Notice is hereby given that the Board of Adjustment of the City of Deer Park, Texas will hold a public hearing at City Hall 710 East San Augustine Street, Deer Park, Texas at 06:20PM on the 06/02/2025, at which time and place that we'll hear all persons desiring to be heard on or in connection with any matter or question relating to the request from the following. Wayne Hunt, an American Awning and Carport Company for a six foot variance to the front building line to construct an awning at 1108 East 13th Street. Mario Perez, the Desma, and Deborah Reyes for variance to a carport not attached to a garage that was constructed at 1937 Kingsdale Drive. Mario Perez LaDesma and Deborah Reyes for a four foot variance to the length of a carport that was constructed at 1937 Kingsdale Drive.

Thank you. We'll start with the first one being 13th Street. The we'll start off with people who wish to speak for and if there's anyone who wants to oppose, they'll have an opportunity to oppose. My name is Wayne Hunt, 1108 East 13th Street, here in Deer Park. All I'm doing, I have already have a covered walk over my sidewalk to the front door. I'd extended my front porch to the side a little bit. I just want to continue that awning towards the side of the house. Not no closer to the street, but I already have existing.

Okay. So

it's a six foot variance from the guidelines to the sidewalk. Okay. For the code. That's all I'm asking for.

It's just basically because we like to sit out in the evenings on the front porch. That's basically what it's for also. And I want to extend it to that other carport that's there. Only that way, if my stepson, either way he parked on this side or that side, he's in a wheelchair, he can get to the front door without getting wet if it's raining or whatever. So he can park on either side, but mostly it's just for us to be able to sit out there and cover our front porch that we had done.

afternoon. My name is Sylvia Perez. I'm here with my uncle Mario Perez. He's the one in Kingfield, should say, 1937 Kingfield Drive.

Okay, so he's the one who's actually requesting the variances. So according to this paperwork here, you're asking for to be allowed to build a carport where there's the garage is technically not attached to the house and that it would not be attached to said garage. Is that correct?

All right, let's talk about your other variances that you're asking to be a little bit longer than the city normally allows. Four feet, a four foot variance on the length, is that correct?

He wasn't really aware of that there was a limit. It's already built actually, but he wasn't aware of the fact that there was a limit to it. If he had known, then he wouldn't have made it that tall.

He wasn't really trying to, like, bother anyone. He was just trying to, I don't know, make it look nice and everything. And also for the fact, I don't know if you guys remember last year, we had that little problem with the hailstorm, that was So the hail it costs a lot of money to get the cars, like, you know, get the dents out, get the windshield prepared and everything. So that's basically another reason, I extended it longer because they didn't want any more damages to the car. It was very expensive fixing those cars. But he wasn't really aware of the fact that there was a limit to it. He said he if he had known, he wouldn't have done it. Okay. Well,

if he had gone into the sidewalk, of course, that would have been a different matter. Curious, why did you choose to put tile on the roof?

He said that if that wasn't allowed, he wasn't aware of it, but he was just doing it to make it look nicer. You see him and my father work as floor remodelers.

And sometimes they're they have owners that from houses that, oh, this is extra. You can just throw it away. So they just use it as recycling matter. They add it to little things, you know, for for the garden or things for the house.

I think my only question is, I guess if it were a hail issue, why would you not attach it to the actual garage?

So he did try to look into helping us build it, they said there was no way that could happen. So if anything on a hailstorm, they would just park the cars underneath the subway.

My name is Eloy Salais, and I live on 2002 Kingston. I live they live right we're neighbors, but they're on Park

And I figured that thing is so big and it doesn't go with the house. Roof, it doesn't make it doesn't match anything in the neighborhood. I'm worried about hurricanes or tornadoes, having those things in they're either gonna be in the street or they're gonna be in my in my my driveway. And my cars are my carport is attached to my house. That's the only concern I have, the roof. And it looks like it's, me it's a little bit too tall. It looks weird because it's not attached to the

Okay. Our, board unfortunately can't really rule on cosmetic issues. We have to follow the city codes and the building codes that are already laid out for us. But your opposition is noted.

The branches were this big. It snapped them like nothing. Wiped out my whole backyard and everything was gone. So I'm just worried about big storms. That thing is not a test or not.
