Let me call to honor the one thousand eight hundred and ninety six meeting of the Deer Park City Council. We're gonna open up with our invocation by council and Georgette Ford, and the pledges are gonna be handled tonight by the scouts who are with us tonight. Right. Excellent.
Bow your heads with me, please. Father God, thank you so much. We realize all the blessings that we have here in this community. We thank you for bringing these scouts here tonight to learn about our community. We look forward to having many future leaders from all the children that we have, and we enjoy this big quality of life here in Deer Park. And we look forward to all of the blessings that you're going to bring to us in the future, God. We thank you so much. In your holy name, we pray. Amen. Amen.
Audience, will you please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the flag of The United States Of America Honor the Texas I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state, under God, one and indivisible. Thank you, guys, so much. Thank you. We Does anybody sign up to speak?
Yes, sir. We have one person. William Hannah. You'll come to the podium.
I think that's you. You were looking around like there was somebody else with that name in the room. She brought an e bike rider.
And you'll say your name, your address, and you'll have three minutes.
Right. My name is William Hanna, 1702 North Parkside Drive, Deer Park, Texas. I'd like to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to speak tonight. Just bringing up the electronic e bike regulations that are being proposed to consider tonight. First off, reading over them, it looks like you all put a lot of thought and consideration into it. So definitely appreciate that approach. Obviously, it's a lot easier just to say no and shut everything down, and that makes things easy. But I don't know how many of you all have teenage children,
children that are
coming up. But these e bikes, they're going to rapidly replace the normal pedal bikes that we all grew up with. I mean, they're here to stay, they're only going to become more the majority. So looking at the regulation, specifically rule number 10 about them not being able to ride their bikes or come into any of the city parks is we're just encouraged maybe the city council, you all to take a little bit more of a look at it, see if there's more solutions to be able to enable our children and those using the e bikes to be able to use the city facilities and parks. Because I think we can all agree that getting children out of the house, whatever way we got to do it, and using the parks is a huge step in the right direction.
We're getting them off electronics. We're getting them off video games. My son, Zane, he loves getting mean, he just likes going out and going for bike rides. And I mean, we love to see that. That they like to ride everything. And I mean, we got new phenomenal facility to that and other parks that cities built, provided for. And so I think it's very important just to be able to still give the kids, especially, the opportunity to use these e bikes. And then also, if gas prices keep on going like they have been, we all may be riding e bikes everywhere. We don't want to rule e bikes. They are.
But I don't know exactly what the answers are. There may be some sort of education that probably needs to be required because also, any of y'all that have teenagers know that common sense is not a factory issue item. It normally comes with them. Also, it's on back order. It seemed it's hard to get it ingrained in them.
So maybe some degree of education, whether it's a city program or maybe something cooperative with Deer Park Independent School District to start maybe pushing some driving education and rules of the road education a little bit younger. Because these e bikes, they do travel upwards of 30 miles an hour. And so
It's Okay. Go ahead. I'm Keep out
of time. I get a little bit long winded. Anyway, if they could just take a look at common sense approaches and maybe not just totally ban the e bikes from all the city parks. That way, children in the future of their park have opportunity to use them. Thank you.
Thank you.
Anybody else sign up?
