cool. Definitely. Since that you're that's
your Mhmm. For sure.
And then on that note too, we have been reached out by a couple of solar and battery storage investment companies Interesting. To actually source a battery kind of storage facility in Erie.
Interesting.
Yeah. We just got an email from or a letter from another group, but I think they're looking
Are they developers or investors who are reaching out? Or both, I guess, definitely. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I wanna know who that is, but
you can
tell me later. Yes. I'm very curious.
It's 60 acres. That's kind of the ideal size. And then they Just
for storage?
Your land. Not generation two. Right? Just storage.
Okay. Okay. Yep. Interesting.
After having just gone through fire safety training on I know. Lithium ion batteries, I just man, I would be
They're different than, like, car chargers, though.
They have firewalls. Don't turn around.
Really, really cautious. Like, that is No. Put them, like, a fan of it. Concentration of yeah.
Put them in the middle of nowhere.
Yeah. Random, but I just was in a recycling conversation, and they were saying one of the most recycled the most recycled entity, which, fact checking, Rick, is lead acid batteries in The US, which thought I was really interesting. I never would have guessed that.
Well, it's quite a take back network. Mhmm. Yeah. Because you get core charges. So it's 30 to $60 on the core.
Well, and the big the big users are all the fleets and the, right, fleet companies and industrial complexes and, like, they get big rebates and Yeah.
Like, we do that because
Most recycled material in The US.
That's nuts. What is the I always hear use and water use. Mhmm. Talk about these data centers. Right? Yeah. What's the benefit? How how do you, as a municipality, generate revenue from them? So they come in our house. They put their facility there. Do we get a piece of their action? How do we make money off of that?
They pay a lot of taxes. Mhmm.
Like, extra
taxes to the county.
There's a bill that's proposed to give them tax exemptions for the state. Yeah.
Because my whole thing is, like, I'm bringing economic development to your community. Right. I'm gonna pay x amount, like, in an abatement or a filer or something like that. So, like, it's actually
incentivizing to them. It's West Virginia that's trying to put it on that they put a bill out that they have to generate their own power. Really? Yeah. So they have to generate their own power, and whatever they generate excess, they can get back.
I'm doing a lot of co located, so, like, solar and storage and then data centers, like, attached to it. You But could never generate enough
for a full data center.
Right. And then they're talking about using geothermal, like, the cooling water, right, to power the turbines. I very cool stuff.
Yeah. It's a cool world. It is. It is. Go ahead. I love to.
Oh, I
don't know, Karen.
I think we know.
Save it
for asking.
Yes. Then
we can do it.
Rules. Rules. So we are in the second phase of our capstone project for the resilience action plan. We are really exploring an HOA pilot workshop series right now. So I wanted to tease this to you all because you might live in an HOA.
I think it's too early to confirm exactly what this will look like and expectations, but we are just potentially looking at one pilot in each of the three districts in Erie so we could actually get a good representation of what folks are interested in and thinking about. So if your HOA might be interested in that experience, like, please reach out. We'll start those conversations. We are starting interviews on Friday for sustainability intern, which is really exciting. This person's gonna focus on event and outreach and education support from April to August.
So they'll be working part time, but we're really excited to to have somebody join our team for the event season. Is it
a new position, or is it
It's an internship. So okay. Yeah. Yeah. Because you had an intern,
But was he just environmental services in general? Didn't you have an intern last year?
Or Yeah. We had an intern for our greenhouse gas Oh, okay. Inventory update. So it was a couple years ago. And the internships are run through our HR department, you just have to apply for them, and then you're groups are not. And then you would have to apply again. So their building kind of establishes, like, independent experiences that you have to advocate for. So Yeah. We're hopefully gonna add another we'll have another job description out, though, for a code focused person, through the doctor cog grant that we were awarded soon. I don't have an I mean, I'm hoping the the next six months, but I don't have a closer timeline estimate at this point.
There is a Front Range Landfill tour on Monday, March 9 from ten to 12PM. It is primarily staff focused, but we have some spots. So I wanted to offer it to you all if you are interested. I highly stop
doing this during the workday. I wanna go, but I can't get I'm like, I got a job.
What job? Just leave. Yeah. Like, I'm gonna go and die. My job.
I was like, mhmm.
