Village Council - Special Meeting

The special council meeting for Thursday, January 15th is called to order at 6.31 p.m. We're going to first have a moment of silent meditation followed by a pledge of allegiance.

Second by Councilperson Lightfoot-Ward. All in favor say aye. Aye. All opposed say nay. Hearing none, moving down to the agenda, F1 Village Manager Contract. Vice Mayor Martin, if you want to go ahead and start us off, and we'll bring in Attorney Geller, and then we'll go from there.

Sure, so I'll keep it short and sweet. We have an excellent candidate in front of us. We provided him with an initial offer. He gave us a really moving and solid explanation of why he believed that that amount needed to be changed. We looked at the compensation for other village managers with comparable experience and we understand that that number we think is quite fair. And hopefully the council agrees and we can move forward and get him on board. So the amount is 140, the contract is attached to the agenda item and I think all the rest is self-explanatory.

Thank you very much, Madam Vice Mayor. Attorney Geller, is there anything you want to add before I go to the council?

We base the form of the contract on the form that we used for the previous manager, Ms. Alou. The Vice Mayor, the negotiating party, had a few changes that she made and then a few things that you wanted to tighten up, which we did. All of those were added. What's left is still a good package, a little different, but, you know, it provides for the council to periodically review as we move forward, review it 180 days, and then after that, review annually. And It's a good, solid contract. It's a good, solid package. I thank the Vice Mayor for her work in working it over a little bit. And speaking for what it's worth, certainly the Attorney's Office recommends approval.

Thank you very much. We all knew Madam Vice Mayor was the perfect person for the job. You put all our trust in the Vice Mayor. Mr. Roseman, if you want to tell us what you think about the contract.

Good evening, Mayor, members of the council. Thank you very much for having me here and for allowing me the opportunity to present myself to you. I hope not to disappoint you. I hope and it's my quest to delight you. So this is how I do everything in life, you know, with the sense of I can do the best job that I can possibly do and my best is usually Better than most. Not to be not humble, but I'm just speaking from my experiences. So I think that this being an opportunity that will probably bring to an end my professional experience, I'm really looking forward to I delight all of you with my performance.

It should be less than three minutes. So very good to have you here. Always good to see you. And so I frequently... Talk about this phrase that I use which is thumbs are great, but the brain is the thing right so thumbs helped us figure out fire and pottery, but the brain is really the difference there right so in terms of experience and knowledge even wisdom I would feel more comfortable having us at the full 150 top line because of everything I just said. I don't think I need to say too much more than that. So I would actually like to move to approve this contract with the salary at 150 instead of 140.

Yeah, just if I wasn't clear, I move to approve this contract at 150.

I was going to say there's two motions. If there were no other questions coming, there's two motions we could possibly take, which is the motion for the contract as is or the motion for the contract at 150.

But that's a motion to amend the original motion. That is correct. Forgive me. All right, so I will rephrase. I move to amend to approve the contract at 150.

Okay. I didn't think he had made a motion at first, though. I think he was just saying, like, I would like to see it. I'm not saying you're correct, Mayor.

So he's done it now. But anyway, either way, it's done now. You're not incorrect, but yes.

Go ahead. Just a little bit of a comment. So yes, one of my, not to be humble either, but one of my great skills is being able to negotiate. So glad that I got you at the 140, but if it is the sentiment of the council to go to 150, I think that you more than deserve it. And when we look out at the landscape of other city managers that are out there, this is still, you know, under the compensation of like the greater body out there. So I think you more than deserve the 150. I'm just the negotiator at heart. So, yes, I will say yes. 150.
