Like to welcome you to the City of Deer Park Board of Adjustments Hearing Meeting today 08/04/2025 at 06:20. Madam secretary, would you like to read the notices? Thank you very much. So if this is your first time here, this is what will happen. We're gonna run these six hearings concurrent.
We'll start with one. You'll have three opportunities when asked for those four to come up to speak. You'll need to say your name and your address and you can make your statement. And then we'll call for three against. Same thing, please put your name and record for your address on record. We'll start with the first one. Kent Smith is requesting a five foot variance to the height of an accessory structure to be constructed at 1809 Middle Lark Street. So I will now open it for three calls for. This is the first call. Speaking in favor.
Hello, Kenneth Smith. I live at 1809 Meadowlark. I requested the five foot for an auxiliary building. I wanna put a, like, a garage type workshop, and I wanna put car lifts in there. And to put a car lift, I need a 12 foot height on the side, which will take the building over the 15 foot maximum.
What else?
Any other comments? Is that it?
Oh, there there was some questions. The house, my house did get hit by the tornado. I've got some siding that's off and chimney cap that's off. Hired somebody Sunday to take care of that. I had two other contractors that never showed up. And I fall with the insurance for over two years trying to get paid for that. So that's why it took a little time.
I've got to tell you that I actually drove by your home and I did see that and I wondered what was going on there because you have such a beautiful home and that was going on. So that makes a lot of sense. So I'm glad you finally gonna get some help there.
Thank you. Thank you.
Okay. Any other questions that you all may have? I do have one question I was gonna ask you. One of the things I read that what you're trying to do, you're gonna go with like the cosmetic stone up about eight foot and then you're doing the hardy plank. Is that still what you're gonna be doing on it?
Yeah. We want we wanna make it look like the house and we did add stone to the house and it's got 12 inch wide hardy plank.
Right.
So we wanna make it match the house and be as non intrusive as possible for the neighborhood. So Well,
I think it's gonna look really nice if you do build it and stuff.
Thank
you. I also wanna mention to you that you actually did this request about a year ago. Tomorrow will be a year ago, is that correct? Yes. And I'm really glad that you came back to make sure that you're in good standing to do that again. I don't know if everybody thinks about doing it. It's really only good for about ninety days and you come back after this period to make sure you had the proper okay to do it. So I appreciate that very much. Yes. Any other questions from any of the commissioners?
Thank you very much, sir. Thank you. I'll now call for a second call for I will now call a third call for. I will now call for someone to speak against. A second call to speak against.
Third and final call against. I'll close this one. Our next one is Gabriel Gonzalez is requesting a nine foot four inch variance to the width of the driveway to be constructed at twenty two eighteen Kingwood Drive. I will now call for someone to speak for. Yes, ma'am? That's me. That's you. Go ahead behind the mic and state your name and your address.
Gabriela Gonzales, 2218 Kidman Drive, Deer Park, Texas.
Okay.
And
Why are you wanting to do it?
We wanted to get the well, actually, it the work is already done for make the driveway a little wider because we have four vehicles. We have the baby. We have to open the door. So it wasn't actually functional for the four vehicles that we have. So that's why we made it a little wider though.
Okay. Just to let you know, did drive by there this afternoon, took a look at it. Mhmm. And it does look like it was very nicely done. So I'm glad y'all did it. You still have to have permission. So I'm glad you're bringing it to us as well on that. Did y'all have any questions y'all like to ask her about?
No.
This driveway has already been put in and she's just making sure she's got the proper authority Thank to do you very much.
Thank you.
I'm calling for a second four. Someone like to speak for this for a second time. Calling third and final four. I will now call for anyone that would like to speak against this. A second chance to speak against.
A third and final speaking against. I'll now close this one again close this one at this time. Thank you. Our next one is Larry and Sonya Durell are requesting a five foot variance to the width of the driveway to be constructed at 2209 Kingwood Drive. I'm now going to open it for someone that would like to speak for it. You're I'm Hi. Tom
Hi. We live at 2209 Kingwood Drive and we are wanting to extend basically from the sidewalk to the street. So we have an extra driver and getting into our driveway is hard with all the people parked on the streets and stuff. So we're just trying to widen at where you come in. Me and my daughter don't keep riding over the sprinkler system and stuff.
