City Council - Regular Meeting

Well, I've got six o'clock. We'll call this regular meeting to order. May 11th to 2026. Ty, you want to give the invocation? Yes, sir. Heavenly Father, Lord God, we just come to you tonight and we thank you, Lord, for all that you've done. We just pray that you be with all the city, Lord God, for those who have lost loved ones lately. Lord God, just just comfort them and love them. Lord God, we just pray that you continue to bring moisture, Lord God, and keep this drought away and be with all of our first responders. It's in your name we pray. Amen.

To the flag of the United States of America and to the stand, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I flag. I pledge algiance to the Texas one and indivisible. We'll move on to the consent agenda. Approval of minutes from April 27th. We have a time to look at those. I'll entertain a motion. I'll make a motion that we approve the consent agenda for April 27th, 2026. No second.

Get used to this now. Uh, I will say this. Uh, JJ and I actually had lunch today and, uh, the text guys on them mentioned this because we've had a few people uh, asking and saying they want to get the uh, traffic light fixed down there 87. Well, they have to drill at what did he say? 14 foot 14t deep because it broke all the concrete when they hit it this time. So, they're waiting on contractors and I don't know if it's going to be done before XIT. So, we'll just have to wait and see. Figured they were waiting until everybody stopped hitting it.

Oh, that's what I thought, too. But when people would you would you fix it? Keep hitting it. Why would I fix it? The problem is they're going to put it right back in the same spot, right? Yeah. Yes. That's pretty much all they can do unless they put it in a fire. Actually, I I asked him. And I said, "Well, thought maybe y'all were going to put one of those that they go across intersection with a great big pipe that goes across." And he said, "No, probably not. Probably just fix that one." I said, "Okay, well, so we'll if anybody asks you, we we do have reason because it busted all the concrete down below and they've got to replace all of that, not just the the signs." Yeah. So, he did say they're running out of trailers though with those signal lights on there. All right.

Wonder how they'll do that because they're going to have to have that trailer sitting right on top of it where they're going to have we're going to go to a stop sign. Anyway, so just for everybody's information, we did get that and I know I had had some people asking about that. So I I passed it along and he said, "Well, that's what we're waiting on because all the concrete has to be pulled out and replaced about 14 foot deep." So Okay. Uh we'll move on to item two. Discuss or act upon rescheduling May 25th meeting since it's a holiday. Memorial Day. I propose we just move to the 26th. That's okay with all favor. Works for me. Thank you.

Yeah. So, I've talked to uh Mario and I've talked to Tommy. Uh what I'd like for us to do as council is have the free hot dog hamburger this year at the 4th. That way, there's something for our community to go to along with the chambers events that they're having. I know the last time that they uh the fire department and the police department did it, everybody absolutely loved it and have asked for it since then. Uh the water polo too, didn't we? Yeah. But unfortunately, these guys, I mean, they're just super busy. So, they can't really Well, I don't think they have the personnel to

this one. They don't have they can't do it. So, I think that we should step in, get volunteers. We all do it. That way, we really go big for 250 and make it fun for the city. Has anybody I mean I mentioned the last time has anybody talked to the Baptist men because they like to do stuff like that. They might not yet. And once you get Toms I'll get a hold of Boyd and his whole Yeah. golf cart gang. Make them I mean tell them this is a good time to say thank you. Get some volunteers out of that bunch. Yeah. The Baptist mean like I said they do the fishing derby but I don't know if they still doing that or not. So you got a they got a cooker that'll handle that. I I would say we pay though as far as the city. Yeah, we can and that's you know I just I talked about it and I was like well now is the time to do it. We still got a couple months to kind of get plan it. Yeah. And I'd be interested if you get with Jeff. He might can be like his his food service might can get better deals than just going to Sam's or maybe Yeah. We want to set a dollar amount or just whatever. I have I don't know how many how many people do do we think did they do hot dogs in the last several years? They did it. Y'all did hot dog hot dogs and hamburgers, right?

I think we did 800 hot dogs and 700 and you sold your Alex and we were out. We I think you'd have to put some type of limit limit on go. This is what we're doing. This all we got. When we did the amphitheater, I had John Deere and XIT and them all sponsored it. So, they paid for it when we did that one. But, I mean, in the grand scheme of things, it's not going to be a bunch of money and I don't mind. Do Do we want to have it down at the amphitheater or That's up to y'all. I don't care where we have it as long as we have it. It's a good

It's a good place to set up. Yar did that deal down there last year and you feed a bunch. But when they do it up most of the people are up there at the park though that little inlet like coliseum's on this side. Watermelon parks right here and then you have the road that goes down to the lake. There's like a little inlet. You could just set everything up right there so everything's kind of together. And does a beard have a big grill right there? No. I don't think so. They they've got all the pressure. I mean, the hot water cookers and stuff, but I don't think they got like that.

So, the Baptist men would be better. XT Peters has a really nice two-sided trigger real from them. It could already for you. It's on a trade. It's still so we just kind of if we want to do this. Yeah. Yeah. Let's let's say we do it and then go from there. Yeah. Yeah. Because I don't know who the Baptist men have that trailer or if it's one of them in in particular that has it. Talk to Kevin. we'll to the next item. Item four, discuss and act upon request from Delhart Cruisers to close the street for their annual car show. Uh, yes sir. This is just their annual car show. June 6th, they want to close the street from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from 2nd to 6th. That should the From what I understand, it's the normal every year. It's where they close. PD didn't have a problem with it. I personally did not have a problem with it. Um, be happy to answer any questions. It's been a really good event. Yeah. So, hopefully it won't rain. Oh, let's hope it does rain. Not on that day.
