We're getting this.

0:45 – 0:59Speaker 6

Let me call to order the 1,901st meeting of the Deer Park City Council. We're going to open up with our invocation by Councilwoman Georgette Ford and the Pledge of Allegiance by Councilman Eric Ripley.

1:02 – 1:44Speaker 2

If you'd all join me in prayer, please. Father God, we thank you so much for this country. We thank you for this state, and especially we thank you for, dear Park, all that you have done and blessed us with. We don't take that for granted, God. We appreciate everything that you do for us. We ask you to bless each one of us and help us to make decisions that are right for our city, and we ask you, God, to please be with each of us and our city as we go forward with everything that we have going on, God. We see all of the blessings in everything that's happening around us, and we ask you to continue to bless that and to work with each of us in this city and with all of our staff and all of our council. It's in your holy name that we pray. Amen. Amen.

Eric Sanchez

2:52 – 5:55Speaker 1

Good evening. My name is Eric Sanchez. I came here a while back. I'm sure some of y'all remember me. And so I'll just be honest. I didn't appreciate Mr. Chief here. He said I was being a pest. He called me a pest. He didn't appreciate that I was asking some questions about this man's death. What you're seeing in front of you is a picture from, I believe, the 1959 or 1969, Deer Park High School yearbook, I believe. It's been a while. And so just to put a face to the person, So my big issue with this is, along with the five people between 1971 to the year 2000 that were in custody death hangings, there is, along with him, there's no booking photo of them the night that they were booked in. Every officer swears they did everything correctly, yet when I've asked the city of Deer Park or the city of Pasadena, they can't produce a photo for them. So I think the least they could do is produce a photo that they actually arrived in good condition. I already know Mr. Boatwright's condition was not good in the report itself. It's only like two pages. It's not a real in-custody death report. It's like two pages. The other ones I requested, the ones that I have managed to get, they're like 100 pages almost. I mean, but in the report that they have of him, he was injured, pretty injured. They didn't take him to Bentob. They just packed him up, took him to jail. And then that day, he just decided to take his life. No suicidal ideations. I have no idea what happened to his family. It's too far to find, but the family members I can't find of other people in Pasadena, I mean, they also don't have... Even more recent things, in the year 2000, I asked Pasadena for... Just let me get the photo. They gave me a photo from the sheriff's office from 10 years ago, before the death. I'm like, okay, well, that's not what I asked for, is it? Nor why do you have that in your possession? You're just picking and choosing what you want to give me. And they closed the request out. So clearly, I mean... I don't understand what Mr. Chief, the Chief wants to, I guess they'd rather people speculate that these officers killed these people than just to actually produce some kind of evidence that no wrongdoing was, any kind of, anything to remove doubt, whatever you want to call it. I think I should be able to find one out of these six people, and I have found zero. It's nothing but... Stop asking. We don't have that record. Who cares? It's a long time ago. Stop digging. As soon as I started talking about one of these, they started tracking my car with the flock cameras. And then 30 days later, they raided my house with a whole SWAT team over some charges they've made up. And I went through all that, and I'm cleared of it. And yet, everyone still wants to just deny, deny, and forget about it. Thank you.
