0:55Speaker 8

All right, we will move on to our agenda item, Whittlemaker Plaque Ceremony Coordination. Jason, I'm going to let you take it away.

1:01 – 1:50Speaker 4

Thank you. Um, probably before anything, you know, it's always nice to have some idea or vision that kind of aligns all of us and, and kind of organizes our thinking and how we move together into this event. Um, just taking a stab at a fun one. I thought it'd be nice to, uh, think of this event is a way of reuniting the Widowmaker community. around the original race site and celebrate its enduring spirit of adventure and camaraderie and preserve its place in Draper's history for future generations. So I felt like that's a good way to say that's why we're here. The agenda that I shared with everybody, I want to mix things up a little bit. David Wilkes is our event coordinator.

1:52 – 2:03Speaker 7

So I'm a London... David, I think we kind of want to spend more time with them first. Cause I don't know if they can stay the whole week.

2:03 – 2:55Speaker 4

My only thought was to let Mel, uh, junior and senior talk a little bit about what they plan to bring. Cause that might inform how, you know, your team decides you want to support us as well. I don't think we have to go into all the particulars yet, but I think that might be, might be good. So, uh, Kimball family, if you wouldn't mind just giving a little introduction about yourself. And I've spent a lot of time with you folks, but not everybody in the room has. Let us know what your connection is to the race. And give us a little bit of an idea of what you plan on bringing in terms of artifacts and things you're going to be sharing with the community, as well as maybe an idea of what you plan to say at the event. Is that all right if I put you on the spot first?

2:56 – 8:17Speaker 3

Yeah, that's fine. Cool. Dad, do you want to? Go ahead, sir. Okay, well, let me, I'll introduce my dad. My dad, he joined the Bees Club about 1963-ish, somewhere in that vicinity, before they had actually had the hill climb on Steep Mountain. It was at another location over by on the Utah County side of that flat of where the cars parked. Later on in 64, when the hill climb started is when he joined the Bees Club and was just, you know, an enthusiast and got involved with the hill climbing at that point. And then won the 1968 Widowmaker, all but four feet going over the top of the 600-foot hill all the way to the north. And then, as you know, later on it moved, and it went down to the longer hills to the south, starting off at about 1,000 foot, somewhere in about 76, 75, 76, somewhere in there, I believe. And then progressed on, uh, I started writing, I was born in 1963 and I started writing at age 11 and I wrote my very first widow maker, uh, on the 600 foot Hill, um, back before, just before they had moved it. And from there on, we just, uh, progressed and. stayed in the club and helped promote and participated. You got to remember the Beast Club wasn't just a hill climb club. It was an enthusiast club that did a lot for racing in general in the state, desert racing, flat track motocross, and hill climbing. Hill climbing obviously found its niche because of Steep Mountain and becoming the Widowmaker. which became worldwide and, and especially around the U S. So I think that's kind of where I would be leaning to speak on. Um, I know that, uh, it didn't get a lot of good, uh, publicity, publicity sometimes because of the, the crowd routing us and things on that, uh, But, you know, we were talking about that earlier. We were there because of the event. And the happening is what they promoted as, you know, our announcers used to say that this was a happening. Well, the happening was out in the crowd. We didn't really have much to do with that, obviously. We were more family oriented participants. And that's kind of where I think I would not that I would dwell on any, any one particular thing, but, um, that's probably why Draper didn't have any, uh, history, you know, kept. I don't think it was really a really, I don't know how to put that. Like maybe they didn't really want it, but maybe they did. I don't know. I mean, they brought in revenue, so they had to be pretty good. Um, other than that, we will bring, uh, My dad's Triumph from that time when he rode, it's changed from the picture into another frame. The engine was moved out of that picture bike and into a custom frame in about the 77, 78, 79 in that era. But it still represents what we were doing and he was still racing it at that time. And then I will bring the bike that I rode to my two championships in 86 and 88. And I'll also bring my traveling trophy that I still have. And just some other things, you know, that maybe the apparel and stuff that we had from that time, the B's jackets, maybe some hats and things like that. Now, I do have some other club members I've talked to that have agreed to do exactly the same thing, bring a memorabilia that they have. Not everybody in the club was successful, you know, as far as maybe in the play scenes and stuff, but they did have, they kept a lot of memorabilia, so... we'll see what they come up with. I haven't got it like a, okay, I'm bringing this, this, this, and this, but I think you'll have a, maybe a table or something that you could set up for particulars, you know, like maybe some jackets and hats and best, and maybe the, you know, a helmet or something that was worn at that time.