Thank you. Yeah. It was great. Would love I would love
if they ever do one that is not during, like, general business hours, I would They're, like, love to
go over that. Yes. Yeah. 4PM.
Yeah.
It's tough
for sure.
I can't do that. But I would love to. Mhmm.
We're also doing an Erie Green business breakfast on Wednesday, the next Yeah. It must be the eleventh from nine to eleven at the community center. So if you know any business owners that would like to attend, like, please have them reach out to me, or you can find the information on the website.
Is there a criteria on who can attend, or is it just any business owner in Erie?
Any business owner in Erie, ideally. Yeah. Okay. Mhmm.
And what's the time on that month? Nine to 11AM. That's the community center.
Yep. And its purpose is?
Connecting. So we actually we're gonna have Excel, United Power, Partners for Clean Environment. There's somebody else too escaping me, but they're gonna talk about some of their programming and opportunities and then just have, like, a robust question and answer so we can really connect folks with some of the rebates that are available. Okay. Just sent out a new a newsletter today, and there's a lot of funding available for businesses to electrify through them. Of course, that's their Boulder County side. Mhmm. But, you know, there's a lot of opportunities from the state as well. So
Okay. Yeah.
The resource central programming, we're still working on that contract to finalize. There's been some legal shifts within the towns. We went from an external lawyer to an internal. So it's been a process just because there's a lot of work to do. And so we're still working on that contract, but the program should be live.
You can sign up for a slow the flow wait list right now. The guard in the box announcements will be coming out soon in the next few weeks as well as the turf replacement program that they offer. And we're also doing a pilot HOA program. I know I've been in talks with Art and a few others, but they're actually they're programmed to actually work with Resource Central to go through some large turf conversions as an HOA, which is really exciting. So let's see how that works.
Maybe we'll advocate advocate for more funds for that program next year. It's pretty expensive because they're such big projects and a lot of design work, but still really exciting. And then just a plug with the town management changeover, there's just several projects that have been put on pause, so we need wait for new management and guidance. So if you're wondering where things are going, it definitely has an impact on staff.
Thank you, Erica.
Yeah. Awesome compost giveaway on March 28. Oh, compost giveaway. Second annual. March 28? Yep. March 28. Do you need any assistance? Sure. Or not? Yeah. That'd be great. We're also gonna have a one organics. Clinton's gonna be there. Oh, you're doing some education, and I'll reach you. Yeah.
Where is that at?
The recycling center. Yeah.
I owe them a visit. I have a large pile of recycling. They won't take for some reason.
K. Moving on to board member updates. I have several, but I'm gonna open it up first to you all for board member updates. Anyone?
On the twenty eighth did also my b hotel workshop. Oh, I said that it's on the fourteenth. Is that mean?
Change that.
Is it the library?
I have a I do. Do you
have a flyer? No. Okay. Give me some details. Have flyer. Know, all of the information. Okay.
I was just kind of like, the library is doing it. People will show up. I mean, people showed up when I didn't know advertising and just had a single poster.
That's perfect.
So So, Mackenzie, tell me that again. What date?
The twenty eighth. Same as the compost
day. Same as compost.
At noon.
Noon. Then we also have a lot of b hotels in the left. Shit. Remember how many? No. But they're in the very far back behind everything right now. So it's gonna be like Jenga. Yeah.
I think the I can look at this. Cap is at, like, thirty. Okay. And I was like, well, maybe I could open it to forty, but that's a lot of people.
That's a
of people.
Let me see if I can find the receipt.
Oh, and I have It's an hour, two hours?
It's an hour. It's slotted for two hours just on the event page. Supposed to have these ready to present.
It's not.
Are the packages that I was gonna put the seed bombs in. Gonna get feedback on you guys like them. So if anyone else has an update, I will finish this real fast, or you can all watch me fold it.
I'll just watch. I'm adding your b hotel to my calendar.
So for the 20 for the combos giveaway, is there anyone that would like to help the sustainability team for a few hours in the morning?
I can be there in the morning until my event.
It's 8AM. Eight it's only two hours. Right? 8AM? I think Do I have to wait? Let me see. I feel like it's a pretty short window. Eight. No. It's eight to eleven.
That's the twenty eighth? You said Yeah. Saturday.
