I got grief for wearing my brown cowboy boots with my khaki pants a few weeks back, so I probably should be judged. My cousin Josh RZ and he said it was not working. Brown with brown. Yeah. And I have this Wyoming.

We have a pretty brief pre-media as well. It wasn't running too fast, but we do have the agenda review open. If anybody had any questions about this agenda or anything coming up in the next week or so.

It's around Poplar Street. read the packet correctly, it sounded like the project grew from like 885,000 to over 2 million.

This was one that was started back in 2022 and it's a wide out project and so when the project was originally estimated, the estimate came in at that 836,000.

It was originally bid once and the numbers were EXCEEDINGLY HIGH, NOT ONLY FOR THE INFRASTRUCTURE ASPECTS, THE CITY SIDE, BUT THE YDOT PORTIONS AS WELL. YDOT WENT BACK OUT TO BID, AND THEY CAME IN LOWER BY SPLITTING IT INTO TWO WORKING SEASONS. OUR NUMBERS ALSO CAME DOWN. BUT ANOTHER ASPECT OF THIS IS INFLATION AND THE CONTRACTORS THAT TYPICALLY DO WORK ON WIDOW PROJECTS ARE ROAD CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS AND NOT UTILITY CONTRACTORS. AND SO WHEN THOSE ROAD CONTRACTORS ARE DOING UTILITY WORK, THEY PUT IN HIGHER NUMBERS BECAUSE IT'S NOT THEIR BREAD AND BUTTER AND THEIR AREA OF EXPERTISE. SO I THINK THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THIS HIGHER

Then we were finding funds from several different sources. Number 17 I think and then. Some other other spots.

Yes. We had. projects left over from um one cent seven monies left over from 117 when this was originally built and then we have uh water and sewer funds uh as well contributing to this i also made note of that pad

And I'm pulling up just right now Federal Highway Administration data shows construction costs have risen 70% since 2020. So it's kind of what I was made a note because it was significant to me but unsurprising at this point.

When we first started talking about it, it was like 400,000.

When we were this was years ago, my first 750 and then 750.

Alrighty. Oh boy, I did on some of the vehicle purchases. I mean. So it appeared I mean the bids were lower. But due to spec and And I didn't know what kind of guidelines some of that we use. Especially the one on the excursion. Can't imagine that solid waste. for errands and training and stuff that. And they had a Ford Taurus before. Just wonder what kind of guidelines we actually use. And some of that.

Mayor and counselor, I can tell you and I I will need to double check this morning, but if I remember correctly from budget they were wanting to upsize this vehicle from the smaller passenger car so that they could travel together to trainings like maybe two. solid waste training in Cheyenne or something of that nature. And you're referring to this one that's the $70,097. Yeah, just wanted to make sure. So I can clarify that in the morning, but I'll tell you when I look at fleet requests, I'm always pretty keenly interested, particularly if we're going to go from a small passenger car to a $70,000 SUV and why, and is there a reasonable purpose for that? I can follow up tomorrow and just refresh my memory, but I think it's an important question.

so fleet questions is you know i would definitely consider it one of the things i get asked about most often people wondering why we you know police department why are we going with trucks over uh stands or why are we going with crossovers over smaller cars and so um it would be helpful to get more of that context like i don't know if we need to formalize it in any way but sometimes it's as simple as you know for the police department i know sometimes manufacturers simply do not um offer certain vehicles up to police spec and so i don't know if we can get just a line or two kind of giving that context when we do have those things come in front of us just like hey we're going with trucks this is why like that would be super helpful to help me um because i know that's you know i get a lot of inquiry about it and i never usually have good answers other than you know i can explain why we replace vehicles on the timeline that we do but not necessarily why we're going with a truck over a car or something like that it would be helpful

i think that's something we can do also with the team and worrying about it questions okay let's take a 15-minute break did the chief have some context for god's sakes come on come on i can just give you some wave tops

Vice Mayor for the vehicles. If you haven't noticed, we have some large humans and if you watch them get in and out of a car with all the gear they have on, sometimes that stepping up from a very low space on a sedan to even a utility vehicle up to a truck just saves them wear and tear on their body. It also saves wear and tear on the equipment getting out of the vehicle. Also, the amount of vehicle that the officers carry in those vehicles to take home. have you take up that back capacity and you have a half cage dealing with the added subject it's difficult to get somebody in there and wrangle men where the trucks have that option big room for our larger officers better use equipment space for our evidence technicians who carry cameras scene markers Bring that stuff to this, but I can certainly provide more detail as well.