8:17Speaker 4

David, what do you think? Yeah. Questions for them? Oh, that's great.

8:25Speaker 5

Uh, Can the public touch the motorcycles or should they be isolated from the public?

8:30Speaker 3

No, it's fine.

8:31Speaker 5

So it's fine.

8:32 – 9:20Speaker 3

Okay. I do have, of course, it would be under discretion, but we have two scrapbooks that are very old from the 60s and starting another one in about 1979 until about 84 or 85. My mom didn't keep it completely up to date after that. But we do have some big, they're large scrapbooks that has a lot of the posters, finishers, some different things on club members and whatever. We can bring it, but I really hate for that to be used much because the ones, the bindings coming undone on.

9:23 – 9:40Speaker 4

That one, Mel, if you did opt to go with that, maybe you or one of your family members sat at the table and you turned pages for people. That's really uncomfortable, having seen that, having the public just kind of have their hands on it. That's very important to y'all.

9:41Speaker 3

Yeah, well, that's the only thing we got left.

9:43 – 9:56Speaker 4

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That also brings up a question, David, for you about rain contingency. Are you You know, there's a chance. I've opened for good weather, but it is early October.

9:56 – 10:26Speaker 5

Right. So in terms of the event being canceled or postponed, that would happen if there was lightning within eight miles. Okay. If there were strong winds, wind gusts of, you know, over 12 miles an hour, you're not going to want to have the event. You can't hear a guy speak. We'd mess around with the canopies. So, yeah. Light rain, the event would still go on. So light rain, light wind is fine. It's a no rain or shine event. Okay.

10:27Speaker 3

And you'll have... Is it indoors? I'm sorry to interrupt. Is it indoors?

10:32Speaker 5

That's the question. Well, is it indoors? Is it indoors? I was imagining, I thought we were going to have it outdoors.

10:38Speaker 4

Yeah, we have shelters that we can set up, I guess is the question. Certainly.

10:42Speaker 3

Yeah, right.

10:43 – 11:05Speaker 5

Now, how many, do we have enough to accommodate the number of people that were... I don't know, because I'm uncertain of that. But we'll have some canopies, some seeding canopies, and all that's possible. Now, again, it's weather dependent. So yeah, these canopies won't withstand strong winds.

11:06 – 11:33Speaker 4

That makes sense. I would think that, I mean, at a minimum, we should have shelter for any artifacts that people bring for our VIPs to get out of the storm if we need. Do we have umbrellas or anything that we could, like if we had just open seating and it's sprinkled, can we? We have limited amounts of that. Sure. But we have some contingency plans. You bet we do. Okay, cool. You bet. Of course.

11:36Speaker 5

So yeah, we can handle all that. And are we thinking then of a formal arrangement where we'll have a lectern and a sound system and speakers?

11:47 – 12:04Speaker 7

I think so, because we'll have a few speakers. I don't have anybody from the county yet to speak. I know Kelly was inviting... Council and the mayor haven't heard who is going to come yet. I think Tasha may be there. She's a liaison. Whether anybody else is there, I don't know.

12:05 – 12:21Speaker 5

I'm expecting the mayor and or council will be out of there as well. And hopefully some officials from the county. As you develop a list of attendees, we'll confer and talk about what our capabilities are. But I think we should be fine.

12:21 – 12:40Speaker 4

That sounds good. I mean, I completely anticipate us... being unable to estimate beyond, you know. So, Val, what did you think in terms of your family and other Bees members? What was the count that you had estimated?

12:41 – 13:36Speaker 3

I had reached out to like 10 that my dad and I could put together with just numbers that we have. And we had... I think we had six confirmed members, and then we also have our family. Our immediate family has basically confirmed. Right now, my little brother, which also a hill climber and also a champion in 87, he won't be able to be there because of a wedding they have in Vegas. So there would be seven of our family members that probably wouldn't. So I'm guessing around 20 or 30. 25. It's really hard for me to put a number on it because a lot of these guys said yes now, but I don't know what they can do later. A lot of the older ones are taking it older.

13:36Speaker 1

That's the idea.

13:37Speaker 6

That was a question I had. I assumed yes.

13:39 – 14:05Speaker 5

Okay. We certainly would not be able to seat the public and speakers and VIPs all the way underneath the canopy. And that's wrong. So we can have invited guests and others and as many as we can fit under the canopies that we have. Okay. And the rest, media and staff can stand outside of it if need be.

