“I want to invite everyone to the Elko Community Concert Series. The first concert will be a week from tomorrow at the Elko High School Auditorium. And the first concert will be October 15th, Piano Men. It's a six-piece live band, two pianos. It'll basically be a rock concert with pianos, with Billy Joel and Elton John classics. So hope everybody can come. The ticket prices are very low. Thanks to our many sponsors. The purpose of this concert series is to bring the arts and culture to Elko so you don't have to travel out of town. And it's especially affordable now with gas prices so high. So…”

“A proclamation declaring October 4th through 10th, 2026 is National 4-H Week in Elko County. Whereas this year's National 4-H Week theme, Beyond Ready, reminds us that 4-H is building a ready generation in a world of change and equips young people with skills for the future while meeting them where they are today. Whereas 4-H is America's largest youth development organization, supporting 6 million youth across the country, And whereas 4-H programs are delivered by the Cooperative Extension System, a community of more than 100 public land-grant colleges and universities across the nation that…”

“I have a question. Of the 17 counties in Nevada, how many have a business license for the county? Do we know that?”
Board of Commissioners · Oct 7, 2026

“I'd be in favor of researching it just to get a memo in the county to know what this would look like, what our options are. If there is a business license for the county, It would be great if it could be integrated with the city so that if somebody's in the city, they just have to get one license and just a portion goes to the county, a portion goes to the city, rather than have a business have to go make two stops.”

“whatever yeah i guess the business license is predicated on where the the principal place of the business is where the office is okay but let's say they have an office in the county but they're doing business in the city do they still have to have a business license they do okay um so that's what well they're in the post dude whether or not they do that's what i'm saying is make it very clearly defined there people don't have to have two licenses they could have one that's”

“Right. I think liquor might be a little more regulated. But basically, like going to what Rex is saying, we don't want to increase the burden on businesses.”

“I'm in favor of this for a couple reasons. Number one, while it doesn't provide a complete alternate access to Spring Creek, it does relieve the bottleneck at 12th and Lamoille, which is too much of a constriction, as we've seen with emergencies. This will also open up more land for the city of Elko, which will benefit the county in turn. And and also the county's in good financial condition at this time with the increase in the PILT payments that I'd be in favor of putting that money toward this project and supporting the city. And I really commend you for stepping up and taking on this…”

“I had that same question of were there other bids solicited and can it be fixed? Because I have seen obsolete rooftop systems limp along for many years with spare parts. Of course, this is something that needs to be operable or their backup systems. We just need more information.”

“Yeah, Amanda pulled up the resolution from 2024 when that tax was approved, and it says that the Elko County School District will adhere to the year 24 capital improvement plan, which was submitted to the county commission that we reviewed at that time. And that in one year from that time, the school district will provide a full accounting of how the ad valorem tax revenue has been expended. And the county commissioners will review and adjust the dedicated ad valorem tax rate as necessary. So that was also my understanding is that they had a plan they brought and presented. And then they were…”

“I went onto the website, entered my address, and it recognizes that there's going to be construction in the area. but it only gives me options to sign up for a data plan or an internet plan. I don't see an option for the drop. So maybe check that because it only gives me three options for one plan with seven devices, seven plus devices or the one gig plan.”

“My thoughts, I'd rather see these horses grazing than in a holding pen. And if they can be put to work, just like a goat herd or a cattle herd, it's a step in the right direction. So I would be supportive of this if the herds are sterile and they're not breeding and the herds that are in the holding pens or that are gathered are released in Oregon to graze.”
Board of Commissioners · Sep 16, 2026

“Yeah, and I support that. And that's even better than taking them out of the holding pens. But if there's sufficient to take them out of the holding pens too, out of Elko County or wherever, they could go straight from the gathers to Oregon or wherever there's space, wherever the other states would be. would welcome them or, or allow it. Um, uh, but yeah, I, I, I think this is a step in the right direction because right now I am against holding horses. The, the wild horse and burrow act actually requires the excess horses, horses be slaughtered and the law is not being followed. and uh even…”

“I agree. Amanda is a great asset to the County. Great leader. As, as John said, um, I've been very impressed with her decision-making province solving skills, her leadership, the way she handles everyone, um, everyone from us to difficult citizens to, um, problems in the department, she's able to bring everybody together. I think that's a great, great attribute that she can build consensus and cohesion and keep everybody moving in the same direction. So it's just my last four years have just been amazing because of you, Amanda, and I hope that you'll continue for many more years. So I'm…”

“Hey, it looks like another year. That's right. As the self-appointed arts and culture commissioner, I want to invite you all to the Elko Community Concert Association, 81st year in Nevada. Elko County has one of the, probably the oldest community concert associations in the state of Nevada. And the reason is we're so rural that We're not on the tour for most performers because we're a small community and we're very far from everywhere else. So we have to bring them here. And this nonprofit, Elko Community Founders Association, does that and has done it for 84. This is the 81st year. So I…”
