Policy Matters for Committee
- Staffing/hiring update - Another resignation 6/23 - Some snags in pre-hire screening has led to minor delay. Still intending to start 3 in July. - Continuing to interview with the intent to start 2 additional in September (once approved)
Emergency Communications System
Upgraded pre-testing Criticall software. Provides opportunity to have applicants test remotely. Plan to explore sending all applicants this test to streamline the hiring process.
Back-up Center
Two working radio laptops, two phone laptops, and 4 CAD laptops set up AFD. Conducting testing bi-weekly.
Lloyd Hoskins (Assigned Counsel) – No updates
Dr. Adam Duckett (Coroner) – No updates
Brittany Antonacci (District Attorney) – No updates
Riley Shurtleff (Emergency Services) – No updates
Tyrone Thomas (Probation) –
- Attended the COPA Conference last week, learned a lot and picked up some new leadership techniques which I will be trying at my next Staff Meeting. - DCJS and OPCA sent a representative down who did in-service training for us on Treatment Courts. - New hire started last week, and he is working out really well. - We had on-site review visit from DCJS on GIVE and STRIVE last week and that went very well, no concerns. - OPCA IID Audit went well, no real concerns.
Brian Schenck (Sheriff) –
- At the time of this report, we are holding 115 incarcerated individuals in the jail. We have 15 Federal and 3 local board-ins. We also have 9 NY State Parolees detained for new charges and 3 Parolees detained for a violation of parole. - Areas of the concrete sidewalk surrounding the Public Safety Building have deteriorated to the point that it is becoming a concern. The sidewalks are utilized by staff and the public. - In May Patrol Deputies handled 1,882 calls for service, bringing the total call volume for 2026 through the end of May to 9,279 calls. This is an increase over the same period in 2025 where Deputies handled 1,763 calls in May and 8,228 calls through the end of May for the year. - We are approaching 23,000 followers on our agency Facebook page. We use this social media platform, as well as Instagram, to highlight the work we do, recruit, share arrest information, and engage with the public.