14:06 – 14:33Speaker 4

Yeah. Last time, just ballpark estimate, we're probably going to have half. of our commission. They're half or sort of, what do you think, like maybe six some odd folks from our group. We'll have some representatives from the city, either Tasha, possibly Tasha the mayor. Certainly. So I think VIP-wise, you know, we're probably looking at, you know, maybe no more than 50. Okay.

14:35 – 14:48Speaker 5

And the pin that Jen shared Where did you envision the actual ceremony taking place in the parking lot itself?

14:48 – 15:06Speaker 4

Yeah, Jen, can you pull up my Google Sheet? Is that quickly accessible to you? Otherwise, we can figure out how to let me share my screen. That might be the easiest way to do it.

15:06Speaker 5

We're not so contingent on the weather.

15:10Speaker 7

I'm doing the recording. on this computer. So I can't turn it on. And I also do not have access to your email.

15:18Speaker 4

Can I email it to you real quick, the link? Wait, that's not your computer.

15:23Speaker 7

Yeah, it's not my computer.

15:25 – 15:36Speaker 4

Oh, let's see. So if I logged in, can you give me permission to share? Join the meeting? Let's try that.

15:36Speaker 7

Should be able to do that.

16:01Speaker 4

I do this probably 10 times a day, but not on zoom. So let's cross our fingers and hope that the world isn't going to laugh at me here.

16:09Speaker 7

That's why Phil and I do other forms. Every time I have a meeting on Teams, it's like, oh, I figured it out.

16:38 – 16:51Speaker 5

Okay, this is going to look a little weird for a few seconds.

16:51Speaker 7

We all have to stare at each other.

17:07Speaker 4

on screen, which is very awkward. But is that up?

17:13Speaker 4

There we go. Oh, sorry. Wrong one. Wrong one again. There we go. OK. All right, David.

17:22Speaker 5

This is kind of an aerial shot.

17:27 – 18:31Speaker 4

Oh, yeah. Sorry about that. OK. So let's see. Did we do a good job of getting at that? No, we didn't. I think that's probably good enough to kind of see where the positioning would be. So the plaque is... I don't know, David, what do you think? This one's probably... So here's... The plaque is... This is the restroom. The plaque is mounted... I think where this grass is now is a pad and it's like right in front of me. Oh, yeah, right there. Yeah. These paraglider launch boxes, the county said we can't do anything that makes the park unusable for its intended purpose. But to be honest, I want to ask Jen if we can challenge that a little bit because nobody flies this side in the morning.

18:32Speaker 4

It's always in the afternoon.

18:38 – 19:05Speaker 5

So if you have 50 guests, do you want to put them underneath canopies? Do you put them in the working lot? It would be best, I would think, if we could have them kind of behind it all. Yeah. So, you know, that's the center of it. So we're out in the parking lot. So right there was there. Yes. And we're over here. So we set the canopies up and the lectern the speaker, you know, we have to speak out the left turn the people be in front of Hopefully be behind them to the side.

19:06 – 19:18Speaker 4

Now, one thing we did learn is that this is a fire truck turnaround. So I don't think we can block the road there. Yeah, so we may have to do a little You know,

19:20 – 19:35Speaker 5

I can visit with the fire marshal. I think so we'll check into that. We'll create a site and we'll be sure with the fire department they approve it. So we'll certainly look at that and whatever the fire department wants, they get.

19:36Speaker 5

So we'll absolutely run it past that.

19:38 – 19:54Speaker 4

Yeah, if it were possible to bypass that for the event, that would be amazing. I think that solves the problem of the launch boxes. If not, then maybe the county can give us the to set up on top of those. They're not huge. Have you been up there?

19:55Speaker 5

I have, but I was not looking for the launch boxes.

20:00 – 20:16Speaker 4

They're pretty much overgrown with grass, but they have little hooks. So if you're deploying your wing on the paraglider, you can lock yourself down to the ground so you don't get launched up until you're ready. So the plaque is already installed.

20:19 – 20:33Speaker 5

Are we doing that or unveiling? Because it's sort of nothing like that. We're not taking off the black table cover. We're not cutting a ribbon. That's often what we do at these types of events. No.

20:33 – 20:47Speaker 4

I mean, I'd be curious to have you weigh in. I mean, if you're filming and capturing everything, what do you think is going to be the most impactful from a comms perspective?

20:48 – 21:03Speaker 6

I think ribbon cuttings are kind of boring to media. So, I mean, like David said, if this had never been seen publicly before, it makes sense. Yeah. But do we have any video clips of the races back in the day?

