“Is there a reason why we're so worried about square footage when we already have limitations on setback and height, which by virtue of that, we're limiting where people, either it fits in their space or it doesn't. Is there a reason why we would go that extra mile and limit the square? I don't care if it meets all those other criteria.”

“It seems to me we can't control things like finishes. Can't say you have to have a laminate countertop in instead of granite. The ground's already paid for in this scenario. So what we're putting in really is in what we're building. So I understand it, but Councilmember Wharton and I have had KIND OF DEEP THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS. I DON'T SEE THIS AS THE VEHICLE TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE HOUSING. I SEE THIS AS CREATING THE CONDITIONS RIGHT FOR PEOPLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT AND CREATE AFFORDABILITY WITHIN THE CITY. THERE IS A LOT OF NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. THERE'S A LOT OF…”

“And I want to amplify. I spoke with Councilmember Wharton. I am always fine with involving more, but these two gentlemen came to a Valentine's Day event for my district at Señor Pollo. Like, they were in the most... like, nascent experience in my neighborhood. So if we just do the things that we've always done, we're going to get the feedback that we've always gotten. And it's going to be from a predictable demographic that cares about this, that understands the importance about this. So I would like something forward-looking. I would like an easy response QR code, like if we're going to do a…”

“In speaking earlier with Council Member Wharton, we had identified that the two primary examples that we keep using, Portland and Durham, they each had supplemental policies around them that bolstered them. In Portland, it was their aggressive ability to do rent controls and use policy for that kind of thing. And then in Durham, it was a $95 million bond for affordable housing. have we been able to control for the variable do we have reasonable confidence that should we step into this and take this risk that this policy in and of itself will be enough to set the table or do you have other…”

“Are we going to hear from the developer, too, or just us?”

“No, mostly just comments. I had the chance to speak with this developer. Planning told us this conforms with what we expect to happen, and the developer assured me not only are they asking for nothing that varies from the M1A zone that was innovated for M1A, the place out there. There's no riparian considerations because it's far enough away from there. So we don't have that element of concern. And when I spoke with the developer, the developer was able to tell me the name of not only the people from whom they bought the house, which was impressive, but then also the neighbors across the way…”

“And it was explicitly asked, and we can let the developer speak to it, but this is a concession that the developer is willing to give us.”

“Yeah, I'm not trying to exercise our power. I'm saying we have a partner here who is doing in this space things that are not just being compelled, but this is someone who gives every appearance at this point to be honoring the spirit and the letter of our law.”

“It's cute that you think that they would let you do that anyway.”

“Is there a way, if someone's with us longer term, they're going to be intercepting with other entities across this? I mean, the most basic one feels like the court system at the very least. Is there a way that we are coordinating, especially with other state agencies, but also with other county and publicly funded agencies to make sure that the case management that we're offering is not only not redundant, but is the most appropriate out of all that's available to that person?”

“so then we one of our primary goals here is making sure that the judicial branch of the city has what it needs to keep up and so one of the lda requests was that they need social workers and so if you're seeing these people i'm assuming lda is is that it's a likely collaborator on the list of people who are on this top 50 and so are we able to mitigate EXPENSES ELSEWHERE IN THE CITY EXPENSES ELSEWHERE IN THE CITY EXPENSES ELSEWHERE IN THE CITY BUDGET. BUDGET. BUDGET. I'M NOT LOOKING TO SHORT CHANGE. I'M NOT LOOKING TO SHORT CHANGE. I'M NOT LOOKING TO SHORT CHANGE. I WAS A CASE MANAGER,…”

“I know when they go to the hospital, there are HIPAA protections that make sharing data more difficult. And I'm a heavy advocate for people who are in crisis or need our help should not have their dignity compromised. So I wouldn't want anything that puts pictures of people out there or anything. BUT ARE THERE OTHER BARRIERS TO, IS IT A SYSTEMIC ISSUE JUST WITH BECAUSE OF THE SILOED NATURE IN WHICH THESE THINGS KIND OF POPPED UP THAT WE DON'T HAVE A WAY TO SHARE DATA OR ARE THERE OTHER BARRIERS TO US BEING ABLE TO SHARE DATA FIRST WITHIN THE CITY AND THEN WITH OTHER AGENCIES OUTSIDE OF US?”
