Good afternoon and welcome to the city council close session meeting of Tuesday, February 17th. I now call the meeting to order. Madame clerk, would you please do the roll call? Uh, Mr. Mayor, the record will reflect that all council is present except for Council Member Reynolds. Okay. And now it's time for public comments. We have at least one public commenter in the chambers. Uh you have the floor. You get three minutes to talk about what's on the agenda. And give me a second. I'll get your mic on. There you go.
Yes. Hello everybody. Um we're very close, I think, to getting this whole thing settled. Um and so I appreciate you considering this. Um, I think we agreed on everything and then there was one last thing. Um, I did I have absolutely no desire to buy anything new in Costa Mesa or do any more development. I've lost so much money that there's there's zero incentive. In fact, what many may not know, I know that the mayor knows, um, before all this started, I tried to knock down that building at 440 Fair and I tried to build low-income housing there. And while the city council or the planning commission first said 50, go for it. When it came time to actually do it, after I spent $200,000, believe it or not, the neighbors all came out in droves saying they don't want any new development. It was shocking. like 50 people. And so we said, "Okay." And then next thing you know, the next day the measure Y came into effect and it made it almost impossible. But I sold that building. Um I evicted all the tenants. I did everything. I sold the building. Um and still the city council was coming after me. And even 3 years after I sold the building, then we come to Wallace. And Wallace was a homeless shelter with 17 units in it for 20 years before I bought it. And all I did was try to legalize it with some of the new state laws. But again, the receiver came in and only wanted seven units. So that's the dilemma. I would have sold that building three years ago and and moved on, but the receiver was involved and is involved. And since that time, that property is a disaster. So, if it was a nuisance when I owned it or I controlled it, it's certainly a
nuisance now. But the reason for the slight new uh item in the settlement is because in a conversation with my daughter, she may one day, she's 19 now, she may one day want to buy a house in Costa Mesa. And if she does, with the current pricing, there will be no way for her to afford it. And I may have to get on a loan. I may have to do a consignment. So that's why I requested the 5 years uh moratorum on me being able to buy something in Costa Mesa. I'd be happy to limit it to a residential home for my daughter if you want, but I don't think she should be part of my my problem. And so I'd like you to consider it, but of course it's your decision. Um but then you'll hopefully this will be the last time you hear from me. Um so thank you for your considerations.
Thank you, sir. Anybody else on Zoom?