We'll be out of town that weekend. It's pretty I sure wish I
had my phone so I could check my calendar.
Oh, your work phone?
Yeah. I have my work phone.
I I was at it last year. Crystal phone. Pretty much runs at I mean, like, I can mine on it because I can't deal with having. Oh, he's having
Because I have it all
in North King. I like to each other over since the beginning.
It's weird. Like,
That is a laundry that I have worked for
years. I'm okay with. Yes. I might be able to come here, but I'm like the sick man. It's not gonna
end.
So I don't answer until 7AM. Why are you saying? But it is it's hard.
It's it's really hard. Yeah.
So But I was like, I can't for it.
Yeah. It helps me make sure
break. Yeah. Mine is. Because otherwise, I was like yeah.
Like, I'm like, oh, I got an email. Yeah. Mhmm. Yep. Yep. I've already bought 10. So
Okay. Those are adorable.
Yeah. I think I wanna move these up so they're a little bit more centered. I made them like this initially because you can just, like, fold the top down.
I love how much love and energy you put into this.
And then I did the back wrong. Because the back is supposed to say where you throw, it will grow.
So I just fix it real fast.
And you're putting size in? Like, stacking?
It might depend on how big they end up being
for
where you throw it. Pressure, I can't fold it. We're all
watching against too much pressure.
But you have to split your design. Did you have anything else? Nope. No? Nothing on the Pollinator District? Not yet. Not yet. Right. Alright. Cool. Anne, Kathleen, do you guys have any updates? No. So my updates are Ronaldo verbally resigned his position on Monday. He gave me a call. And, unfortunately, verbal resignation is not good enough to fill his vacancy tonight. Oh, wow. So until the town receives written resignation from him if with an effective date Can you choose
an alternate?
Not one of the Can you choose an alternate? Choose an alternate. I'm not sure what so let me Mhmm. Let me just finish how the vacancies will work when I get to that. But so, anyway, that we have been unsuccessful in reaching him to do that.
So as of this evening, he is still technically an absent member of the advisory board right now. So compost giveaway, we talked about. Mackenzie and maybe me will go and and put in a few hours of shoveling. We are cohosting a wildfire mitigation workshop with Friends of Coal Creek on April 7. Thanks.
This was something that was supposed to happen last season, and it had to get postponed. And then it was canceled due to lack of interest. So hoping with the advanced notice and it now becoming, you know, more towards gardening season and people wanting to to think about that and the fact that we are just so dry. Mhmm. And there have been so many fires, little brass fires that have popped up. I'm hoping to get a good turnout for that. Well, is that a
Is that yeah.
Well, I'm sorry?
When is it?
That'll be April 7 at 06:30PM at the Erie Community Library. Casey from Friends of Coal Creek is getting the flyer together, and we'll have it up on the website. When he does, we can start actively promoting it. Yep. But I already My calendar. For that. And then just a reminder that you all have access to the Saved calendar. I realized that there are actually two calendars out called sustainability or SAB. So I renamed ours SAB events calendar. The other one is an auto generated calendar because we have a generic SAP email address.
So that's the one you wanna pay attention to, and I'm I'm just we'll keep front loading anything I I hear about that is something that should be on our radar. That corner, thank you, Kathleen, for the contribution to SAB's newsletter or sustainability's newsletter for the SAB corner. There is a OneDrive folder out there called sub corner that you all have access to. I've put in all of the sub corners that we have submitted since we started doing this so you can kinda see what's already been done. There's also a folder that you're welcome to throw in anything that you might have that you wanna just put in there for future being able to pull it out.
Does anyone want to contribute for April's newsletter?
I don't know if I can guarantee getting it in by April, but I will put some stuff in there.
Has to actually be to Emma by March 20.
Yeah. We have
guarantees on that, but I will put some in
Okay.
Great.
For the backlog.
Okay. Yeah. So I'm happy to do it. So if anyone else wants to do it, just let me know. Otherwise, I'll I'll go ahead and do it for the March 20.
What was that? Yeah. Is that the elevator? No. I don't know.
I'm not used to hearing that noise.
I can't.
So the door's closed. And then just one final update that we Erica and I participated in a community fruit rescue meeting on February 24. It was great to see Mel again over Zoom, and we're all really excited for the next season of community fruit rescue in Erie. I can pass along to you. I'm not gonna go through all of the highlights, but I will go ahead and forward you my notes from that.