That could be helpful.
That one.
Okay. Thank you very much.
You're welcome.
Someone else would like to speak for it? Third and final chance to speak for it? I now will call for anyone that would like to speak against it, first call. Anyone speaking against it, second call? Third and final call speaking against? I will close this session. Next on our list is Derek Walker is requesting a variance for a carport not attached to a garage to be constructed at 2120 Plunkett Street. Do do I have someone that like to speak for it?
Hello. Derek Walker. 2120 Plunkett Street. We have a 40 foot travel trailer that I'd like to cover and protect from the sun when not in use and wanna go longer than the 20 foot and there's not a way to attach it to the the garage. It's and then close one foot off the property line to match the driveway that's there.
Is it going to be in front
of the garage? I'm having a hard time reading your pictures.
So the in the very back corner, that's a 21 by 21 metal building that was there when we bought the home. Okay. It's gonna go from in front of that to the edge, the very edge of the house.
So about half of it's hidden?
Yes.
In a sense.
Yeah. And it's 35 feet from the gate to where the carport would stop behind the fence.
The gate at the back corner of the house? Is that where you have it or?
It's at the front corner of the house.
The front corner, And how wide is that between the house and the fence line?
Oh, I want to say it's 11 feet.
So you got enough to pull, it's tight but
you can move Oh yeah. Okay.
Any other questions from any the commissioners? Thank you very much.
Thank you.
I now will call for a second for the proposal. Third and final call for. I will now call for anyone liking to speak against. A second call to speak against, and a third and final call to speak against. Thank you. I'll close this one. Next one, Derek Walker is requesting a 20 foot variance to the length of the carport to be constructed at 2120 Plunkett. I thought you're just going say ditto.
Derek Walker, 2120 Punkett. Would like to have the carport 20 foot longer than, I guess, the standard to be able to cover the length of the travel trailer.
Greg, I was going to ask you on the length and stuff that still falls in our parameters or?
Yes. That's your maximum length on the carport even though it may be going up against a building that's detached no matter where it is. The ordinance says if it's more than 20 feet, we can permit it without a variance.
You didn't see no problem with it then?
Especially in the location.
Okay, thank you. Any other questions? Just hold what you got. Do we have yes, anyone else wanting to speak in favor of this? Third and final call to speak in favor. I will now allow anyone that would like to speak against this. First call. Second call speaking against. And third and final call speaking against. I will close this one.
Last but not least, Mr. Derek Walker is requesting a four foot variance to the side building line for the carport to be constructed at 2120 Pluckett Street. All in favor? Who would like to speak for it? So you're back again.
Back again.
Yes sir.
Wanna go one foot off the property line to match the driveway. The driveway is one foot from the property line as it is now. So in order if I stay five feet off the property line, won't be able to get the travel trailer back there because the post will be in the middle of the driveway.
So you're going one foot farther over is what you're saying?
One foot from the property line.
One foot from the property line.
Yes.
Okay. Anything about that Mr. Greg?
No sir, if the variance is approved and he applies for the permit and I will ask him to put a gutter on it.
Yes. And
that is
the plan already. The gutter with the downspout going in. We have a drain in that one foot section that runs both east and west to the storm sewer lines and we'll have it piped into that for any rainwater runoff.
And I apologize, I may have missed it. I wasn't looking at that time. Do you have a company already lined up to do this? Yes. And who's going do that for you?
Anthony Reyes with Reyes Concrete.
I'm familiar with him. Yeah. Okay, very good. He does quality work by the way.
Yes, I've used him for everything we do.
Okay. Any other questions from any of
the And this is going to have a gutter so it won't bother your neighbors?
Yes, ma'am.
Okay, thank you very much.
Thank you.
We'll call for a second call for the variance. The third person they would like to speak for. I will now call for anyone that would like to speak against the variance. The second call to speak against the variance. And third and final call to speak against the variance. In that case, I will close this meeting.