21:04 – 21:15Speaker 4

Well, on any given Sunday. On any given Sunday in the wild world of sports. Jen, can you share what legal shared with you on

21:15 – 21:47Speaker 7

I actually might have even been when your team was earlier this year conversation with Spencer and I think you were In part of that, but wanting to know what we can actually use. And I think they came back and said, if we have clips It won't be a copyright issue. But if we just like just showed the whole thing, it would be so we took some clips from different sources. we would be fine.

21:48 – 22:18Speaker 4

The downside I would say with that, Linda, is none of those are clean. I have searched high and low for clean clips. I do have the DVD for on any Sunday, and that's clean. But anything you get off of YouTube, it's really grainy. It's really hard to see their copies of copies. And that'll be ABC Wild World of Sports. I haven't gone so far as to reach out to ABC and see if we can get access to it. Any other thing that I've chased down has been that.

22:18 – 23:03Speaker 6

Okay. If I could get the DVD copy from you. Yeah, I can definitely do that. I can probably pull some clips that way. I was excited to hear that memorabilia is available. So anything visual like that at the site would be appealing. And certainly the Kimbells and others sharing their personal experiences. I don't think we'll have a problem with media interest on this because you've already been interviewed for it. ASL and I think once we distribute a media release, unless something really crazy happens that day, we should be able to get some interest from it. I wouldn't worry about ribbon cutting or that unless other people feel strongly about it.

23:04 – 23:21Speaker 4

I think everybody in here is shaking their head no. Anything else from comms or event perspective that we need to discuss or ask of the Kindles?

23:21 – 23:33Speaker 6

Just any photos and the DVD, if you can give that to me as soon as possible, then I can put that together with the media release. What is the date and time?

23:35Speaker 4

October 10th, and we had one of the things on the agenda today. We've got to decide on the time.

23:42Speaker 5

Are you leaning towards the morning?

23:44 – 24:10Speaker 7

Mainly because Flight Park, all the thermals start picking up at around 2 or 3 p.m. Yeah, we had, and Kelly had IV pull some data, and it's all in the evening that it picks up. So I think if we did 10 or 11, maybe 10, that way we know everything's cleaned up before it gets busy.

24:11 – 24:25Speaker 4

How does that work for you all, Mel and Mel? That's fine. 10 a.m. is all right. So that's probably, you know, an hour ahead. Maybe, David, you can give us some advice on setup around that.

24:27Speaker 5

Well, I mean, I'll have it all set up 45 minutes or an hour before the event. So whenever you have the event, we'll have it all set up at least an hour before. Okay.

24:36 – 24:52Speaker 4

So maybe that's a good time to have. now and others who are bringing stuff, it's about an hour ahead. You bet. Okay, you bet. So call it 9A setup and 10A start. That sound reasonable to everybody?

24:53 – 25:35Speaker 4

Okay, cool. okay yeah support setup support um anything you know we dave we have not just our group but we have friends too right do you need help uh physical help no shouldn't need any help okay we have staff that'll help with that you've got all the equipment so the canopies chairs the tables the lectern all that okay all that hard stuff so We talked about rain contingency. Same thing on teardown. You want us to hang?

25:35Speaker 5

I mean, we would probably want to hang and clean stuff up. You can actually take your help.

25:41Speaker 4

Yeah, we'll just count that for commission, friends of commission. Mel, don't worry about what we got you covered.

25:50Speaker 5

So is one of the locations that climb right behind the restrooms, So that's one of the locations that we have the rope there.

25:59 – 26:29Speaker 4

The plaque is aimed at that. What's what's cool about it. And I, I didn't hear the interview, but one of the things we tried to share with KSL about what's cool about where the plaque is and what it points to is that today you can go hike that thing if you wanted and you can put yourself as a spectator or a racer and imagine what that might have been like. And that's pretty dang cool. So if we were set up in the direction of looking at that, that could be a nice thing even for photo ops.

26:34Speaker 7

Does anybody race on it anymore?

26:36Speaker 4

No. We have a no motor vehicle policy.

26:39Speaker 7

Yeah, there's a rope so people can climb up it. Oh, OK.

26:46 – 27:04Speaker 4

The short-wing paragliders have to launch higher up. So if you have a big paraglider wheel, The thermals were enough to lift it up. She had a lot of surface area to get it from down in the valley for this, the shorter wings, they have to go up top and launch from up there. So they use that trail.

27:05Speaker 7

Once when we were out there after the plot got installed, there was a guy like coming down. Yeah.

27:11Speaker 4

Just for fun. He was trailing. Yeah.

27:13Speaker 7

Yeah. And I don't know why he would be up for fun.