Basically, we're looking at maybe because of the winter being what it is, she's anticipating harvest season is probably gonna be a little bit earlier this year. One of the concerns that, kinda came out of our inaugural season is that it's difficult for homeowners to know when their fruit trees are going to be ripe, and there's no crystal ball for that. But there are definitely some resources that she can pull together. And so that might be something that we kind of front load the communication on. They actually had nine harvests that were scheduled, but only five of them that ended up taking place.
The other four were canceled either by the homeowner or because Community Fruit Rescue determined that, it was past prime. Mhmm. Alright. Yeah. Anyway, they are they did get a grant for a tools library that is a check would be a checkout for people to rent you know, not rent. Well, yes, rent. There would be a nominal cost unless they can't afford it. Benevolence Gardens in Boulder is one of their partners, and so that's where the tools will be housed. And, yeah, we can people can check out equipment like pickers and whatnot. Thanks.
They are also going to be bringing on, interns. Can you remember if it was one or I think it I feel like it's more or, like, three. Yeah. I think it's That is good. To help with harvest coordination, scheduling, and all of that too. So they were excited about that as well. Okay. That's all I got. Prior action items. I went through the minutes, and it looked like the only thing that we, were talking about at that time was the SAB booklet.
And I know that Erica and I both looked at what Mackenzie put together, and I don't know if you guys remember what the SAB booklet was going Mhmm. Back in the okay. So, anyway, I think I think we can do a little more tweaking on that and maybe, hopefully, get something put together so that we have it for Arbor and Earth Day, certainly. It would be good to have a resource kind of a one and done to be able to hand people, especially at cleanup days when we're always getting accused of holding a blind in the end when people wanna get out. So I think that that would be that would be a good a good resource to have.
So do you have anything to add to that, Erica McKenzie? Just add it as another action. So it's a perpetual action. Okay.
Did you get any information, Erica, on adding the SAB to the Erie logo?
Yeah. No no update. Okay. So the challenge is working on some exploring branding, what that looks like. And so our communication contact person knows that we we wanna know as soon as there's direction, and we haven't heard anything. Okay. Item
d, Arbor and Earth Day update. I am about to submit the final application for that. I'm just needing one bit of information. I if if memory serves Mackenzie, you can volunteer on that day for Arbor and Earth Day. Mhmm. The event takes place from ten until one. It would be great to say, like, nine for setup of the booth. Generally, we have two people at the booth. Is there anyone else who can be there that day?
Or wait. Tell me what day it is.
I think it's already in my calendar, actually. And I thought you I thought
It's on the April 25.
Yeah. Mhmm. Yeah. I can definitely do that.
When I already have it
on my calendar. I went and looked at the calendar entry. Only Mackenzie had RSVP.
Honestly, I can't because I can only access the email for the this first app on my phone because of my work. Uh-huh. I can't you and I have to do it from, like, a browser. I can't do it from the Outlook app because that's what I use for work, and
I can't have it won't let me do both.
Yeah. So I can't even view, like, the files that you're talking about in there or the calendar. So probably just didn't accept it correctly. Because I can't I need to try it Thank so much. Personalizing.
And I don't I'm not sure what Art's availability is, but my my goal was for me not to be at the booth because I will probably be running around like a chicken with my head cut off. So if two of you are at the booth, that would be great. Might have my kid for a little bit. But Yeah. That's yeah. No. That that's that's great.
Jackson is attending a booth warrior.
It happens.
He can try to hand stuff out.
Mhmm. Awesome. Cool.
Okay. Item e, brainstorming update. Sorry. About our birthday. What? We will be getting two pallets of energy kits early this coming week. I know you all are very excited about those, so just heads up.
Both?
Yes.
Popular. That's when we hand those to people, they're like,
what day do you have
a bag? They're just like walking around.
We just truly do have bags. Compliments of sustainability, though. SAP did not purchase any any bags, but there will be bags that Sustainability will work for it?
Yes. Oh, yes. Yeah. We'll direct them to you then.
Yeah. Perfect. That way.
They may not have to do something.
Sign up for the newsletter. That's so chilling.
Alex, where are those getting stored?
