“Thanks so much for the report. Elected officials had a briefing at UNC Charlotte this past week, and there was a lot of talk about all of the money put into research to upgrade the energy grid and things of that nature. So one of my questions is, I wonder how closely or do we work closely with UNC Charlotte? Do we leverage that research in the decisions that are being made since they're taking in a lot of tax dollars that seemingly would go to improve our grid and energy resources and how we reuse those. So that's my first question. How closely do we work with them and how do we leverage that…”

“All right. Thank you for that. And I guess my other question is just trying to understand, in addressing the scorecard and how we – do this and whether this is a cost-saving move. Why do we adjust the goal rather than setting a goal, letting it play out, and then seeing what the repercussions is, if that makes sense? It's like we're trying to hit a moving target and we're adjusting the goal to fit expectations rather than Are we adjusting the goal to fit expectations or to fit resources so that we can fix what we need?”

“Thanks so much, Mr. Chairman. Thanks, Michael. It was an excellent presentation, and I love... The actual magnitude of trying to pull all of that together in-house is monumental, and then trying to incorporate it with two other governing entities, I can't even fathom. I can't imagine. To bring it down to the granular level of where we are, and given what you're asking in the context of what you're asking, you're not asking for revisions or anything like that, I want to understand Because I love the Quality of Life Explorer. I think I've said many times I used to use it all the time. Now it's…”

“I want to say thank you. I'm just amazed at your department, just how the skill and the level of talent in Mecklenburg County, it is really impressive. A lot of my questions were already answered through your presentation as you went through. Thank you very much for that. And it's very detailed and it's easily readable. My question is more so geared towards Kind of piggybacking on what Commissioner Powell was talking about. Unless there is something egregiously violated, the county really does not have any wherewithal to say, no, this can't be built or this can't go forward. And my mind goes…”

“I want to take this opportunity. I went to an amazing conference, and I wanted to tell the community about that, the Global Africa Conference. But I feel a responsibility to do the same as my colleagues, to make it clear that I am a no emphatically. And I will tell you, there has not been one time when I have teetered in that decision, but there was... And I usually don't respond to emails directly. If other colleagues have responded or whatever, I'll just take it under consideration. But there was one particular email where an individual specifically said, please change your vote to yes…”

“Thank you both very much for the report. When I went to the conference last week for the North Carolina County Commissioners, they gave a report of the jail health care costs. And we actually did really, really good in Mecklenburg County. We only came in about 2% over our projected budget. So you're doing an excellent job with care there. I just have some questions and I will, I will, I am in support of, of, of the motion. Um, the degree of violent crime offense, are we housing all of them? Um, in, I guess as right now we are because there's only one facility. Is there, um, is there an…”

“Do you have like a... like a one-sheeter that can explain and build the case for the programs, the many programs that you have, and I know that you give presentation yearly, but I was curious to know what percentage of those who go in, go through one of your programs, whether it's the barber or whatever, what percentage of those people actually stay and are contributing to the community without recidivism? You know, what's your recidivism rate for those that go through the program versus those who don't?”

“Thanks so much. And for all you do for us who don't enjoy taxes the way you guys do, like Michelle. But it was an interesting conversation when we went to the North Carolina, the conference that we had for all county commissioners. And tax, of course, revaluation was a hot topic. I'm interested in the community understanding better what reevaluation is, and I'm happy to see the book and things of that nature. Is there an appetite, or do we have the capacity to schedule, and maybe you're not the right person to ask this, maybe it's the county manager, a series of educational events and town…”

“City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Joint Proclamation, whereas August 26, 2026, marks the 106th anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution and is observed annually as Women's Equality Day, and whereas this milestone while historic, did not guarantee equal access to the ballot for all women, particularly black women, indigenous women, and women of color, many of whom continued to face discriminatory barriers until the passage and enforcement of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and beyond. And whereas the long struggle for suffrage and equality began with the…”

So lead the way I'm so anxious to learn all that I can. Congratulations. And I, what, when I talk about, you know, what we do, and then I get to say that my colleague and a colleague that I have leads the nation. in what all counties are supposed to do, that makes me tremendously proud. So very appreciative and congratulations.”

“Thank you both very much for your presentations. It was very comprehensive, especially considering all of the details in the 600 pages. I guess my question is because we are quite frankly we're at a disadvantage in this county because we are predominantly one political party and it's our state legislature is basically controlled by another. Is there an appetite, you believe, or is there already established a government entity that or a committee that is established to specifically address opposing or alternative policies that can be implemented and strategies for addressing what may come? And…”

“Within the county or the state. Is there, I mean, because now we can leverage our president. I think that we should leverage our president of counties. And so I want to see a committee that and maybe that motion can be made if there isn't one, of a body that is addressing specifically alternative policies that can be triggered or that we will, you know, I don't like just kind of like being at the whim of whatever it is that they decide to pass or whatever triggers happen if if we achieve this error rate, then whatever. So I want something that kind of puts us ahead of the game, a strategy.”