27:18Speaker 6

Very stupid. All right. I was going to say, do we know anyone who would do a demo of that? If it goes wrong.

27:27 – 27:50Speaker 4

If there's a kid there, you'll be seeing it. Someone will do it. It's a little hard to resist. OK, we talked about attendee list. We've got that. We'll have a better handle on DHPC member participation probably in the next little while. But I think about half of us is what we figured.

27:51 – 28:26Speaker 7

And I'll be, um, Kelly was going to reach out to city council and the mayor. Um, I did hear from the county today, uh, mayor Wilson will not be able to attend. Um, and I need to reach out to individual county council members. So I'll do that. I'll try to get that out tomorrow. Um, so they have plenty of time and we'll see if any of them are interested, but, um, Lauren Brady and Chris Otto with the county's community engagement will be there.

28:27 – 28:38Speaker 4

Oh, sweet. Cool. All right. Community sponsors. Melissa, do you have a chance to chase down any?

28:38Speaker 2

No, honestly, I was kind of waiting for this meeting to see what our thoughts were. Did you get a chance in contact with, we're going to see who one of the maintenance guys were?

28:50 – 29:20Speaker 4

Remember that it's not that it meets like there was a hair shop maybe Say you were going to reach out to oh, I know what it was I remember I Can't remember might have been might have been you Mel jr You're talking about somebody that may still be open a shop that they still be open that did both sales and service on the bikes for a lot of folks and Is that a thing or was I hearing that incorrectly?

29:22Speaker 3

I don't recall. You're talking about the Edge?

29:27Speaker 4

Well, the Edge, I think it's relatively new unless they've got history beyond their current.

29:36 – 29:49Speaker 3

Oh, dating back that far, I don't know of any shops that are even around. I can't honestly think of one of them that's was around even in the 80s that is not gone. Okay.

29:49 – 30:05Speaker 2

Are you wanting me to reach out and just look for them to kind of invite people? Are you looking for just like social media exposure? Are you looking for sponsorship and participation? What is kind of the thought on this outreach?

30:06 – 30:38Speaker 4

That's a really good question. I mean, my mind immediately goes to simplicity. I mean, we want to make this as impactful and fun as possible, but we We only have a month to turn around something. So I think there's probably a limit to what we can do within that time frame. I'm not sure. Maybe, Linda, if you're thinking about outreach from a media and social media perspective, what would you advise there with outreach to other businesses?

30:39 – 30:54Speaker 6

Um, first of all, I was just seeing that the 10th is Saturday. We don't make it tougher to get media there, unfortunately, but I mean, we can do what we can. Okay. Um, yeah, I say use whatever, you know, social media is a great tool.

30:55Speaker 4

Um, so if we had shops post on their social that, Hey, we've got this big thing go on, that would be. Yeah.

31:02Speaker 2

Invite the shops to come in and use their socials to invite the community to come. Is that kind of the thought then?

31:09Speaker 2

See if anybody wants to bring new bike is a comparison of old bikes. Is that yes? No.

31:18Speaker 6

That's why I was wondering if they could still write it.

31:21Speaker 2

Cause I thought that'd be fun.

31:26 – 31:38Speaker 7

Sponsorship in my mind, they're either providing, you know, they're providing something. So what are they? Yeah. What are they providing? What are we giving them?

31:39 – 32:05Speaker 2

Right, and that I didn't have clarity on, which is why I haven't reached out to anybody. Because I wasn't sure, are we just asking them to maybe A, show up, and B, bring a bottle of water to pass out to the participants? Or I didn't know. Or do we really just want to invite them to represent their brand and bring maybe a new motorcycle to compare it to an old motorcycle? And that's that. I heard.

32:05Speaker 7

I think you just invite different community members and different organizations and whoever wants to show up, shows up.

32:15 – 32:33Speaker 4

What about this? Just imagine reaching out to Edge Sports. You call them, just say, we're having this event. We'd love to have you involved. How would you like to be involved? And see what they think. They may have some ideas on how they might want to participate that could be meaningful, but

32:34 – 32:57Speaker 6

i can't anticipate um i mean any any free giveaways for all people i don't know how big of a crowd if you're seeking a big crowd if you want a lot of the public there i don't know if they have room for a crowd that's the thing yeah Because otherwise, if the business is wanting to give a small promotional item, that usually goes over well. That's true.

32:57Speaker 4

Yeah, if they have a swag that they could give away.

33:00Speaker 8

So would we need tables for a tabling event or something and factor that in if they're going to be showing up?