Somewhere in the sheds. We're just gonna look. Tetris. Yeah. Yeah.
Well, maybe they won't be there for too long with cleanup day and our burnout day. We went through all of them really quickly last year.
Are we worried about storage space? Because we still have the dish tabs and the seed bombs to store in there as well.
No. I'm not I'm not too concerned. I think that well, first of all, the dish the dishtabs are actually not in there because Garica was afraid of them getting moisture like, starting to disintegrate if they got moisture in them. So they aren't even in there. I will did you bring or no? I didn't bring them. Will you bring Okay. Yeah. No. I'm not I'm not too concerned.
So We could also take over our office so we can their MED kits look really nice when they're, like, strategically stacked to the ceiling. You know? You're welcome. So we can get creative.
Okay. Item e. Twenty twenty six priority brainstorming. So, we're just gonna we're not Trello is out of commission. We can't figure out what is up with Trello. I'm gonna look for a Microsoft equivalent of that so that it's tied into our OneNote works really well. On emails. OneNote works really well. OneNote would be great. Anyway, I don't recall, and I don't know if we can get in anyway to see what was on Trello, but I think we have to start all over again anyway.
Based on our discussion from the last meeting, we we really just talked about the Pollinator District, you know, that's ongoing as a priority. The, community fruit rescue, which is basically on autopilot, although there may be some things that come out of that with, future possibilities of education and maybe even a canning program or workshops and things like that. So and then we had talked about trying somehow don't know what that would look like, but bolstering communications with the HOAs. It particular, we talked about EPR, but just the idea of being able to get in front of HOAs with some of the messaging from sustainability and from SAP. So, I would kinda like to see that as a priority as well.
Opening it back up to you guys, because we also talked about the fact that anything that we take on should really have a point person. So Pollinator District. Mhmm. Mhmm. Pollinator District.
I know Art was making headway on the no not loitering. Idling. Idling. Same same. Loitering.
Yeah. Same same in school districts. I know it's at Yeah. Yeah.
I don't know if that is still a thing, so I break down as a new fee. Okay. Yeah. We can check-in with him. I mean, that has been that has been ongoing for years. And, again, we can make it one of the priorities, but if if there's not a drive for that
Mhmm.
Then you know?
I would really like and my work is absolutely insane right now. Like, we are in a very intense part of life. But I would really like to see us get involved or with some of the schools, the local schools, and just whether that's, like, talking about sustainability, whether that's putting on, you know, presentations or something, just getting in front of the kids and talking to them about it.
Do you have any, like, specific ideas on what those presentations would be like?
Well, I really I wanted to maybe get in front of I don't know if second grade might be too young. I don't know. But talking about, like, what greenhouse gases are and you know? I mean, I talk to people in my professional life, adults that don't know and don't understand. And so, like, just education wise, things like that.
I keep intending to reach out to his school, to Highlands, to talk to them about whether or not they have a greenhouse gas inventory and what that looks like and whether or not they, you know, are interested in thinking about that. Mhmm. So I don't know. Those are things that like, that's part of when I joined. That was part of what I wanted to do. And I just don't know if I can devote a lot of time to it at least until, like, q three of this year.
But You can maybe, like, tag team.
Yeah. I also can't Yeah.
Yeah. But I care about school stuff.
Yeah. Like, I think it's important. You know? Yeah.
The other thing that might be possible is if and and, again, it it doesn't necessarily mean that we have to create the content or be the presenters. Mhmm. But if we identify that as a priority
Mhmm.
And you want to try to find another group that we
I like
Like EcoCycle. Mhmm. Like, we do with EcoCycle for the programming. Mhmm. Know, that's something that we could also Yeah.
Look at. Definitely wanna coordinate with them. Like, if they're already going to second grade
Mhmm.
Greenhouse gases, then we probably should be like, have you heard? Yeah. Well, you're all so educated.
Right. Mhmm.
Plus they're strategic as far as who gets what when. Mhmm. They, like, build on their
Yeah. I don't know. I don't understand the Ecocycle, like, training material. I don't
know what they're talking about.
They're talking about all of it. Okay. So it just really depends on how much funding and then when they talk to that. Like, so if they talk about second grade of last year, now they're third graders, so they're gonna talk to them about building out curriculum or the topic. So really strategic about that.
