Since you've been so inclined to time, would you mind leading us in the pledge of allegiance? Yes. Everyone stand ready to begin. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you, Mr. Wel. Appreciate you. Cler, can we get a roll call vote? Mayor Pro Tim Castillo here. Council member Stber here. Council member Terry here. Council member Wely here. Mayor Smith, I'm here. Mayor, you have a quorum. Thank you so much. We have one item. Do we have any public comments on this one item? Mayor, we do not.
Perfect. I'm going to hand it over to the Mr. City Manager. Our one item for the evening adoption and resolution electing for the city to be the subject of the public employee medical and hospital care act. It is all yours.
Uh mayor, mayor prom and council, I thank you very much for being here on this special meeting. Uh this was a requirement by Kalpers. We've been working with them over the last several months to push forward our uh benefits for the oncoming police department. This uh resolution was required first to get approval from them because our public safety uh uh employees do not participate in Kalpers for the retirement. They had considered backing off of being able to offer this. They did uh decide to move forward. So, this is a housekeeping item that we need to adopt to be able to offer the same uh health and welfare benefits that we offer for all other employees, including fire uh through uh um PERS. And this is because of the public employees medical and hospital care act also called PEMPA. With uh vote and approval of this, we will be able to offer those benefits. The reason for the special meeting is it had to be to Kalpers by uh before the 10th of May and uh unfortunately our meeting is on the 13th. So there was no way to do this without a special meeting. So I very much appreciate the council doing this.
Of course. Do my colleagues have any questions on this item hearing? None. Do we have any public comments? Can I please hold the motion? Someone move. Cool. Council member Welty, are you going to second it? Yes, I'll second. You have a first and a second. Madam Clerk, can we do a roll call vote? Mayor Poten Castillo. Council member Siver. Hi. Council member Terry. I. Council member Welty. I may I. Motion passes. Let the record reflect the adjournment at 402. Wins record.