33:08 – 33:49Speaker 5

No. We don't want sponsors unless we want something from them or they can give us something to enhance the event. So if Brian Green from Edge Motorsports wants to provide something the event i think that's great but but that's why we have sponsors is we need something from them and so in this case i would say unless there's something clear that we want um i don't think i would do that okay especially if there's not enough marine for sure a bunch of people to show up so maybe it'd be just an invitation to participate post on their socials ask the question you better if there's how would you like to be involved and then maybe get back with the group yeah

33:50Speaker 4

Does that seem reasonable?

33:51Speaker 7

Well, maybe it's not a, how do you want to be involved? Maybe it's a, this event's happening. We'd love for you to... And I'm sure he'd be interested.

33:59Speaker 5

He's all about everything motorsports. So he would be very interested.

34:05Speaker 2

Do you want me to kind of keep this just an invitation for Edge since they're Draper-based? Or start branching outside of Draper?

34:13 – 34:31Speaker 5

What's your... I'm going to use that Edge because I... They're involved with some of our events in the past and currently at the arena that have been motorcycle. Related so and of course he's a local business, but that was.

34:32Speaker 2

Maybe just keep it since there's not a lot of people reach out to edge and chat with them, but maybe i'll just keep it at edge unless you have another thing.

34:48 – 35:01Speaker 4

I think that seems pretty reasonable. Mel, Mel, what do you think about that in terms of outreach? Anything you would add? We were just thinking about just reaching out to the local motorcycle shop, Edge Sports, out on the point.

35:02Speaker 3

Correct. I think it's a great idea. I think your time frame is going to pinch you a little bit, though.

35:11 – 35:50Speaker 3

You know, if you have, you know, any involvement outside of – your ceremony itself I don't know you know what I mean and I understand sponsorships because we dealt with them you know as writers we we had a lot of sponsorships and we had to give them back something they were giving us something they wanted something back in return right so that's a thought okay cool But that's just my thought. If you're going to start at 10 and be done by 2, that's 4 hours.

35:51Speaker 4

Yeah, that makes sense. Kind of a tight time frame. Yeah, that definitely does make sense.

35:57 – 36:19Speaker 3

If the Cyclewise Yamahas were around back in the day, there was one in Midvale and one in Orem, and those guys were involved and still around. They were heavily involved in the hill climb because they were also bees members that owned them. So... But that's all gone. There's just none of that left.

36:20Speaker 6

What's the reasoning for having it for four hours?

36:25Speaker 7

I don't think it needs to be four hours. I think that's, we've got to be cleaned up and done by two.

36:30Speaker 4

A window of time that we can be there.

36:37 – 36:52Speaker 5

The Veterans Day ceremony is an outdoor ceremony held at this time of year. We always try to keep it less than 30 minutes. Is that what you had envisioned was an event less than 30 minutes? Or what was your thinking there?

36:52 – 37:51Speaker 4

Let me just riff on that just a little bit. I'm not set in my mind yet. I would love everybody's input on this. But really, the star of the show are our Beast community that are going to be here, right? Mel's got a few words that he's going to say. Not everybody's going to want to maybe speak specifically, but very likely people are going to have a lot of questions. So I can see having the speaking part of this not take much more unless the mayor starts talking about the point again. It's not going to take longer than 15, 20 minutes, half hour talks, but we may have a lot of curious community members that want to know more about you know, what happened here. And I just wondered if putting, you know, hard stop might limit the engagement the community has with our VIPs.

37:51Speaker 5

There is an opportunity to engage with real participants.

37:54Speaker 4

Yeah, with real racers, participants, part of the history.

38:00 – 38:29Speaker 5

It might, instead of a question and answer dynamic with the audience, after the speakers, the Kimbells would position themselves under the canopy with the memorabilia and next to the motorcycles. I think that's really where the questions, because people can get close up and talk to them. I watched it today. I couldn't believe it. Those guys were going backwards. It was just, it was thrilling to watch.

38:30Speaker 4

Would we want to have an opportunity for the media to ask questions in there too?

38:37Speaker 4

How does that usually work?

38:38Speaker 6

I'm assuming Kimball's, are you willing to be interviewed by media?

38:44Speaker 3

Yeah, that's fine.

38:45 – 39:00Speaker 6

Okay. So as long as we can give them names of people who will be there that will have interesting things to share, like the Kimball's, then I can just include that in the media release. And as long as they're on site, then I can help. Correct.

39:00 – 39:12Speaker 4

So does it help in those circumstances to have a hard stop so that the media knows that, hey, we're opening this event up so people can kind of go look at the memorabilia and things like that?

