City Council - Regular Meeting

believe our meeting time has arrived. I'll call this June 2nd, 2026 meeting of the Andalusia City Council to order and ask Councilman Powell if he'll lead us in the prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Join me as we pray. Almighty God, we come to you asking your blessing upon our town, upon our citizens, and upon those who visit. Father, I pray for wisdom for we as the leaders of our city. I pray that you would help us to make wise decisions, give us insight into what we can do to improve the quality of life for our citizens. I pray now that you would watch over us and care for us. In Jesus' name, amen. Attention. Salute. Pledge. I pledge allegiance.

Okay, I want to welcome those here with us tonight. We have a very, very short agenda. I guess we had an extra long one in our last meeting, but we have not a lot to do tonight. First item of business, or actually only action business, is to approve the minutes of our meeting of May the 19th, 2026, with one correction that we noted in our workshop. So with that correction to be put into the final assembly of the minutes, do we have a motion and a second to approve the minutes of our May 19, 2026 meeting?

Mayor, I make a motion that we approve the minutes as corrected of the May 19, 2026 meeting.

All right, I have a motion by Mr. Mount. Do we have a second?

second by Mr. Nix any further discussion questions or comments concerning those minutes all in favor of approval with the with one correction please indicate by raising your right hand saying aye aye any opposed the same sign and they are approved with the correction uh we do have one piece of uh business that i will ask us to act on tonight that was not on the agenda but i think we uh No one would object to this. The playing field cover of the field at Miracle League Park here at Johnson Park needs to be replaced. That field cover is about 20 years old and is in shape. It needs to be replaced. We have a cost of that assigned through one of these companies that that the state already has approved we can buy from that organization without going out for bid unless we can get a lower price on the state bid list. And that amount of money is about $150,000. The good news is that I have already secured a donation to pay for the entire cost of that park through Gary Smith, the former CEO of PowerSouth, have already sent us a check for a $160,000 donation to do this work. So we have the money in place. We need to go ahead and get the work done so it'll be prepared for the next season when the Miracle League starts up. We won't have it all torn up, putting new cover on it. So I would suggest to you that Y'all would authorize us to move forward with securing and installing the new cover for the Miracle League Park, paid for by the money donated, thankfully, by PowerSouth Energy Cooperative.

Mr. Mayor, I move that we accept the source oil bid to replace the turf at the Miracle League Field.

Okay. We have a motion by Mr. Powell. Do we have a second? Mr. Mayor, I will second that. All right, second by Mr. Boswell. Any further discussion, questions, or comments? All in favor of the motion, please indicate by saying aye. Aye. Any opposed, no. And the ayes have it. Okay, that's all of the business we have with one exception. We're going to reschedule our second meeting this month for Wednesday, June 1st. The 17th, because on the 16th are the runoff elections for the elections that are coming up for the November party nominating elections. And Mr. Powell is the clerk of that, the folks who are seeing about the election. And he will be tied up all day on the day that we would meet, which would be the 16th. on Tuesday of that week, he is tied up with the election and has asked that we reset the meeting for Wednesday, that following Wednesday on the 17th. And we're gonna do that at 12 o'clock here at City Hall. And does anyone on the council object to that? Okay, that'll be set. All right, is there anything else to come before the council tonight? All right, hearing nothing, we'll stand adjourned.