Do you know what eco cycle is? Do they come to your school? No. Do they go to every school? I don't know. Yeah. That's sort
of my question. Forward you guys the last two reports from Ecocygo because Kim always does a presentation usually once a year. She'll she comes in and she's gonna be
Yeah. Yeah.
I just those and send them out again. Mhmm. And that'll at least give you an idea of what because, yeah, it's different education at different grade levels. And and then there's some programs that, like, kinda if I'm remembering correctly, it was sort of an on demand sort of thing. Like, you could I do. Have programming built that not they don't necessarily come in and do for every grade level, but
But you could
know, it's there. So you can request it.
Yeah. I would like to see that. That'd be great.
Okay. Great.
The other pieces they I don't know if they do charter schools. And then they offer it to all the schools in Erie, and it also depends on if the teachers and the schools are interested. So, like, we have a bunch of zero waste kits right now that we paid for, and we're having a really hard time getting them into Really? Yeah. There's also another one, like, where
Is that part of Boulder Valley, though? Boulder Valley School District, or it was any school in Erie?
Any school in Erie. In Erie. Yeah. Yeah. And then also the field trip expense. Mhmm. So, like, Ecocycle supports, like, a, I think, a landfill tour. Mhmm. But they work with the Front Range landfill on, and the cost of the bus is really expensive. So that's another, like, limitation for schools. And then also just curriculum pressures, like, if they need to get through x amount of curriculum. Sure. I get it. But I've I've heard that there's the programming itself, I think, goes pretty quickly, but it's also, like, does come first serve. So that's where it's not, like, you're super eager and Mhmm.
You know?
Yeah. Okay. Interesting.
Yeah. We also pay for water programming from sustainability divisions budget, so that's relatively new too. So that's another option. Okay. It's through Ecocycle. Yep. Yeah.
So Ecocycle really just has a monopoly on, like, all of this. Sounds like.
I feel like water education Yeah. Start again too. Yeah. Especially You don't need grass. You don't need to water it. Yes. Yeah.
Okay. Husband wanted to turn on the irrigation this weekend.
I know. No. No. No.
Yeah. No. He was like,
I think I need
to water the grass. No. You don't.
He's still sleeping. Yes. Leave it alone. You teenager.
Don't wake it up. Right?
I have Ridwell, and one of the emails that came through was, like, if you wanted to have a, like, a Ridwell I forget what they called it, but, like, a a drive, a plastic collection drive at the school. And so I was like, well, sure. Here's the school's information. Have fun. And they were like, alright. We're sending you the stuff.
Oh gosh. Yeah.
Oh. But, like, I could highlight that, see how that goes, and then we could start kicking it to others.
That'd be awesome. Yeah.
Do you have a contact there? Like, besides just, like, like, the I was gonna invite them to Arbor and Earth Day.
Oh, that would be good.
But I don't have a good. You can have a corporate. I like the yeah.
That's really interesting, Mackenzie. I think that sounds awesome. I was thinking about batteries the same way doing, like, a battery recycle thing at school. Just have say, parents, you can come bring all your household batteries. You know? You might wanna be careful with batteries because they require
Yes. Yes. At least they know us. Same thing.
That one, I like I collect batteries at my work in secret because I don't want the workplace team to freak out.
So
I'm like, you're batteries. Over batteries. You can bring it to me.
That's funny.
You're fine. Anything else for brainstorming for priorities?
Just just to say it out loud. I think the HOA communication piece might get a little tricky just with the one group. And then neighborhood services, we'd have to really make sure that any communication will go past them.
Mhmm. Yeah. Yeah. And that's great. I mean, you know, I don't I I think however it happens, if we could at all be a catalyst for better communication to get our messaging out, however that happens, whether it's through the one group or direct HOA communications, I I think that that's Yeah.
We have a huge I mean, it's very untapped, you know, as far as these HOAs that have newsletters, and they send out stuff to their residents, and they have Facebook groups, and they have you know? And how do you get that information to them as another way to get stuff out there with obviously, without spamming? You know, you wanna get buy in from them to say, great. Like, Kenosha Farm. My you know, they're on board. Send me this stuff. You know?
I the first thing to do is to make sure the contact for HOA is update up to date on the website. A lot of contact information is not accurate, and they changed to
do like a property management company. So yeah.