39:12Speaker 6

As far as the media is concerned, they'll be in and out on their own, you know, whatever time. Yeah, but I would not advertise it for more than an hour, probably.

39:24Speaker 6

It's just, David?

39:26 – 39:39Speaker 5

Yeah, and if the speakers take 20 minutes or 30 minutes, then that would leave you another 40 minutes or 30 minutes to have that audience memorabilia and participant interaction.

39:40Speaker 4

And then we're still comfortably under when we would absolutely need to tear down stuff that went.

39:46 – 39:59Speaker 5

And with the media, they'll... will ask for them to appear before the event or right after the event. So the media is not shy to muscle in and ask for their time.

40:00 – 40:17Speaker 6

That's just for our advertising purposes. If people want to hang out after and the Bees Club members want to hang out, you know, as long as it's just in the time frame that you've been given, then that's fine. But I think just... for the public's and the media's purpose just to advertise that hour.

40:17 – 40:28Speaker 4

So what does everybody collectively, what are we thinking that seem reasonable? Trying to get it to a half hour in terms of speaking? Yeah, I can probably even be like that.

40:28 – 41:09Speaker 7

Advertise it for an hour event, plan on more than 30 minutes for speaking, and then 30 minutes for people to ask questions, check out the memorabilia, that kind of thing. you know, we may decide we need to adjust that a little bit as we see who can attend, you know? If we've got multiple politicians that want to speak, that we may need to increase that time a little bit versus if, you know, we have one and, you know, so. Very important to start preparation. Excellent.

41:11Speaker 4

And we got a little extra money too from council.

41:13Speaker 7

Yes, the council. Well, no, the council's extra money is for the across the civil service.

41:20 – 41:58Speaker 4

Oh, okay. Yeah. Cool. Speaking of snacks, Tasha had got an okay from Kelly to have the city do that. And right now nobody, nobody owns snacks. At least I don't think unless somebody already volunteered for that. How do we want to, Jen, how do we want to handle the snack? Like we're thinking probably just water and I'm not smart on what snacks should be for this.

42:01 – 42:12Speaker 7

I think it would just be getting water and some cookies and granola bars and yeah. Something to buy and produce a lot of trash. Yeah.

42:13Speaker 4

Okay. So I just put Tasha and Kelly here, but I'm assuming that it's going to be one of us that are going to have to probably handle that.

42:22Speaker 7

Not necessarily.

42:24 – 42:36Speaker 5

So at the Veterans Day, which is November, November 11th, we'll do cookies and hot drinks. Okay. Cookies and hot drinks is what we've done. Okay.

42:36Speaker 4

So what's the best way to arrange that then?

42:41 – 43:09Speaker 5

You get the, well, you get the city council member to talk to Kelly. And so you've done it. You've done that. We've done the heavy lifting there. So yeah, normally we would take care of that. So the thing there, again, it's hard to gauge, just like with the Veterans Day, it's hard to gauge with attendance, but we're equipped to do that. So certainly put us down for that.

43:10Speaker 1

Cookies and hot drinks. Had a wrinkle. Just a little wrinkle.

43:16Speaker 7

When you say cookies, I would love to see motorcycle-shaped cookies. I heard David.

43:25Speaker 4

The gauntlet's been thrown down. Yeah.

43:37 – 43:52Speaker 5

It's a very cute, great idea. I'm not going to shoot that one down. Now our city budget may not be able to accommodate that. Certainly that's a great idea.

43:56Speaker 8

Circle back to that in-kind donation thing we talked about earlier.

44:00Speaker 5

You get yourself a sponsor willing to supply a few hundred motorcycle cookies. Yeah, we're right circles. Yeah. Yeah.

44:08Speaker 8

So we would say no, but if somebody else like an edge sports has a bakery. Yeah. I'll make a note of that.

44:34Speaker 6

Yeah, maybe if you would donate, and we can just give them a shout-out, you know, treats provided by Edge Sports.

44:41Speaker 2

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

44:46Speaker 5

Or even a little sign on the table.

44:48Speaker 6

They give a table, yeah. OK.

44:52 – 45:17Speaker 4

I'm just kind of looking through the list. I know our time is valuable. Have some things in here about speaker order, but I don't think we can answer those until we know who's here. And I think, I mean, if the mayor has an opinion that he wants to open, then I think the mayor's going to open, right? Isn't that usually the procedure?

45:18 – 45:36Speaker 5

I would think you need to elect someone to emcee it. If the mayor is going to be there, I would certainly give him the option if he still chooses to speak.

