“I believe the county attorney's office is going to be that for us because again it could be that we're going to need very specific facts around any specific funding request. I'm just cautioning all of us that we have discretionary funds we also give out so I would I would just say I would say govern yourselves accordingly, be conservative, always check with the county attorney's office. Always, always. They will be the guide to this because I could not agree with you more, Commissioner Gilbert. This is the most sweeping legislation I believe ever seen passed by the legislature, but it has…”

“I know this will be lots and lots of discussion around this when the county attorneys bring it back. I just thought it was important to tell, obviously, the Economic Impact Committee that we are now going to be faced with the consequences of this bill. And I wanted to just do a very high level discussion. That's why I made sure to read it into the record so that everyone is now aware that come January 1st, 2027, The world, as we saw it before, has dramatically been revised by this bill. And so I want to thank the county attorney's office for their hard work. I, for one, have read the bill…”

“If we would all bow our heads, please stand and bow our heads. Heavenly Father, we thank you for the day that you've given us, for the privilege of serving on the County Commission. We ask that today we channel your goodness through the agenda items that are before us as we do the service of your people and our constituents in Miami-Dade County. We ask this in your name. Amen. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

“Thank you. Thank you, Madam Chair. So I just want to say to the two organizations of which I've had the absolute pleasure of having worked with for the last four years when I was a state legislator, thank you for the work you do. I'm excited to continue my support of you now as a county commissioner. And so I know firsthand how important the work is that you do, and often it is not only tireless but thankless. And we want you to know that with these proclamations, we see you, we hear you, and we thank you.”

“Thank you, Mr. Chair. I was unaware that the fires were actually taking place now, and I want to thank, obviously, our firefighters for their good work. I just would ask that we be kept abreast. I mean, I know it isn't impacting my particular district, but it's impacting many of our residents in Miami-Dade County who could be on the line of being unsafe. Again, thank you for your hard work. And my thoughts and prayers are with not only those that might be impacted, but with our firefighters and first responders. Thank you.”

“Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Thank you so much for the presentation. I had a couple questions. First, on the women's health, maternal mortality, and chronic illnesses. Do we have data by race and ethnicity?”

“May I? Mr. Chairman, thank you. So I saw that because I recognized you had a baseline. And in order for me to know whether these mortality incidences were increasing or decreasing by race or ethnicity, it's always important because that's where you know where you might need to provide more services. So I'm grateful that you're going to try to disaggregate the data because I think it's important that we do so. And my other question, if I may, Mr. Chairman. so i have been working with human trafficking for the last 15 years and as a state legislator i passed actual human trafficking legislation…”

“And maybe what we can do is try to coordinate our efforts with law enforcement who do know where they're making arrests and what industries they are. Because funny that we didn't realize there was a loophole in the state statutes related to the operation and regulation of massage parlors and massage centers. So I think it's important because we were able to make such a dent in human trafficking in that particular industry, but My other colleagues in the House said, well, there's nail salons. There's a lot of places where we're seeing them. And I think it might be important for us in the next…”

“Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I pulled the item just so that I could get some clarification. So I noted that there were five vendors that will be providing elderly meal services. District 5 has one of the densest concentrations of low-income Spanish-speaking seniors in the county. And I was just curious if I could get a list of the vendors who they are serving, which seniors they're serving in District 5.”

“I didn't want the vendors as much as I wanted to know where are the meals going. So like for instance, I have senior buildings and in some cases they have had their senior meals cut. So I'm actually taking meals as often as I can to them because there's real food insecurity in our elderly population. And so I'm trying to figure out where these vendors will be serving my seniors in district.”

“It's the list lengthy. It's a bit lengthy. Okay, then we can wait till afterwards if they can just provide me a list that will be helpful because then I can go into the community and let them know that meals are being you know provided by this particular item. So thank you so much.”