So what I was Yeah. Told or what I read between the lines is that what is on the website is not what the town collects when an HOA registers with them. HOAs have to be registered in the town, and they have to do it every year. It's supposed be done in January. And that information that they collect is not what they're putting up on the website.
The website largely has management contacts, but the registration form for the HOA has the actual, like, emails of the HOA members. And sometimes it's the members. Sometimes, like with Kenosha, they opted for it to be the generic one that goes to all of them. So when you email the Kenosha board at that email, it actually goes to all five of the members, and that's not on the website. That's what is on the website is the management company.
So there seems to be I'm I'm trying to figure out where the disparage is between what's up there on the website and what it seems like the town is collecting. So, anyway and and I don't want to duplicate efforts. I don't wanna step on town toes. I don't wanna you know, the way I'm approaching it right now just because I happen to be on this board, and I happen to live in Farm, and I happen to know I've got receptive board members is when something comes up that I think that they would be interested in knowing about or I'd like them to actually put out via their communiques. And I just forward it and say, hey.
If you think this is worthy of going out to the residence, you know, please do so. And nine times out of 10, they do, which is great for Kenosha Farm.
Mine is not like that. You
know? I mean, that's not that's not a and I don't know how to make it across the board, and maybe it can't be. But I feel like that's a huge missed opportunity for trying to engage HOAs and residents of the HOAs with getting some of this information in front of them. You know?
Yeah. Because the one meeting meetings are not attended very well. We've been at all of those for the last last few at least. Mhmm. And it's it's maybe
two dozen.
At the HOA meetings? Mhmm.
Yeah. It's more like a dozen. Maybe maybe less. So
yeah. And there may be some confusion about the one meetings because it's it's my perception that the one meetings are not open to the public. They are a consortium of HOA board members that attend these. So at least that is the way it was portrayed a couple of years ago when I reached out to the board to say, hey. Are you a part of this? And, you know, it they made it seem like that is not something that just residents go to. That's their you know? So I don't know. Is that a correct assumption? I I don't know.
I couldn't tell you. I know that the meetings I've been to, there's been people that are on board, some people that aren't. Okay. And that's been fine. Usually, of course, it's people that could vote. You know? Mhmm. It's it's always valuable to have those folks in the room that are making decisions, but anyone from my perspective has been invited. But there is a new website. It's a I just typed in Town Of Erie 1, and it came up. But you can see the registration form for the homeowners association, and then you can see the contact information. So, yeah, those are all good questions. I'm happy to reach out to the group that manages the one group, which is the Erie Neighborhood Services division in
parks and
rec. But it's really kind of their baby. Right. Yeah. But I think everyone is invited with a focus on board members just because they are the folks that are making decisions.
Mhmm.
Yeah. Good questions. On a related note, Erica and I will actually be attending the annual meeting for Kenosha Farm March. You do remember that.
Is it the thirtieth? Thirtieth.
Please don't leave me. Please don't leave me. I plan to say nothing. I just made the introduction, and the board members were very open to having Erica and I join. It's via Zoom, so you don't have to go. They do all their it's the thirtieth. June? I'll send you I'll let you know for sure. But Doug Short should probably be sending out a link to
us right before it. Okay.
So it's it's all virtual. They don't meet in person in New York.
Imagine that.
Moving right along. April meeting attendees and topics. Is there anyone who knows right now that they are not going to be you guys are not going to
be Fifty fifty, I'll know. I will in a few weeks.
And then is there anything in particular that you want on the agenda for the April meeting? If there is, then I'm I'm bumping up my time, to get Michelle the agenda. It used to be I would get it to her the Friday before our meeting. Now my goal is the Wednesday before the meeting. So always know that if there's something that you want to see on the agenda, you can contact me as long as you do it before I would have to submit it to the town.
We can talk about getting that on the agenda. K. Okay. The SAB applicant review and recommendation to counsel. So in a moment, I am gonna be turning the meeting over to Mackenzie to finish running. This is the part of the meeting where the applicants that were, submitted for the open vacancies need to be reviewed, and a recommendation needs to be made. And the guidance from the town clerk's office is that, Erica and Mackenzie will be reviewing the applications and ranking all
of
the candidates. The ranking is important because it may be offered to someone and they may decline, and so you will go to the next in line for that. And if you could have the ranking to Michelle tomorrow morning, she would be able to to make that decision. So before I turn it over, just to kinda clarify, because Ronaldo did not submit a resignation in writing, he is technically still on the board. So we have four vacancies.
