We will call the meeting the regular meeting for the planning and zoning commission on May 6th of 2026 to order. Can we start with roll call, please? Vice Chair Koshel

We will start with our pledge of allegiance led by Commissioner Glet. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Thank you. All right. Normally on our agenda here, we would have a call for any unscheduled public appearances. Given that we have no one in the audience tonight, we will move forward um actually to um our item number five, election of officers under our action agenda. We're going to go ahead and move that to ahead of our consent agenda. Um so with that um we will go ahead and accept nominations either um for um another commissioner or you can certainly self-nominate as well um for the position of starting with chair for the planning and zoning commission.

Vice chair. Yes. I would like to nominate Sher Kosal as the chair of the committee. Thank you. I second much. Oh, thank you. Okay. Are there any other um commissioners who would like to nominate another candidate for chair of the commission? So, vice chair, um it wasn't I don't think it was quite worded as a motion. So, okay, we could just redo it. I would like to make a motion. Okay. Yeah, that's fine. Oh, thank you for catching. Yeah. And if you want to do a separate one for vice chair or if you want to wrap two of them into one, either way is fine with me. Okay. So if it's a motion to nominate her,

well, it shouldn't be boarded that. I would I would move to appoint Vice, you know, Sher Kosha as chair of the commission. Something like that. Well, that's that doesn't allow for voting in that format. Well, I I I moved if there's more than two people nominated. Yes, exactly. If there are others, then we've got to decide. Well, okay. If if there are other nominations, we will still we could still vote on a motion that is made for the one person. If it passes, then we won't go on to the other. I've never done vote motions for nominations before it. Okay, that doesn't feel weird. No, that's how we normally do it, but

Okay. Well, then I make a motion to nominate or propose U Sher Koshell as chair of our commission. Second. Thank you. So then I need to call if there's any other nominations. Um I think we vote once it's been seconded. I think we have a vote on that. Okay. If it doesn't pass, then I guess we do another nomination, another motion. Okay. That's how I would handle it. Okay. And then I don't vote. Correct. Correct. Okay. So I will abstain. Um all in favor of nominating me for chair say I. I I I opposed.

Okay. Thank you. Motion passes. So if it didn't pass, then we would call for other. Okay. Okay. Great. My recommendation. So thank you. You're in charge. I've never done it. So, um, next up would be nominations for vice chair. So, we'll open the floor for nominations of vice chair. Charlotte, I nominate Tom Bilston for vice chair. Second and Ryan. So, now we're voting on that. Well,

or I'm calling if there's any other nominations. Yeah, I would I just like the word move or motion just to be clear that it is a motion. I motion to nominate Tom Bill for vice chair. Second. Now I'm calling for a vote. Okay. Um All right. So all in favor of the motion to appoint Mr. Billstein as the vice chair of the planning commission say I I I. All opposed or any opposed?

We reviewed a majority of this consent agenda at our previous study session. Um there were no comments on the meeting minutes. The Arizona Commerce Center number two is being continued. Doson residents has been um pulled from their request for historic landmark designation and we were we received the staff report on the entertainment use permit for the Mexico restaurant. Um so is there a motion for the consent agenda

before uh chair before we go for a motion? Um we're I think together we're all trying to figure out how we run this meeting without our former chair who's pretty good at doing everything. But he would typically um state that you know like you said we have we had a discussion of this at the at the um study session. Is there anyone from the audience that would like to speak on any of the items on the consent agenda just to make sure that we do open it up to the public. Okay. Um so yeah, I just want to make sure we get in the habit of of making that statement here. Say it. Can you say it again? Um, is there anybody uh from the public who would like to speak on any of the items on the consent agenda? Okay. And obviously there's nobody here.

Well, I I would just like to say and I know um Chair Hume, former Chair Hume is not here, but um he was a longstanding um member on this commission and spent a lot of time and energy. And so I would just like to publicly thank him for um all of his service to our city, both on commission and other various capacities over the years. So hopefully I'll get to see him again and tell him in person, but um I just appreciate his leadership and guidance um over the course of time. So we look forward to move moving forward from here. Um and it looks like our next meeting will be on June 3 um at 5:30 in these chambers. So until then, we will adjourn. Everyone have a great Memorial Day and a wonderful May. Thank you.