45:37 – 45:50Speaker 7

Tomorrow I'll email the county council and I'll touch base with Kelly to see who she's heard from because I know she was going to reach out to the Perry Port Council and the mayor and see who's available. So I'll reach out to her.

45:50 – 46:03Speaker 4

Okay, perfect. And I'll accept the MC job. And as we get input from people, we'll kind of circulate what we think the speaking order should be and have everybody weigh in. How's that?

46:05 – 46:37Speaker 4

Okay. I guess the only other thing that Maybe outstanding is, okay, we've got a countdown. We've got essentially a month away. Do we want to touch base as a group before we launch this thing? Kind of me, I feel a lot less nervous about things and we could do that.

46:37Speaker 5

And that would be part of the next meeting?

46:40 – 46:52Speaker 4

It could for me because I'm out of town, unfortunately. Yeah. And my other event that I'm planning is actually in the evening. So I'm on tap.

46:52Speaker 7

There's, there's no way I can We can look at having a meeting on the 30th.

46:59 – 47:14Speaker 7

Or, I mean, you guys are allowed to have Small, you know, subcommittees that if you guys want to meet coordinate can You know, a couple of you can't all just meet.

47:14Speaker 4

So we would say that... So isn't the rule, like, we wouldn't be voting or making decisions?

47:22 – 47:46Speaker 7

Yeah, you can't make decisions. But if you guys are coordinating, you know, we know there's an event. So if it's coordinating who's going to speak first or coordinating who's going to go pick up the cookies or, you know, whatever, that's... I'm not going to consider that, you know, a decision because it's not something everybody's voting on.

47:47Speaker 4

Right. But we wouldn't meet and say, well, we're going to do it the day before. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

47:51Speaker 7

Yeah. You can't do that.

47:53 – 48:10Speaker 4

Yeah. That would that would that would make sense. You said the 30th. I will be in the Grand Canyon Parachat. Hopefully not looking at a single soul. Oh, that's October.

48:11Speaker 8

Happy Halloween.

48:13Speaker 4

Okay. September 30th. Yeah. What do you know? I'm here.

48:22Speaker 4

Yeah. I mean, that'd work for me if it works for us.

48:32Speaker 7

Yeah. And I can put out an agenda and we can.

48:35Speaker 7

have a meeting here if you guys want.

48:40Speaker 4

You know, I don't think we'd need you all, Kimball's, but if we could give you a call if there was a question, would that be all right?

48:53Speaker 4

What day is that? The 30th? The 30th of September. Wednesday, yeah.

49:00Speaker 3

Wednesday, middle, okay. Yeah.

49:03Speaker 4

I don't imagine there'd be anything beyond what we've talked about already. If there were, it'd probably be just a simple phone call.

49:10Speaker 1

Okay. You know, if I may.

49:15 – 49:53Speaker 1

I'd like to just elaborate a little bit on how the name Widow Medicare was coined. In 1964, I think, was J.D. Thurgood. And Bob Ralston, Bob Ralston was the president of the Bees Motorcycle Club and J.D. Thurgood was the vice president. And they were looking for a new hill. And they came around on the Draper side and they looked up at that mountain there and they said, now that is a Widowmaker. And that's how it was coined.

49:54 – 50:25Speaker 4

Did we catch this on recordings? yeah okay cool yeah that's awesome okay and i would agree with that too so i'm not sure if i didn't want to hike up that thing cool um any anything else that we're missing um anybody have any thoughts that we had is he going to share that at the thing yeah that's a good question though are you going to share that at the event or do you

50:27 – 50:47Speaker 3

Well, I told him this was all about him, so he was supposed to be doing this, and he's like, whoa, hey, I might have a bad leg or something. He is 89, just so you know.

50:52Speaker 4

Well, I'd say if you want to say something, look at me. I'll MC and I'll look right back at you and hand you the mic. So if you want to say something, you can.

51:03Speaker 1

Okay. Sounds good. Sounds good.

51:09Speaker 4

All right. I think we have what we need. Okay. Yeah. Thank you, everybody. Thank you. Thank you.

51:18Speaker 7

Yeah. I don't know. I didn't. actually write them down. So I don't know if we really need to take too much time going over them. I think we all know what we're doing.

51:28Speaker 8

Yeah. All right. Can I get a motion to adjourn the meeting then?

51:34Speaker 6

I move that we adjourn. A second.

51:37Speaker 8

All right. And all in favor? Aye. Meeting adjourned. Thank you. Thank you.

51:43Speaker 1

Next week. Oh, for this? No.