Three of those would be for a three year term from 2026 to 2029. The vacancy that is there as a result of Rick's resignation is a one year term, and that would be until 2027 when we actually will also have Mackenzie's vacancy reappointment or reapplying. I plan on reapplying.
Yes. That's what you're So
I'm trying to think who so who is up for there were four. So Art, Ronaldo, Mackenzie And it was Rick's. Yeah. So and that was due to the way they when they redid the ordinances, they shifted everything. And so we were we were technically up in 2026.
You guys were supposed to be up in 2028. It is now 2027 because of the reshuffling. Alright. I'm going to recuse myself, and it was suggested that Kathleen and Anne also recuse themselves. So, Mackenzie, you have the floor.
No. We'd let us know.
Let us know if
you're if you're questions. I was just gonna step out. I'm gonna say
Back. I am not going to be back. So, Mackenzie You won't. If you will adjourn the meeting, we are going to take off. Or I don't know. You guys can come back in after. I'm going home.
I'm going home. Yeah. For sure.
The floor.
Alright. Let us know who you brought off the island. Yeah.
I know. Gotcha.
Hey. I see.
Good. Good. Long is he like fear? I got him.
Look at my notes over my shoulder.
I don't even know why.
Thanks. Have to apologize. I'm
I'm sorry. I
didn't Don't tell still fit.
Don't forget your Papa John's. No. You're Jimmy John's.
I have a The other John's. In Boulder County, and then. Let me what the heck this is giving up I should look at your sense for next week. I've always looked at it. So
You're such a wealth of information and knowledge and background and expertise. And
Thanks.
Yeah. Appreciate you.
Thank you so much for bringing all that to the board.
Yeah. And I I I will continue to play with DPR this year, and I would like to come in every once in a while and just speak to it if you guys like.
That would be awesome. Yeah. Yeah. So connect with me whenever you think it would be an opportune time, and we'll get you on the agenda. Yeah.
Well, thank you guys very much.
Yeah. No.
You're Thank you. Thank you.
I'll miss the bees.
Oh, yeah.
was gonna add one of my agenda items in my dates is I ordered a shirt. The bee costume Mhmm. Didn't actually have all bee things in it. Oh. It was just like a striped shirt. Okay. And that was it. There were no wings. There was no antenna. And I'm
like, Okay.
But I but I ordered this shirt. It's
If none of you have been to Aruba, we just came back. Oh my god.
Was it amazing?
It is one of the best islands I've ever been to. Really? It's a desert island, so it's not it's punctured.
Went years ago and yes.
It's crazy. It was the beaches. Wow.
Really?
Yeah. It was phenomenal.
Thank you, Mackenzie.
Oh, yes.
I'll get I'll get the stuff from you another time. Sounds good. Yeah.
See you guys later.
Bye. Bye, mate. Of a bumblebee. Don't be a stranger. I won't.
I won't.
Okay.
Alright. It's you and me. Yeah. Now we have a camera on us. I don't think
we need ten minutes per candidate because because I've already reviewed the
patients with you.
I have. I don't think you need to even discuss. You can just make a motion. K. Great. Yep.
I make a motion to recommend Anne, Karen, and Kathleen for the three year and Megan Anders for the one year. Okay. Sounds good.
I think we do have to
Oh, and then the order the preferences Yes. Would then be Robert Cohen as the fifth, Thomas Weiss as the sixth, and then the seventh is Enrique.
William Thomas is in there too.
Oh, he would be sixth. I have them in order already. Okay. So in order, Anne, Karen, Kathleen, Megan, Robert, William, Thomas, Enrique.
K. That sounds good. Okay. Great. Well, then I don't think you're the only person that can vote. So Well, it's not even a vote.
It's a recommendation. Essentially, we don't need a quorum. Okay. So this adjourns at I don't know why I looked up there. My hand is right here. 07:28 Yes. PM, and the next meeting is April 1.
April 1. Tuesday. Alright. Thanks, Lauren. Safe.
